Samsung is never in much of a rush when it comes time to update software and it has been no different as the Korean company updates the Galaxy S2 to Android Jelly Bean 4.1. The roll out is happening, slowly moving from region to region, and we reported recently that North America is currently experiencing Jelly Bean updates for the S2 (minus Verizon of course).
The Korean S2, the TI OMAP 4430-powered GT-I9100G model has also had the Jelly Bean update in recent weeks, but we want to turn our focus back to North America, where owners of a Samsung Galaxy S2 from carrier Rogers are in for a nice surprise.
Currently the only S2 to get the Jelly Bean update in Canada has been the GT-I9100M from Bell Canada, but now Rogers is in line for some Jelly Bean action. If you head to the Rogers website then you will probably be disappointed as the site still says that the Jelly Bean Galaxy S2 update is due for a late February release on the carrier.
However, we have been given strong reports that the update is now live meaning customers of Rogers can now update their Galaxy S2 LTE to Android Jelly Bean 4.1. Rogers users can now download the update that seems to bears the software version I727RUXUMA7, but the trick it that the update is not available through Rogers.
Instead it is only downloadable through Samsung’s own KIES software, which also explains why no notifications have been received on handsets. Hook up your device to your computer and take a look in KIES to locate Jelly Bean 4.1.
So as the Samsung Galaxy S2 Jelly Bean update continues we will keep a watchful eye to see where it turns up next and if it is hidden away on KIES like the Rogers update.
