The Galaxy S4 Active may not have been the most bought device in the world, but it definitely caters to a certain niche audience that likes TouchWiz and rock climbing. It was made for people who like to go places with their smartphone and explore the world, without having to buy a special protective case.
Samsung is building a mini version of this to give users the full protection experience in a smaller and possibly cheaper package. Reports say Samsung will fit the Galaxy S4 Active Mini with less enticing specs, with a dual-core 1.2GHz CPU, 1GB of RAM, 8/16GB of internal storage, 5MP rear shooter and 4.65-inch 800 x 480 display.
Not the most impressive specs list, but the Galaxy S4 Active Mini does come with IP67 dust and water resistance. This is a move against the Sony Xperia Z1 Mini that was just released a few weeks ago, a smaller and rather impressive smartphone that also comes with a dust and water resistant design.
We cannot really see who this is for, perhaps Samsung has a good market in the cheap zone and this could be an ideal purchase for someone who only cares about keeping their phone safe from scrapes and breaks.
Samsung has faced controversy in the past on the Galaxy S4 Active, mainly to do with the advertisement of a water resistant phone. The company got hit when users were complaining about not getting a refund after their phone broke in water, despite Samsung promoting this feature.
