The rugged variant of Samsung’s flagship smartphone is arriving on AT&T on June 21st. The U.S. carrier is offering it for $199.99 on a two-year contract. Pre-orders started on June 14th for the Urban Gray and Dive Blue color variants, but a red variant seems a bit far off.
While other carriers are focusing on the regular Galaxy S4, AT&T is the first U.S. carrier to give thought to the Galaxy S4 Active. The device has more or less the same features as the Galaxy S4, but has a more durable build. Its most-hyped features are its dust and water resistance. It has both IP67 and SAFE (Samsung for Enterprise) certifications.
It features a metal back, a 5-inch full HD touch-sensitive Gorilla Glass display, 1.9GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor chip, 2GB RAM, 8MP rear camera, 2MP front camera, 16GB internal storage, and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface. It will be 4G LTE capable.
The 8MP camera is slightly downgraded from the regular version. However, the S4 Active will feature most of the high-end Galaxy S4 features, such as Air View, Aqua Mode, Drama Shot, Story Album and Air Gesture. The Eraser Shot allows you to get rid of unnecessary distractions in your pictures. The IR sensor empowers the device to work as a remote control. Improved low-light performance and multiple custom-shooting modes are among other noteworthy features.
The Galaxy S4 Active is slightly taller, broader and thicker than the regular model. It is ideal for those who are used to rough-handle their phones and for working environments that make the phone susceptible to accidental drops, dust-accumulation, etc.
Samsung has been unveiling several Galaxy S4 variants in quick succession. The S4 Mini, S4 Zoom and S4 Active have been in rumors for quite some time. Fans are awaiting the Galaxy S4 Intel variant this year.
