London was chosen for the launch of the Galaxy S3 last May, however, the launch of its successor, the Galaxy S4 will take place in the United States. The company reasons that if they launch the phone in the US it will gain more attention in that country. The iPhone is at present the single best selling phone in the US. The media will expectedly receive invitations for this event after the Mobile World Congress trade show in Barcelona this month.
It was earlier rumored that Samsung will unveil the Galaxy S4 in Barcelona, but according to the company, they will not hold any media event at the Mobile World Congress. This is in line with the move away from launching flagship models at trade shows. Samsung garnered a lot of worldwide attention last year for the S3 by holding its own press conference.
The expected date for the retail release of the S4 is supposed to be in the second week of April. According to a source the new phone will first be released in Eastern European countries and in the end of April in the rest of Europe and Asia. On the other hand, it will become available in America, Australia and Africa in May or June.
The Galaxy S4 is also known as the “GT-19500” and is rumored to be powered by the Samsung Exynos 5 Octa chip. This chip was launched at CES trade show last month and has an eight core CPU and eight core GPU. It is expected that it will be paired with 2GB RAM.
It is also expected that the phone will have a 4.99inch Full HD screen and a 13 megapixel rear camera with ability to shoot 1080p videos at 30fps. The phone will have the latest version of Google’s smartphone operating system, Android 4.2.1. It will be available in a range of colors including black and white.
