Samsung is one of the leading developers of smartphones and phablets, and has made numerous attempts at making a profitable and amazing tablet with limited success. This is surprising because of the success they have shown with the smaller devices. Samsung’s flagship, the Galaxy S3, has done very well in the world market as well as the Galaxy Note II phablet, which has cliched Samsung a spot in the leading phablets.
In the last year, Samsung has shipped more hardware than another company, including apple. However, when it comes to tablets, Samsung may not have the designs and materials to compete with the companies currently dominating the market, such as Apple’s already well established iPad.
The first tablet released by Samsung was the Galaxy Tab in 2010. This tablet was inferior to the apple products out at that time and did not get good reviews or do well on the market. Pretty much every tablet Samsung has released since them has had similar problems, and there have been 6 since the release of the Galaxy Tab.
The problems that consumers have with the Samsung tablets are things like the cheap feeling plastic used to cover the device. Wile this material works on smaller devices like smartphones, when applied to a large device such as a tablet, the feeling of plastic makes the consumer feel they do not have a top of the line product. Also, Samsung has a history of developing and advertising features that do not work as they should. The Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is the most recent tablet development by Samsung, and it promises a feature that lets users use two apps at the same time. However, the only apps this works with are a few apps developed by Samsung, and the feature is not applicable to the wider app world.
While Samsung has a good marketing strategy for smartphones, their game plan regarding tablets may need a little tweaking.
