yotaphone 2

When the Russian company, Yota Device, came up with the first generation Yotaphone, the world stopped to take notice. Their innovative device which featured two displays, a color touchscreen on the front and one e-paper screen on the back, was something the world had never seen. Now, at the Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona where the new Samsung Galaxy S5 was revealed, the company revealed their second generation Yotaphone and it’s stunning.

The second generation Yotaphone adds touch to the e-paper display, so you’ve got business in the front and party in the back! It’s not just the touch e-paper display that’s new; Yota Device added a myriad of new features and upgrades, making the Yotaphone 2 a force to be reckoned with in the smartphone industry.

Second Generation Yotaphone Specifications

Yotaphone 2 runs the latest Android operating system, Android 4.4 which makes it a true Android phone with everything Google has to offer. It comes in black and white and weighs 140 grams. The powerful 2550 mAh supports wireless charging and the phone has 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage and a top-of-the-line quad core Snapdragon processor.

The e-paper always-on display has a pixel density of 235 ppi and it is a fully capacitive touch screen; the front display is a color 5’’ touchscreen with a pixel density of 442 ppi and a Full HD 1920×1080. What makes the back display of the second generation Yotaphone truly amazing to look at and hold is the fact that it is curved and uses very little battery to function.

Some apps have a Put2Back button that sends them to the back screen, otherwise all you need to do is swipe down from the top of the screen with two fingers and this gesture will take a static screen shot that gets delivered to the back. The phone allows you to put a custom dashboard on the e-paper display, that will show you social updates and widgets.

There is some great news for the Yotaphone 1 users: they’ll get a substantial discount for upgrading to the second generation Yotaphone when it becomes available at the end of 2014.
