A recent study was done by 451 Research regarding what smartphones consumers are pining for. The subject pool was over 4000 people, 88% of which were American. The results were that the most sought after and wanted phone of the people was the iPhone 5.
50% of those surveyed reportedly wanted an iPhone, which was down from last Septembers 2012 figures of 71%. This is thought be be due to the fact that many people who wanted an iPhone in September now have one,and that many may have received an iPhone over the holiday season as a gift. This leads analysts to conclude that the iPhone is still the number one phone in America, and numbers will pick up again when Apple releases updates and new models.
The survey also saw Samsung’s numbers rise, from 17% in September to 21%.This is thought to be due to the new Galaxy s III,which is Samsung’s new flagship phone and is proving quite popular on the market. This makes Samsung the number one phone with an Android OS in America, something they are undoubtedly ecstatic about.
Phablets,or phones with screens over 5 inches, are also remaining popular with consumers, although not to the same numbers as the iPhone. The Samsung Stylus has made profound waves, and the numbers to reflect this can be seen in the study done by 451 Research.
Despite the drop in numbers for consumers who want the iPhone,Apple customer service department is still the leading contender in this category. With 71% of those surveyed saying they are “very satisfied” with the tech support of Apple. This is compared to Windows 53% customer satisfaction and Google androids 48%.
Apples iPhone 5 may have dropped in numbers for the most desired phone, but the tech support numbers show that people are still more than satisfied with their purchases. This will likely give way to good reviews and therefore, more units sold.
