Gamers who feel they were discriminated against took to online forums and YouTube to vent their frustrations. Here are some examples:
Wolfenstein: The Colossus is a much-anticipated sequel of Wolfenstein: The New Order (2014), which was a sequel of Wolfenstein 3D (1992), a classic which defined the genre of first-person shooters.
The idea behind The Colossus is basically the same as the one from the original: brutally murdering Nazis. However, this time the Nazis won WW2 amd conquered the United States. As a result, the main character William “B.J.” Blazkowicz forms a resistance which tries to get rid the U.S. of the Nazis plague.
Tiny In-Game Details that Irked Gamers
Even though critics have deemed the game ‘politically correct,’ some gamers were offended. For instance, one scene in which KKK members befriend a Nazi officer is considered very offensive to white people. These users aren’t convinced the Nazis and the racist group had a common ground: ethnic cleansing.
Other details that upset gamers include a female black officer who leads the resistance and a white American with a southern accent that criticizes imperialism and Wall Street. Gamers said the black woman was racist against whites while the white southerner was a communist which is even worse than being a Nazi. It is worth noting that communism killed 94 million people from 1900 to 2000, while fascist regimes’ body count was 24 million.
Wolfenstein: The New Colossus is slated to be released on Oct. 27.
