Sony is at a cross-roads, they are not doing too well when it comes to sales and apart from the Xperia Z1f in Japan, nothing seems to be going their way. Android has been a good market, but they are starting to get cut out and may want to find other solutions for income.
Windows Phone really doesn’t have that much competition, HTC has almost abandoned the platform and Samsung may be funded to try and make more devices. Sony may be exactly the thing Windows Phone needs to give Nokia more competition, even if the Finnish company is about to become one with Microsoft.
Apart from Sony, we have heard Huawei and ZTE will be preparing their own low-end devices for 2014. Since the Nokia Lumia 520/521 have been the most popular devices on Windows Phone, we can see why OEM partners are starting to move to more lower end smartphones.
Sony will probably launch a high-end device, similar to their Xperia Z line, possibly with some of the same features as the latest Xperia Z1. This means the Windows Phone may come with a waterproof design and different colors to match the Windows Phone aesthetic.
It is a little odd how two companies who are arch rivals in one area can work together in another, Xbox One and PS4 are two of the major consoles available and both Microsoft and Sony have been battling it out for market share and developer interest.
Sony will probably add the PlayStation app if the Windows Phone does come – alongside a host of other applications made specific to boost Sony’s services.
