Canadian residents can start placing pre-orders for Sony Xperia Tablet Z at Sony’s online store, with the tablet’s Canada release scheduled for May 22nd 2013.
The Xperia Tablet Z is quite similar to the latest Xperia Z smartphone, in terms of features and build-quality. It is well-equipped to compete with the iPad 4 and Nexus 10 with its range of high-end features.
Launched at the CES show in January, Xperia Tablet Z is touted as the thinnest slate available right now. At the launch, Sony announced an April release, but later postponed the release date to late May.
The premium build of the Xperia Tablet Z features subtle rounded edges, and a remarkably water-resistant and dust-resistant 10.1-inch glass display. The full HD display features an amazing resolution of 1920 x 1200.
The internal features are equally remarkable with the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system, 6000 mAh battery, 1.5 GHz quad-core processor, 2 GB RAM, 8.1 megapixel rear-camera, and 2.2 megapixel front-camera. Sony plans to upgrade the operating system to Android 4.2 after the launch. The device comes with 16 GB and 32 GB internal storage plus a microSD slot that lets you expand the memory for up to 64 GB.
Other features include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and plenty of pre-loaded applications. You can access unlimited entertainment from the Sony Entertainment Network plus Google’s Play Store that offers over 600,000 Android apps.
The 16 GB version costs about $500, while the 32 GB version costs about $600. For now, they are available only at Sony’s online store, but will soon hit the shelves of retailers.
