The American tech giant Apple Inc. has recently updated their operating system, iOS. This new improvement brings an interesting feature for Sprint and iPhone users alike: Sprint announced Wi-Fi calling to iPhone.
The telecommunications company Sprint has announced that, beginning with the lates update of the iOS, iPhone users will be allowed to make phone calls through a wi fi connection. This new feature is going to start being available next week. The ones who will benefit from this update and partnership between Sprint and Apple will be the customers who own an iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5 or an iPhone 5 S. In order to make phone calls only using a wi fi connection, these users are required to update their smartphones` operating system to iOs 8.3. After that, the wi fi calling option will be accessible.
This announcement represents great news for the American clients of both Spring and Apple Inc. who meet these requirements, since in the United States there is an abundance of wi fi networks. Western Europe also has an impressive web of such networks, in public spaces or institutions, but also in places where there is no cellular coverage. This feature solves the problem of not having proper cellular coverage, because from now on, Spring and Apple users will have the chance to make phone calls via a wi fi connection, not only access the internet or operate with certain data.
The new feature will be very easy to access. Officials representing the Spring Corporation stated that using the wi fi calling service will be similar to using the Bluetooth. It will be activated through a turn on / turn off system.
But one of the most important advantages of the new system seems to be the fact that it is completely free. It does not count the number of minutes you talked on the phone and this feature certainly lends a hand to people who travel abroad. Any Sping and iPhone user in France will be able to call home in Nebraska and talk unbounded by the amount of money they would have to pay for such an international conversation, just by accessing a wi fi network.
“Wi-Fi calling is like a major expansion of our network, allowing Sprint customers to get coverage anywhere they have Wi-Fi connectivity. Traditional wireless technology has some limitations in places like basements and high-rise office buildings. Wi-Fi expands our customer’s connectivity in a big way. The addition of Wi-Fi calling for iPhone customers is just one more example of how Sprint is getting better every day.”
said David Owens, an official speaking on behalf of Sprint.
