TAG Heuer, the luxury Swiss watchmaker, is bound to reveal this year a new Android Wear 2.0 smartwatch. Thus, the smartwatch market will reach a new level, evolving to touch a new peak. Jean-Claude Biver, the CEO of Tag Heuer, has confirmed his company will reveal the Tag Heuer Connected model in May 2017.
The smartwatches developed in the first series are almost all sold. That is why the watchmaker is ready to launch a new collection. The CEO of the company argued that their plan for 2017 is to sell 150,000 smartwatches. The new model will be available in two different sizes. Experts expect it to be outfitted with a more advanced hardware. The smaller of the two variants of smartwatches is meant for women.
These newly developed models will also incorporate different finish and colors. What is more, the Android Wear 2.0 device will also be equipped with a GPS module and a powerful display. The GPS feature is capable of establishing the location within the radius of a meter. The company would also use an Intel processor. This is considered to be an unusual feature for the Android Wear product.
The design for the new series of smartwatches was developed by Tag Heuer. Jean-Claude Biver pointed out that his company had sold about 56,000 watches since November 2015 when the Tag Heuer Connected was launched. These new sales have amazingly surpassed the initial target of the business which was registered at 20,000 units.
In 2016, the watchmaker has developed approximately 14% sales. In December 2014, Swiss watch exports increased by 10% while Tag Heuer sales had significantly dropped by nearly 10%. Unfortunately, the development of the watch was rapidly declining. The CEO of the watchmaker justified this reduction by stating that even if the next iteration of AppleWatch was new, it only offered an Apple Pay support compared to the older version of the watch.
The next model which will be launched by Tag Heuer will have a battery with a longer life, improved reception, and better display. The new wearable will have a modular system, and that is what makes it a unique product, differentiating it from its rivals. LG is known to be the first company to implement Android Wear 2.0 in their smartwatches.
