Google Hangouts for Android Gets a Major Update Today

By Leave a Comment

Google Hangouts for Android
Those who are using Google’s Hangouts app have probably noticed that it looks different. That’s because Google Hangouts for Android has been updated with some cool new features and it looks better than ever.

Bradley Horowitz, vice president of Google+ products announced at a conference in Paris called LeWeb, that the Hangouts app will get a new “look” and new features. He said that most of the features added are to make the app more fun, but there are a few new features that have been added to make the service faster and easier to work with.
Among those “fun” features of the Google Hangouts for Android are 16 sticker pages and some Easter eggs to make for a cooler “happy birthday” wish. The user will have some pleasant surprises after installing this new update and type “woot” in the chat space.

Google Hangouts for Android comes with some cool-looking filters that can be applied when video chatting. Some of those filter modes include sepia, black and white, vignette and the “change” visual style (the one used for Obama’s presidential campaign).

Many agree that these little visual updates are pretty fun to play with, but the real updates are these ones. The real updates are smarter ones. For example, if a friend asks where you are, the new Hangouts app will automatically ask you if you want to share the location you’re at. You don’t have to do much. You just need to put a pin on the map and that’s it. If you don’t want to give out the exact address you don’t have to do it. Google Hangouts app for Android has updated that feature too.

Hangouts already had the option that allowed the user to share the location but the new update is different. Google is trying to make the conversation go smoother by offering you a quick reply option.

Also, the contacts from you contact list will have a “last seen” notification so that you know when each and everyone is online. The new Google Hangouts for Android gives you the option to import all the contacts from the phone right into the app.

Pinterest’s New Guided Search Makes It Easier To Pin Your Interests

By Leave a Comment

pinterest guided search Pinterest is discovery platform with more than 750 million boards and 30 billion pins. One would say that’s a lot. It is. But with so many boards and pins one might find it difficult to discover what one may be looking for. It’s even more difficult to find the useful things that you didn’t know they exist on Pinterest in the first place. Worry no more because Pinterest’s new Guided Search is a unique search engine that is designed for Android and IOS apps. With this new feature Pinterest promises an easier way of finding what you’re looking for and also explore new corners of the popular platform you might have missed when looking for your usual stuff.

Most people use Pinterest from their mobile apps, more exactly around 75% of the total use and Comscore says that about 48.2 million users use it on their desktop computers.

Pinterest’s new Guided Search engine will make each search unique for the user and will let them craft their own search as they go along. This will avoid retracing of steps that is typical when searching on Google or other web search engines. Ben Silbermann, the CEO of Pinterest explains at the company’s headquarters in San Francisco: “Let’s build a search engine that’s more about exploration and discovery and teaching you about your tastes.”

Pinterest has been around for about four years and it’s a social network where you can go for inspiration on a plethora of topics like fashion, home design, food, fitness, travel, etc. If you are a member on this platform you can store your favorite findings on digital pin boards so you won’t forget them. Pinterest now has some other new features for people who are interested in traveling called place-aware pins and boards. So if you’re looking for places to spend this summer vacation or for cool music festivals (and there are many options) and you don’t want to forget anything pin it on your Pinterest board.

Pinterest’s new Guided Search engine is meant to filter down the user’s searches by tagging it with new specific info that pulls the descriptions written by other users all over the platform. For example, if you search for “vespa”, let’s say, it will automatically bring up terms like “scooter”, “vintage” and “helmet”. This will help you combine various filters in order to create a custom search that will incorporate all the ways Pinterest users have organized their specific type of pins.

Pinterest’s new Guided Search- availability

The new feature form Pinterest is available for mobile apps and will be coming soon for desktop computers.
