Back in March we took a look at Panasonic’s new wearable camera and today we’re going to see what the tech giant has come up with recently. Panasonic has just unveiled a new pin-sized battery that is perfect for wearable devices. Let’s take a look at the new Panasonic pin-sized battery!
The Panasonic Pin-Sized Battery
Today, Panasonic announced that it had created a pin-sized lithium-ion battery that is only 20 mm long and measures 3.5 mm in diameter. In other words, it is one-twentieth the size of normal AAA batteries. It may very well be the smallest battery in the entire industry in terms of capacity by volume!
The nominal capacity of the Panasonic pin-sized battery is 13 mAh and its voltage is 3.75. This allows for Bluetooth and near-field communication (NFC) links with smartphones.
What’s such a small battery good for, you ask? Well, the small size makes it perfect for wearable devices that because of their size don’t have a good battery life. Think about smart glasses, hearing aids, electronic pens or fitness bands and how much they will benefit from this new Panasonic pin-sized battery.
Panasonic released a statement in which it said:
The size, which is the smallest of its kind in the industry, can allow more flexible product design, and high strength and stability of form delivers high reliability.
Aside from helping the wearables out by giving them more juice, the Panasonic pin-sized battery can also help them become smaller.
The tech giant is planning to develop two more pin-sized batteries; one with a capacity of 30 mAh and the other one with 50 mAh.
We applaud Panasonic for this amazing product and we believe that batteries in general still have a long way to go until they can truly satisfy the modern man’s lust for technology. What are your thoughts on the new Panasonic pin-sized battery? Drop us a line in the comment section below.
