BLU Products wants to conquer a highly important niche in the U.S. Most mobile carriers count heavily on offering handsets at attractive prices as long as you sign a contract. Without the carrier subsidy, flagship smartphones and even midrange ones come at higher prices. You know, a ‘subsidy’ which you end up paying on the long run.
So you might be looking for an unlocked device to avoid such a burdening contract. BLU Products launched C Series with this aim in mind. The four smartphones have prices ranging from $89 to $149. That is very good news, more so as the line of devices coming with Android 4.4 KitKat.
“BLU is dedicated to continue bringing consumers choice in the way of unlocked smartphones, driven by the demand for affordable quality devices and the freedom of selecting their airtime provider, thus by eliminating the dependency of locked devices which the Network Carrier has to offer,” said Samuel Ohev-Zion, CEO of BLU Products. “We will continue to fundamentally change the mobile industry by making great looking smartphones that can do amazing things, priced for everyone.”
Samsung released four affordable smartphones a couple of weeks ago as well.
BLU Products launched C Series with no-contract customers in mind
BLU Products launched C Series, so let us have a look at the four smartphones’ specs. The main differentiation criteria is the processing unit. Studio 5.0 C HD and Studio C Mini come with MediaTek Quad Core MT6582 1.3GHz with Mali-400 GPU. The Studio 5.0 C and Studio 5.0 CE come with MediaTek Dual Core MT6572 1.3GHz with Mali-400 GPU. The names are confusing, aren’t they? But we will get used to them soon, because they will surely be popular.
So the two higher-end smartphones come with IPS displays. The Studio 5.0 C HD features a 5 inches 720 X 1080 screen, while the Studio C Mini has a 4.7 inches 480 X 800 one. Studio 5.0 C HD comes with 1 Gb of RAM, while the three others only have 512 MB.
All devices have a 4 GB internal memory and support micro-sd cards of up to 32 GB for the dual-core models and 64 GB for the quad-core. Besides the cheapest model, Studio 5.0 CE, all smartphones have the Wi-Fi hotspot function. Studio 5.0 CE does not support 3G (?!), but that explains its low price. It does have a Wi-Fi receiver though. BLU Products launched C Series and we are eager to check them out as soon as possible!
