There have been many rumors circling around what Google has in store for us regarding their new camera app. Fortunately the Google camera app has been updated and can be used on any smart mobile device that uses Android as their operating system. Their new app is available in the Play Store and can be downloaded and installed on any smartphone or tablet running on Android 4.4 KitKat. Google not only improved the interface of their previous camera app but they also have some unexpected cool new features for tech lovers.
The new interface features a large capture button positioned on the right and it is semi-transparent if you have a device that takes 16.9 images. It has a 4:3 sensor frame which fits quite nicely on the rest of the screen. It’s what we call a solid improvement that Google camera app gets because the previous one showed a 16:9 frame regardless of the fact that your phone could take 4:3 images. This small inconvenience actually cut off the top and bottom in the viewfinder.
With the new camera app you get all your most used settings for HDR like the flash in a popup menu, where you have the capture button. If you swipe from the left it will bring up all the shooting modes and extra settings. The new and improved Google camera app comes with your usual effects like panorama, still, video, Photospheres and the surprise feature which is a brand new photo effect called Lens Blur. The cool thing about this effect is that you can use it to fake a shallow depth of field in your photos. It’s exactly the same feature that HTC One M8 has on its second camera. Also, with the new Lens Blur feature the camera app knows what’s foreground and what’s background just by slowly raising the device when you take a photo. After you’ve taken the photo you can tap on it to change the focus point. The app also lets you adjust how intense you want the blur effect to be. Also you get some pretty awesome results, the image gets downsampled to 2000pixels tall.
Google Camera App – video mode updates
Another great additional change you get with the new Google camera app is when you want to switch to video mode. If you hold your device in portrait mode, you get a pop up with an icon which tells you to rotate your smartphone to landscape.
