Is The Internet’s Tortuga Closing Down for Good?

"Is The Internet’s Tortuga Closing Down for Good?"

Pirate Bay has won a trial in Sweden.

The fervid question that is on everybody’s lips today is: what will happen to our neighborly pirate server? Is the Internet’s Tortuga closing down for good?

Friday night, work’s done, no dishes to wash and no dog to walk. What can you? How about getting yourself a nice movies or, even better, a PC game in order to alleviate your boredom and to chill out? No, problem, because Pirate Bay is always a click away and you could find there virtually anything that pops into your mind. But, surfing on the net a bit, you would find that there are plans set in motion to capture these modern Robin Hoods.

It’s no big news that the torrent in going through some tough times. Since 2009, Pirate Bay has faced countless accusations regarding copyright infringement. Big musical names such as Warner Music, Sony Music and a couple of Scandinavian film producers have complained that Pirate Bay is freely distributing pirated content.

And to make matters worse, recently another bittorrent operator by the name of Popcorn time, very popular due to the fact that it was distributing content taken from companies like Netflix, got shut down on the same account as Pirate Bay. The two developers that managed the torrent were accused of breaking copyright legislation.

In order to get the big picture, we should add that Pirate Bay, our own personal Tortuga, got outlawed in quite a few European countries. Nations such as Great Britain declared the website illegal and order the site to be blocked. Internet providers from these countries are required to immediately block user access to Pirate Bay or similar sites. It would seem that piracy has become a dying business these days.

But the situation is entirely different for other countries. It would seem that Sweden, Pirate Bay’s motherland, has ruled in favor of our modern-day brigands. The trial started almost a month ago, and many Pirate Bay users from Sweden thought that it was the end of Pirate Bay.

It would seem that luck never left Pirate Bay’s side. After much deliberation, members of the Swedish court of law, declared that Pirate Bay will not face any further prosecution. The site’s fans can now breathe much easily, because Pirate Bay won’t close any time soon.

Still, a word of caution for those of you who are planning to download something from Pirate Bay. Although no harm will come to you if you’re surfing on the platform, if by chance, you would chose to download content from the site, the risk of being brought up on charges is imminent.
