Advertising of Dark Souls 3 Release Done Right

last release in the Dark Souls trilogy will be released

For anyone who has played any game of the Souls Series, April marks an iconic moment as that is the month when the last release in the Dark Souls trilogy will be released. Starting with the unofficial entry that was Demons’ Souls back in 2009, both the developing and publishing company and the huge fan base it has managed to muster up since have been on the wildest of rides when it comes to compelling Metroidvania gameplay and an unmatched method of story-telling.

And with the last Souls title on the horizon comes a huge amount of build-up. Bandai Namco, the publisher behind the three Dark Souls games appears to be hard at work with teasing its millions of fans with a considerable amount of preparation through the means of trailers and short animated movies. If you haven’t been spoiling the themes and gameplay of the third installment of the Dark Souls series pre-launch press release streams, you’ll surely enjoy these short pieces of art much more.

One such teaser is an animated short that was created alongside Eli Roth – a known American film director, producer, writer and actor – that has made a reputation with titles such as Thanksgiving and other delicate-themed films that have a knack at shocking and telling a more gruesome reality of things. Which is not very different from what the Dark Souls series has attempted to do throughout the years; all set in a fictional world of course.

The animated short directed by Roth has been dubbed Dark Souls 3 – The Witches and in spite of the first impressions that it gives off thanks to its animation is just as dark as anyone would expect from a Souls game. The short movie has been rated PEGI-16 and surely, viewer discretion is advised as it depicts some graphic content that some may not find suitable. On the other hand, however, it’s a pretty accurate description of how one of the Souls Series’ bizarre and abstract monsters may have – at one point – come to be. You can watch the short animated trailer here.

Meanwhile, other names have released a trailer in the spirit of 80s horror movies that takes a leap away from the feeling and themes of Miyazaki’s Dark Souls games, but is undoubtedly a well put together short trailer, mixing up VHS-quality short glimpses of Dark Souls 3 gameplay and scenery to prepare you for the horrific experience that will be the last of its kind.
