Samsung Galaxy S5’s Display – The Best Performing Smartphone Display

By 1 Comment

Samsung Galaxy S5's Display Ever since the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S5 in February, people have hauled the S5 as the best smartphone in the world and now those people have the hard proof to wave it in front of all those Apple lovers: DisplayMate Technologies, an important pawn in the display test kit production business, has released a report in which they revealed that the Samsung Galaxy S5’s display is the best performing smartphone display in the world.

Samsung Galaxy S5’s Display – The Best in the World

Samsung has never been very good at making displays; they’ve always had problems with oversaturated colors, but with the Samsung Galaxy S5, it seems that they’ve outdone themselves. According to DisplayMate, the worldwide leader in video diagnostics, Samsung’s Galaxy S5’s display is the best display on a smartphone, better than the displays of Sony Xperia Z2, iPhone 5S and the HTC One M8.

DisplayMate stated that the S5 has the best performing smartphone display that they’ve ever tested, which is a lot, coming from the people who test every device they put their hands on.

Samsung Galaxy S5’s display is a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED screen with 1080×1920 pixels (full HD resolution). The lab tests revealed that the display is the most accurate display on any smartphone at the moment, 22% brighter than the previous Samsung model, the Galaxy S4 and its forte is, apparently, its wonderful performance in outdoor lighting.

Samsung Galaxy S5’s display has a Super Dimming Mode which allows the screen brightness to be turn down low to a 2cd/m2, while still delivering a full 24-bit color, which means that the picture quality remains stunning!

What are your thoughts on the Samsung Galaxy S5’s display? Do  you own one? If you’d like to share any of your thoughts or comments on Samsung Galaxy S5’s display, we invite you to do it in the comment section below.

Samsung proposing 4K foldable smartphone screens by 2015

By Leave a Comment

samsung Samsung has a busy few years ahead, after their CEO announced 4K foldable smartphone screens will be a thing in two years time. Samsung already develops some of the highest resolution displays on the planet, with the 5-inch 1080p panel and the 2560 x 1600 tablet panel.

To make a 4K smartphone screen, the company would need to pack four times more pixels into the same sized screen they have today. Pixels on a screen are already indistinguishable and the human eye cannot see a single pixel of a 440ppi screen, it is literally impossible.

Since TVs are starting to move into 4K and other media services state they will offer 4K video support, it is only a matter of time before the large screen 4K treacles down to the smaller five/six-inch displays currently available with many Android smartphones.

Samsung also has another additional challenge, making the 4K screen fully flexible and foldable, like the demos at CES showed. Samsung’s Galaxy Round was a little letdown when the screen was not flexible at all, but simply curved with a plastic back.

In 2015, Samsung hopes to be able to make a foldable display that will fit inside your pocket. The South Korean mobile giant believes they can reach 2K (2560 x 1600) by 2014 on smartphones and push the boundaries once again in 2015 to hit 4K.

Samsung is also looking to create ARM processors with 64bit architecture before 2015. Apple and Qualcomm already do this and the only thing Samsung needs to achieve is for the processor to be compatible with ARM’s instruction set.

This is an exciting time for mobile devices on a power front, perhaps not on an innovation front. 4K may be the next best thing in displays, but it is not exactly incredible for the end user, who will see a big drop in battery life and not a huge amount of resolution change, considering they cannot see the big different between 720p and 1080p.

iPhone 6 will get 5-inch 1920 x 1080p display boost

iphone-6

Apple’s CEO Tim Cook is promising big things in 2014 for the company and the rumor mill is already stirring with all seeps of news on the next generation of Apple products, including the iPhone 6, getting hinted and leaked.

It may still be some time before we see the iPhone 6, but Apple has already picked their next display, according to a recent issue of Mac Fan magazine. The article suggests Apple will once again boost the size of the screen to five-inches, fitting in with all the Android offerings.

This is a big leap from the 1336 x 640 resolution currently on the iPhone 5S, a little redundant compared to the 1080p offerings on Android and Windows Phone. Apple knows they need to get into the specs game to compete with Samsung and other mobile makers, something they are already doing with the 64bit A7 processor.

Apple has been exploring different form factors for a while and it looks like the iPhone 6 will be the first to put it into practice, after the incremental four-inch size increase on the iPhone 5. Some reports say Apple is trying out devices up to 6-inches in size, pointing at the possibility of a phablet.

Apart from the size redesign, we do not expect any significant upgrades apart from a new processor. Apple has always added new A-chips to the new smartphone launch since the inception and we do not believe they will stop now, it is likely the A8 chip will have boosts in performance and battery consumption.

Tim Cook did say at All Things D larger smartphones were still a little underwhelming in terms of longevity, the average screen dying out after a year or two or succumbing to some sort of quality failure. Perhaps Apple is working hard with partners to make sure the five-inch display does not fail, even though the HTC One and Galaxy S4 both have pretty impressive displays that have not had major failures.
