If you are the type of person following the booming trend of turning your home into a smart one through DIY projects, you will be happy to know that LittleBits introduced a new Smart Home Kit available for $249. LittleBits is known on the smart home market for developing electronic modules that people can use by themselves to build their own electronic hardware.

In an era that speaks louder and louder about the Internet of Things and turning regular homes into smart ones, this company speeds up its game by launching a rather revolutionary product.

The new Smart Home Kit is the largest one released by LittleBits so far and it contains 14 modules. They are meant to help DIYers to revamp and retrofit their old electronics and gadgets into new ones. So instead of buying new and expensive smart devices, this kit allows you to reinvent electronics you already own and connect them to the Internet via the the cloudBit.

What can be done with the new Smart Home Kit? Keeping in mind that the package contains 14 “Bits” such as an MP3 player, temperature sand light sensors, a speaker and an IR transmitter, there are a great number of DIY projects you can get involved in. For instance, you can turn your dull coffee pot into a smart one, you can program your curtains to open by themselves in the morning, or you can set your toilet paper roll to notify you when the paper is about to end.

If you are afraid that you won’t be able to put in practice the projects available through the new Smart Home Kit, don’t worry: the kit is packed with DYI project ideas and tutorials and with 11 accessories to make things easier for you. According to the company,

“The Smart Home Kit is giving people the power and opportunity to take the Internet of Things movement into their own hands, and bring their home to the 21st century, on their own terms and recreate a popular smart device, retrofit an old appliance, or invent something entirely new that may be the next big thing.”

In other words, inspired by their ideas, you can come up with even newer ideas, making this world a better place. And who knows, you may be the next smart home entrepreneur of the year.

The new Smart Home Kit launched by LittleBits is now available for pre – ordering on the company’s website. The kits will get shipped in December. If you want to see them with your very own eyes and touch them, LittleBits announced that the kits would also be available in RadioShack stores starting next month.
