On Wednesday, the Google Translate app got a twist : people can now understand each other with the help of this app, even if they don’t speak the same language. The new Google app detects languages as they are being spoken, the users mustn’t even choose the language pack themselves. However, the conversation may start only after approving that the languages are right. Then, it automatically switches to the other one, while the interlocutors change places. At the moment, it translates from English to French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish, and vice-versa. Apple has had real-time translation since 2013, but it was rather complicated, in comparison with the latest version of Google.
The new version of the app is called version 3.1.0 and it is available on iTunes App Store. The update is especially created for the iPhones 5, 6 and 6 Plus. Unfortunately, even if it has been in the electronic store for a while now, it is not among the top 5 best language translator apps for iPhones, conclusion stated on Heavy.com
Another update for the Google Translate app is realated to written words and phrases. It’s called Word Lens and It uses the back camera of the phone in two ways: there are only some languages that can be used: English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish. If the language wanted if a different one, the user needs to take a picture first and the use the online tool in order to translate the writing. CNET calls it as being “Feature-packed” and “extremely versatile”. The engineers of Google admit that the app that this app in particular required a lot of work.
Google’s employee and translation passionate Julie Cattiau says that
“With our new app, we’re able to detect the languages being spoken so you don’t even have to press the translate button on the phone each time you talk. It’s now so much more natural.”
Google Translate and Microsoft’s Skype translator are today the best tools that help online users to communicate better even if they don’t speak the same language in any way. This barrier that kept us away from one another is slowly fading away thanks to the latest successes in technology.
