Microsoft Stacks Up on Christmas Discounts

December 21, 2015 By Brandi McCants Leave a Comment

"Microsoft Stacks Up on Christmas Discounts"

Microsoft offers a 50 dollar discount for X-Box One.

As the song say, this is indeed the season to be jolly, and not just because of the snow. If you haven’t decided yet what to put under the Christmas tree, that all we could say is that you are playing a very dangerous game. Christmas is just around the corner and the perspective of doing some last-minute shopping isn’t gonna do. But you’re in luck because Microsoft stacks up on Christmas Discounts.

If you’re fancied the X-Box series, then you know how hard it is to part with your old man. And I’m not talking about nostalgia here, but about the prices. Even though we don’t care to admit it, the perspective of buying the new X-Box One is just not meant to be for some of us, because the device isn’t exactly cheap.

But Christmas being the season of miracles, blessing and giving Microsoft plans to bless its fans with a little miracle by showing them what giving is all about. And so, if you thought about buying an X-Box One, this could be the moment.

As of now, Microsoft has announced that it will be issuing a 50 dollar discount for each X-Box One bought directly from Microsoft Store. Moreover, whoever decides to buy a new console will also receive a 50 dollar gift coupon, which he can use in order to buy other items available on the online store.

But wait, there’s more, as Billy Mays used to say. If you’re planning on buying a console from Microsoft store, apart from the 50 dollar discount, you will also receive a free game. So, X-Box One, 50 dollar discount and free games: what more can you want from Santa?

Well, as expected, the games included in this offer are not exactly box-office breakers, but they’re not lame either. When buying the console, each used is entitled to choosing a game of his choice. Yu will be able to choose between Assassin’s Creed: Unity, Watch Dogs or The Crew.

Now, if you’re planning on taking up Microsoft’s offer, you may want to keep one thing in mind: shipping. Be very careful when you choose you shipping method, because, as Christmas is approaching, most shipping companies will have their hands full, and you might have to wait quite a while in order to receive your package.

If by chance you live near a Microsoft store, than you can always opt for the pick at location option. And if the product is available, you will be able to pick it up on the spot. Merry Christmas and happy hunting, kids!

Nvidia’s Shield Gaming Tablets are Getting Updated

October 3, 2014 By Daniel Giordano 1 Comment

A while back we saw how Amazon launched Kindle Fire HD kids edition and today we’re going to take a look at the latest Nvidia news. The gaming giant has updated its Shield gaming tablets and has also released a software upgrade.

Nvidia’s Shield Gaming Tablets

Nvidia has just released an updated version of its line of Shield gaming tablets and has also given its software a boost.

The Nvidia Shied gaming tablets are a gamer’s dream and the updated versions features bug fixes and improved user-end functionality. The gamers can now gain access to the My Android Games and My Media Apps section on their tablets and can customize them.

There is also a new model which comes with LTE (through AT&T) as well as Wi-Fi connectivity. This makes the device the first Shield gaming tablet with cellular network.

Shield Gaming Tablets

The new Shield gaming tablets come with a 2.2 Ghz chip and a 8-inch full HD display (1920×1200). You get up to 32 GB of internal storage space and 2 GB of RAM. Bluetooth 4.0, front facing cameras and rear facing cameras are also a part of the package, as are a pair of front facing stereo speakers that sound pretty awesome to us. You’ve also got a mini-HDMI output in case you need to connect it to your TV and the Shield gaming tablet comes with a stylus now!

The internal memory can be expanded to up to 128 GB with the help of a microSD card. The operating system is the good old Google Android KitKat (4.4.2).

Sure, the new 8-inch Shield gaming tablets aren’t as portable as the old Nvidia Shield tablets, but the tech specs are enough to make up for it.

What are your thoughts on the new Nvidia Shield gaming tablets? Are you going to get one? Are you a passionate gamer? Drop us a line in the comment section below and share your thoughts with us.

Microsoft Cuts the Price of Xbox One in UK

September 24, 2014 By Daniel Giordano Leave a Comment

Remember how at the beginning of this month we reported that PlayStation 4 was selling like hotcakes in the UK? It seems that Microsoft isn’t liking that very much and that it decided to do something about it. It cut the price of the Xbox One in UK in hopes that it will revive sales.

Microsoft has officially confirmed that it has cut the price of the Xbox One in the United Kingdom by £20, which means that the game console is now priced at £329. They also added that the drop in price will only be applied to the UK and that it is an effort to close the gap between the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.

Microsoft Cuts the Price of Xbox One

Should North America customers also expect a drop, even if Microsoft particularly said they would only cut the price in UK? Some say that they should. Analysts believe that Microsoft’s move is done in anticipation of the winter holidays and that during the holidays Microsoft will indeed drop the prices in North America. Here’s what one analyst had to say about this:

If the slight price cut helps in the UK, I can see Microsoft trying the same thing here for the holidays, but it could come in the form of a rebate or perhaps they will opt to just run the free game promotion again. They know Sony has sold a lot of PlayStation 4 consoles and Microsoft will be eager to try and have a successful holiday season and if doing something is going to help them sell more consoles this holiday than Sony, I would think they will do it.

What are your thoughts on this matter? Are you happy that Microsoft is finally doing something to narrow the gap across the pond? Are you living in the UK and will you be purchasing the Xbox one? Share your thoughts and comments with us in the section below.

The Osmo Game for iPad is Great for Your Kids

May 23, 2014 By Nicholas Anderton Leave a Comment

osmoToday’s society is pretty concerned with children not playing in the traditional manner anymore, but using technology for entertainment. If you are a parent, you know what we are talking about. Children prefer video games instead of regular toys or a healthy encounter with some friends outside the house.

Of course, not all children are alike and some parents do great efforts to teach them the importance of natural play, as opposed to getting stuck to a computer’s screen.

However, those of you who can’t just remove the tech from the house, but still want your kids to have an awesome time, let us present you the Osmo game for iPad. This intelligent invention combines traditional play with the use of hi – tech gadgets that will please all children and parents alike.

How does the Osmo Game for iPad work?

According to the manufacturers and the reviewers,

Osmo combines real physical objects with the virtual world of an iPad. It uses a simple plastic stand, a mirror, and a handful of common objects to create a unique gaming experience.

Let’s take things step by step: everything that needs to be done consists in the following procedures:

– placing the iPad (2 and above) in the plastic stand

– hooking the mirror in front of the front – facing camera of the iPad

– launching the games

The Osmo game for iPad delivers 3 games one can choose from at launch. Each game comes with its own app. The games are highly educational and entertaining and they don’t fall in the category of “virtual reality”, but create a “true reality” based on some low – tech objects that come together in the same pack. The three games involve a highly competitive spelling game a child can play against some opponents, a puzzle game with over 2, 400 puzzle combinations and a very interesting game which appeals to the kids’ imagination.

Reviewers playing this game (and we are talking adults here) said the game is addictive, even at older ages. Osmo was designed for children aged 6 to 12, but parents can easily play along and compete in a game of hangman.

The creators of the game were very concerned with delivering a game which is sturdy, almost unbreakable and fun on the long – term. The plastic stand and the mirror are surprisingly resistant to any child’s destructive ideas, while the games themselves can be played for weeks and even months without becoming boring.

If you want to give Osmo a try, unfortunately, you have to wait for a while. For now the game is available only for pre – order and if you hurry, you can benefit from the 50% discount of the usual $99 price (for all three games). The creators said that after the first 1,000 pre – orders were registered, they would start manufacturing the physical pieces. Then you will have to wait between 8 and 12 weeks to receive your order. Seems like a very long time, but it is also worth it.

Nintendo Apologized for Tomodachi Life Not Being Fair to the Gay Community

May 12, 2014 By Lori David Leave a Comment

Tomodachi-Life The latest news concerning the awareness campaign focused on Nintendo’s choice of not allowing same – sex relationships to be possible in the virtual life game simulator Tomodachi Life let us know that Nintendo apologized for Tomodachi Life not being fair to the gay community and pledged to be more concerned with the issue in the future. After Tye Marini’s social media campaign gathered more and more followers, all pressuring the game publisher to change its mind and become more inclusive and open towards the gay community, Nintendo Japan released an official statement which gives hope to the Tomodachi Life users. It is worth mentioning that in the past week the social media campaign also gained the support of gay advocacy organizations, such as GLAAD and it seems that Nintendo didn’t have other choice but to respond to its fans and customers in the most diplomatic way possible.

On Friday, the Japanese publisher promised the fans that in the future they will take into account the fans’ request and right to inclusion and come up with a more inclusive and permissive game installment. According to the media, the officials stated that

We are committed to advancing our longtime company values of fun and entertainment for everyone. We pledge that if we create a next installment in the ‘Tomodachi’ series, we will strive to design a game-play experience from the ground up that is more inclusive, and better represents all players.

In other words, even if they can’t change anything about the English version of the game set to become available this summer, they will be more careful about the sensitive issue of gay rights upon the release of future game patches and installments.

The statement had an immediate echo and the awareness campaign creator, Tye Marini, also released an official statement on Saturday, expressing his happiness and gratitude towards Nintendo’s intentions:

I don’t believe they are a homophobic company at all. I think that the exclusion of same-sex relationships was just an unfortunate oversight.

But now, according to some commentators, Nintento has to practice what it preaches. While in the English – speaking world of game playing there are already LGBT – friendly games and environments, the Japanese publisher needs to live up to the expectations and align its policies to the existing ones.

GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis legitimately noticed that

Nintendo has taken a first step, but if the company’s longtime values are rooted in ‘fun and entertainment for everyone,’ then it needs to catch up to peers like Electronic Arts, which has been inclusive of LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) gamers for years.

Now that Nintendo apologized for Tomodachi Life not being fair to the gay community, all we have to do is stay updated to the news and see how Nintendo plays its cards in the future.

Five-Year Old Kid Uncovers Xbox One Security Flaw

April 7, 2014 By David Crozier Leave a Comment

xbox one security flawDid you know that Microsoft Xbox one sells bigger than Sony Playstation 4? This means that Xbox One is the most popular gaming console on the planet. We’ve got some funny news about the world’s best gaming console: an Xbox One security flaw was discovered this week… by a 5-year old boy in San Diego, California.

Xbox One Security Flaw

It appears that Microsoft is lucky to have smart and fair consumers. A five-year old boy, named Kristoffer Von Hassel, managed to discover an Xbox One security flaw while playing on the Xbox. He pressed some random buttons which allowed him to log into his father Xbox account.

His father, Richard Davies, noticed that his son was playing games he wasn’t supposed to while logged in his Xbox Live account. The little boy feared that his Xbox would be taken away from him if he continued to play games that were off-limits, so when his father confronted him, he admitted he had logged into his account and even showed his father how he did it.

Apparently, when he was prompted for a password, Kristoffer would enter spaces and then hit enter, which managed to gain him access to his father’s Xbox Live account.

When the little boy was interviewed about his reaction when he first saw that he had unrestricted access to Xbox Live, he said I was like, yeah!, which is the perfect reaction for a 5-year old child gaining unlimited access to something had been previously banned from.

After the child showed his father the Xbox One security flaw, Richard Davies filed a report to Microsoft and they thanked the child and father, and then fixed the issue.

What are your thoughts on this Xbox one security flaw? Would you like to add anything to this story? Have you ever come across anything like this? Share your comments with us in the section below, we’d love to hear from you.

Review of Two Flappy Bird Replacements

March 17, 2014 By Lori David Leave a Comment

flappy bird replacementsYou could fill barrels with the tears of those who have cried because Flappy Bird was pulled off the market. Although Flappy Bird creator says he could put his highly addictive game back on the market, he’s not making any promises, so game developers are beginning to put out Flappy Bird replacements just to keep up with the demand. We’re going to take a look at three games which copy Flappy Bird and tell you if they’re worth downloading.

The Two Flappy Bird Replacements

1. Fly Birdie

Fly Birdie works just like Flappy Bird, you need to tap the screen to advance your bird up and navigate it through the tubes. Stop tapping and the bird falls. Simple. The really great thing about it, which makes it one of the best, if not the best Flappy Bird replacements on the market is that it is very similar to Flappy Bird, so if you’re truly looking for a replacement, this is the one to get. It’s currently number one in Apple’s App Store, so those many people can’t all be wrong. What sets Fly Birdie from Flappy Bird is that in the first one you are given three lives, which you are going to waste faster than you can say Flappy Bird.

2. Flappy Plane

You have to tap the screen to guide a little plane forward. It’s not rocket science, but it’s not meant to be that. Instead of the pipes in Flappy Bird, you’ve got a bunch of floating bars you need to avoid. When you advance, you’re shown the miles you’ve traveled. The great thing about this game is that you’re able to choose a difficulty level, unlike Flappy Bird, which is pretty neat. But the design is really bad and it truly does seem like it’s the worst Flappy Bird replacements on the market. If you’re a Flappy Bird addict, this game could satisfy your appetite, but not for long.

What are your thoughts on this matter? Do you miss Flappy Bird so much, that you’re going to download these Flappy Bird replacements? Which one looks more appealing to you? If you’ve played any of the reviewed games, leave us your review in the comment section below. We’d love to hear about it!
