Hyundai Iron Man Suit
Hyundai is building the Iron Man suit; an exoskeleton meant for transportation that looks more like a “suit” from Aliens, Halo, Iron Man or The Edge of Tomorrow.
The “Iron Man suit” is actually what the developers called it on their Korean-language blog.
The South Korean carmaker giant is developing a “wearable robot” that can increase labor capabilities and prevent work injuries and strains on workers body.
With the help of the metal skeleton, a person can do the heavy lifting of approximately 100 kilos.
The South Korean Iron Man also moves rapidly enough for soldiers. Soldiers can endure long campaigns and more around quickly while wearing it. According to the developers, the soldiers can add to it up over 50 kilograms and not feel the weight at all over long distances.
It is designed to help senior citizens and the disabled as well. But the ultimate and declared the goal of the company is to use the metal suit for transportation and as part of the “Next Mobility” program “that will lead to the free movement of people and things.”
We don’t yet know what that means but it sounds like their plan is to make us push our human boundaries one step further and we like.
Hyundai plans to commercialize the exoskeleton currently in the making, but the date has not yet been disclosed.
As others have pointed out, this Iron Man suit is probably the successor of Hyundai Life Caring ExoSkeleton, an evolution of the H-LEX platform – a technology meant to assist people with different disabilities.
This exoskeleton move is already happening all over the world, with the U.S. Defense Department’s DARPA program (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) and other companies like BMW and Panasonic having already developed their versions of a “metal suit”.
Last month, the carmaker giant announced a partnership with Cisco as part of an alliance to build “computer on wheels” and probably enter the – soon to be saturated – self-driving cars technology and market.
Nonetheless, we would like to know more about the technology used to build the Iron Man suit and on top of that, the answer to the most important question: how much will it cost? Only Tony Stark would afford it? Let us know what you think!
