Petition Urging HTC to Support the One S on the Move

July 5, 2013 By David Crozier Leave a Comment

Owners of the HTC One S no doubt were shocked about HTC’s decision of discontinuing support for the One S a few days ago. Declaring that this device will not exceed beyond Sense 4 or Android 4.1.1, HTC has decided to move ahead and support only the latest devices. This again contradicts their earlier stand when HTC had promised the latest version of Android as well as the Sense UI for the One S device. None had been expecting such a volte face from HTC and One S owners are naturally unhappy. They have now resorted to initiate a petition to this effect at Change.org which they hope will be convincing enough for HTC to change their stance on this.

HTC-One-S

The move on part of HTC is even more intriguing since the device is just a year old and is still quite capable. Although it wasn’t meant to be a top contender, still it was a flagship device from HTC of the One series. Many users are still covered under the carrier contract terms with the device and HTC should indeed support it as well as also generate loyalty for the brand. Though HTC’s latest One may be class apart but still situations like this are bound to haunt the company in near future.

As petitions are generally purgative rather than being quite effective, HTC should stick to their vow of supporting One S. whereas if this is a plan to get the users to update the device to the latest One S, it can easily back fire. The old One S which is well forgotten by HTC isn’t forgotten by its loyal fans. The petition is still expecting to get 273 signatures. Therefore the fans of the HTC One S are being urged to put in their signature to support their device, in order for HTC to respond in their favor.

HTC One S Won’t Get Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean or Sense UI Updates

July 3, 2013 By Nicholas Anderton Leave a Comment

In what can be termed as a disappointing piece of news for owners of the HTC One S smartphone, the company has announced there will be no Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update meted out to the device. That’s not all for the said device will also be devoid of the Sense 5 UI that now does duty in the latest HTC smartphones. HTC had launched the One S last year along with the One X and runs on Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean.

HTC admitted such a development is not expected to go down well with their loyal user base but chose to soothe ruffled feathers by stating the One S has been designed to be ‘optimized with our amazing camera and audio experiences’, the press statement revealed.

This can be seen as the official seal of confirmation to the revelation made a few days ago by HTC France on their company page stating it’s the end of the road for the HTC One S as far as future Android updates are concerned. The company will still be coming out with the occasional bug fixes or updates aimed at enhancing performance of the device. However, this certainly will be bad news for owners of the One X as the device was launched just last year and hoped they will surely be provided the update to the latest Android version.

Also this comes in the wake of the company itself faltering amidst increasing competition from the likes of Samsung and Apple. Also, this comes amidst news of Samsung making all efforts at releasing the latest Android and TouchWiz update for its 2012 flagship devices namely the Galaxy S3 and the Note 2. Pretty surprising HTC chose to do otherwise with its smartphone which it had launched just last year.

HTC One S Awaits Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and Sense 5

May 23, 2013 By David Crozier Leave a Comment

A Sense 5 update as well as the update to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean has been due for owners of the HTC One S though unfortunately, HTC has not made it known when it intends to release the same updates. When the HTC One was announced, the company has stated it will release the Sense 5 update soon for a number of devices which includes HTC One X, HTC One X+, HTC Butterfly and the HTC One S. However, the prospect of the first three devices getting the Sense 5 update does seem bright while it’s even better for the HTC Butterfly since it is slated to also get the Android Jelly Bean update as well along with the Sense 5 update. What’s even better is that the updates are likely to hit the scene in May itself.

HTC-One-S

What’s more, an unofficial tipster, @LlabTooFeR too has confirmed the updates for the HTC One X and the One X+. @LlabTooFeR is kwon for his accurate leaks and has stated the HTC One X will be updated by the end of this summer itself.

Unfortunately, things are a lot more cloudy for the HTC One S as there has been no information as to when the device will get the update to Sense 5 and Jelly Bean, either officially or unofficially. The best that @LlabTooFeR has to state for the One S is that it ‘might’ get the Sense 5 and Jelly Bean update though can’t commit to a specific time frame.

So the way things stand right now is that the update is no where in sight for the One S, so much that some have even starting doubting if the update will ever be made available. Ket’s hope HTC clears the air soon enough.

HTC One S Android 4.2 Update Not yet Confirmed – Sense 5 In The Same Region?

May 13, 2013 By Lori David Leave a Comment

An insider recently confirmed that many HTC devices were going to get the Sense 5 and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. But when we speak of the HTC One S, these updates have not yet been confirmed.

htc-evo-4g-lte-v-htc-one-x-640x480

These unofficial updates have been confirmed by a developer from inside HTC as well. He claims these updates are coming out for many HTC devices such as HTC One X, HTC One X+, Droid DNA, HTC Butterfly, HTC EVO 4G LTE, and the Droid Incredible 4G LTE. No news on when these updates will be out though but it is most likely going to be after the HTC One.

Even though we can’t get any confirmed news on the updates for the HTC One S, there is absolutely no reason to rule it out. HTC did announce that the global version of the One S was going to have Sense 5 features. The only problem is that HTC has backed out from promises many times in the past. This is just a sign that any updates for the One S could be very far away, especially for owners from the United States.

This is evident from the fact that T-Mobile subscribers have just got the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for the HTC One S. This just means that the Sense 5 and Android 4.2 updates won’t be available any time soon. Even when it comes to the global version, they might not be out any time soon.

Even though the source is a trusted one who hasn’t been wrong in the past, we can’t really confirm whether or not the updates will be out any time soon until there is an official announcement by the company. Even after that, we can’t really be certain until it actually does come out.

HTC One S Problems – Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update Disturbs Battery functionality

May 7, 2013 By Brandi McCants Leave a Comment

Much to the dismay of HTC One S users, the long-awaited Android update has interrupted battery life and disrupted user experience. While the update included a range of impressive features, along with the upgrade from 2011 Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to the recent Android 4.1 Jelly Bean version, it has also resulted in quicker draining of battery life, among other issues.

TMoNews draws attention to a forum discussion, which reveals that HTC One S owners who downloaded the update from T-Mobile are experiencing abnormal battery drain. Users say that the update has disturbed the GPS functionality, which in turn has affected battery life. They say that the GPS continues to function when the phone is turned off, resulting in battery drain. Other users, who did not find the battery life that bad, say that there is a noticeable drop in battery life after the update.

T-Mobile released the sizeable 675 MB update to Jelly Bean, along with a host of apps and features, including Google Now, Project Butter, Face Unlock, updated camera, advanced notifications, security patches, and a few bug fixes. The update was expected to provide a more responsive user interface, better search features, and an overall better user experience.  Users were asked to connect their HTC One S to a stable Wi-Fi connection to perform the upgrade.

Generally, battery life problems are inevitable after major upgrades to Android phones. But, this time, the severity of the issue seeks a fix. Though complaints relate to a faulty GPS, there could be more issues at play. T-Mobile will probably come up with another update if the problem is rampant. However, users have no other go, but to wait to see if T-Mobile will release a software update to manage the issue.

HTC One S Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Update On T-Mobile Undulating Now

April 27, 2013 By Micheal Baptiste Leave a Comment

The much awaited HTC One S Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update has been finally released by T Mobile. The beast may now be augmented to Android Jelly Bean from Android Sandwich, Ice Cream 4.0. This update is offering specs of Android’s previous Jelly Bean program.
htc-one-s-jelly-bean_teaser
Weeks back, it was declared that HTC is examining this update prior to making an official release. HTC consumed ample time to initiate this update. Since its initial announcement, weeks have gone by, reducing the warmth of rumors surrounding it. But recently, T Mobile has gratified customers with this beneficial update of Android 4.0 to Android 4.1 in HTC One S.

This software update is a Wi-Fi package, so boot up the router and start downloading it. You can navigate to settings from menu, then about phone, then to software update and finally check to start the process of downloading. However, if you are nervous to go this deep into your phone, you can wait for a software update notification to hit your phone and then follow the link accordingly to begin the download procedure. Alongside splendid features of Jelly Bean, this update will alter your handset’s software version to 3.14.531.11.

T Mobile has announced that this update may consume 10-20 minutes to get downloaded, requesting HTC One S users to be patient while the download is on. The package measures about 675 MB and considering its length, it is suggested that you download it through Wi-Fi.

It is not yet known when T Mobile will start forwarding an MMS with a link to the software update. But for those too curious and confident on this update, just go to your software update option under about phone and check for the link. If you can download it, your handset will be considerably energized.
