Apple wants us to drive smarter and safer and announced their new gadget that will be available later this year. The new gimmick from Apple is going to be exhibited on Mercedes, Ferrari and Volvo at the Geneva International Auto Show where all three cars will have CarPlay on them.
Apple CarPlay is actually a replica of an iOS put on the touchscreen display of your car, with extensive voice command included. The main focus is to make it easier and safer for the drivers, without any useless interface elements and most importantly, no keyboards. The intelligent coding supposedly will simplify a lot of actions. CarPlay can anticipate upcoming appointments and meetings just by looking at the emails and calendar and it will direct you to those destinations. Furthermore, the cool Siri function reads to you your text messages and you can dictate the response. You can also make calls using the voice command.
Apple CarPlay cool features
A key feature will be the Maps service from Apple, that shows you the routes on the car’s screen and gives you vocal directions. CarPlay also features the coolest music apps at the moment like Spotify and iHeartRadio.
Apple made public that CarPlay was designed for a better and safer driving experience. Greg Joswiak, the Apple vice president said: “iPhone users always want their content at their fingertips and CarPlay lets drivers use their iPhone in the car with minimised distraction.”
It seems that Apple (no surprises here) is competing with Google’s Open Automotive Alliance, an initiative that was announced at the CES trade show in January which is an Android in-car system.
Apple CarPlay will also be made available on other car manufacturers like Ford, Honda, Nissan, BMW, Kia, Mitsubishi, Subaru and it works with Lightning iPhones like 5s, 5c and iPhone 5.
