iOS 6.1.4 update on iPhone 5 – Lets Evaluate the New Apple iOS Version

May 9, 2013 By Micheal Baptiste 1 Comment

The fifth generation iPhone 5 has won a million geeky hearts. Released in September 2012, the smartphone remains one of the finest ones in the industry till now. Samsung, HTC, LG were worth encircling it within a stiff competitive sphere, but iPhone 5 has withstood them all with its ravishing specs. With strong Wi-Fi connectivity and boastful 4G LTE network, the phone is fit for urban life. The flagship weighs only 112 gm and has been slimmed down from its predecessor. Its crystal-clear display is one of the greatest advantages.

Overall, the phone possesses core modules that may initiate a convenient user experience.  Recently, Apple has rolled out an OS update for the flagship, which can upgrade its OS to iOS 6.1.4 from the previous one. This upgrade does not bring numerous specs with it, the advancement is limited. Probably, it was Apple’s trial over something. It only initiates an audio enhancement for the phone. The phone is capacitated with 40 hours of music streaming without any interruption and so the audio enhancement is certainly beneficial.

Stabilized performance with upgraded iOS 6.1.4

Apple remains one of the finest smartphone manufacturers in the phablet industry. iPhone 5’s capacitive touch screen, 16M colors display featured with LED-backlit IPS LCD makes it stand out amongst contemporary smartphones. Apple always tries something new and its innovative tactics never fail to surprise fans. The phone runs on iOS 6, which is upgradable to iOS 6.1.4. After you update your iPhone 5 to iOS 6.1.4, you will notice an improvement in the phone’s performance. Of course, no matter how confined, you can feel an increased stability in your phone’s performance. No on-screen customization icons would come up with the update, nor will it boost the display resolution. Apple has rolled out just a simple update, better than its predecessor by .1.

No update in camera specs and battery life with iOS 6.1.4

Apple seems to believe in quality rather than in quantity and extensions. An 8MP camera with a resolution of 3264*2448 pixels featuring autofocus, LED flash, HD image and video recording, face detection, touch focus, Panorama and HDR is exciting. The phone possesses Li-Po 1440 mAh battery (5.45 Wh) that is non-removable. The battery is energetic apportioning a lengthy standby time of 225 hours on both 2G and 3G.

iPhone5Camera

The iOS 6.1.4 update does not bring any extraordinary alteration in the phone, except for an audio profile for speakerphone operation. You can constantly play music for 40 hours on your iPhone 5. The battery life in iPhone 5 was already quite convincing; the iOS 6.1.4 upgrade would not let you feel much difference in the battery zone than what the 6.1.3 did (only if you upgraded it) or the primitive iOS 6 itself.

The beast is speedy with its iOS 6.1.4

The upgradable and advanced iOS is certainly powerful and user-friendly. You can browse and access data with high speed: about 42 Mbps on DC-HSDPA, 5.76 Mbps on HSUPA, about 21 Mbps on HSDPA, 3.1 Mbps on EV-DO Rev and strikingly 100 Mbps on LTE. The update seems to have stabilized the Wi-Fi a bit. Though there has been no official notification on this spec, at least it does not slow down the wireless fiction network or interrupts it. The phone features a convenient and prompt Wi-Fi connectivity that does not get disrupted while you are putting it on. Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n with Wi-Fi hotspot and dual band allots you an implausible WLAN experience. iOS 6.1.4 is reportedly bug free and is lightly speedier than its predecessor.

ios-6.1.4

Pros of the new iOS 6.1.4 update on iPhone 5

The update is an over-the-air (OTA) update. It is likely to be available for download on your iPhone 5 via iTunes. It is small in size, about 11.5MB, and thus quick to download. An additional audio profile for speakerphone comes with this update.

Cons of the new update

The update does not bring anything exclusively innovative and does not initiate any enhancements over interface.

Apple iPhone 5 was one of most awaited smartphones of 2012. It was released in September 2012 and observed a high sales rate, worldwide. Its major competitors include the Blackberry Z10, Samsung Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 2, HTC One, Sony Xperia Z, Nokia Lumia 920 and Google Nexus 4. But still iPhone 5 has successfully withstood the restless competition and managed to grab a prominent place in a million hearts. Apple is supposed to bring out the iPhone 5S and iPad 5 mini this year after fall. Buzzes are all round the iPhone 6, which may appear next year, due to delay in launch of iPhone 5S. Apple 6 is likely to feature a much powerful iOS 7, which is expected to be ways ahead in performance level than the iOS 6.1.4 and bring along a plenty of customization alternatives.

iOS 6.1.2 Update Problems, Bugs Reported from iPhone 5, iPhone 4s, iPad 4, iPod Touch Users

March 11, 2013 By Nicholas Anderton Leave a Comment

iOS 6.1.2 update was rolled out by Apple some time in middle of February for the iPad, iPhone and iPod owners. The aim was to get rid of the bug related to Exchange battery drain that had been frustration the owners ever since But ever since the update, there have been criticisms about several bugs that the users are experiencing, even after latest update.

The first big update was rolled out at the end of January that brought with it a number of new features such as new lock screen music control, visible button for reporting Apple Map bugs as well as a new feature for Siri.

iPad and iPhone owners are observing abnormal battery drain with their devices while Phone 4S owners are experiencing 3G connectivity issues. A flaw was also observed in the lock screen security. Emergency Call button allowed unwanted access to the contacts and photos in the iPhone due to a bug.

Issues related to 3G were tackled by Apple quickly within a few days after the release of iOS 6.1 by rolling out iOS 6.1.1. iOS 6.1.2 was pushed by Apple, in February to tackle the issue of battery drain. However, no fixes were offered for the security.

The iOS 6.1.2 update was downloaded by millions of iOS device owners but it seems some issues still need to be sorted out and some of the bugs are still there. The battery drain issue with iOS 6.1 was use to a calendar bug inside of Exchange. Many iPhone 4S owners had to cordon off their data due to iOS 6.1.2.

Many Exchange users are facing serious battery drain and worse even while there are promises from iOS 6.1.2 to fix the issue. There have been complaints from many iPhone and iPad owners reporting that their Exchange issues have not been fixed.

Many iOS 6.1.2 users have claimed that viewing and saving photos was working fine but they are unable to view the messaged photos as the software kept hanging up on the re-size screen.

Now that users are having problems with iOS 6.1.2, they are more likely to look forward to the iOS 6.1.3 update for help and this may take several weeks.

iOS 6.1 update on iPhone, iPad, iPad Mini – iCloud Features Will tempt you to JailBreak

February 13, 2013 By David Crozier Leave a Comment

Apple recently released the biggest ever update to its iOS 6 that was launched in September 2012. The update – iOS 6.1 – is something which iPhone, iPad and iPad users have been waiting for quite some time. Why? Well, I suppose many just wanted to go to the next level, while some have been looking to solve the issues associated with previous updates. The latest upgrade improves its predecessor with some additional features, bug fixes and providing support for LTE. So, how is iOS 6.1 going to help your iDevice? Let’s explore the details.

iOS 6.1

Positives

  • No need of Mac or PC for set up
  • iCloud backup and recovery
  • Broadens LTE support
  • Allows Facebook and Twitter integration

Not so positives

  • Few features work only with latest hardware

iOS 6.1 installation

Setting up

If you already have iOS 6 in your iDevice, download the upgrade via iTunes or over the air. For new devices, set up as new, or simply restore from iTunes or iCloud Backup. Now you’re ready to sync apps, music, photos, etc. between your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with Wi-Fi via iTunes.

Home Screen

If you’re an iOS user, you’ll be familiar with the home screen, i.e., background and apps. And, now the 3D imagery and info have gotten better. Apple has added new lock screen music controls, i.e., just double tap your home button on your lockscreen while playing music to see controls on the top of the display.

There’s Passbook, an app exclusive to iPhone and iPod touch, to streamline processes for passes and tickets. With it, you don’t have to hand over a paper coupon or ticket at the store or theatre, instead your device will show the relevant item when you go there. Of course, it will work only for companies supporting the feature. Airbnb, American Express Pass, Starbucks and American Airlines are a few of the companies that support this feature now.

ios-6-phone-app-2

Calling options

That’s about more flexibility in managing incoming calls that you want to decline. When you get a call, just swipe upwards to see your options. Instead of declining the call, you may reply via text message or create a reminder for follow up.  The update also broadens LTE support.

Siri

Siri, the voice control software used for messaging, making phone calls and scheduling appointments, will now allow U.S. users to buy movie tickets via Fandango with the personal assistant app. It recognizes a host of languages – English, French, Korean, Spanish, Japanese and German to name a few. I can now use Siri to get sports scores in addition to finding local restaurants.

Bug fixes

Apple seems to have addressed Wi-Fi issues, ensuring that the connection is stronger and more stable. Complaints about random rebooting seem to have been solved. Now it’s easier to report issues on Apple Maps using a more prominent button.

iCloud features

iCloud, the web-based storage and synching feature, lets you access FindMyiPhone and FindMyFriends features. The former lets you lock you device if you’ve lost or misplaced it. The latter is especially useful if you have iOS users on a map and want to share location info. Or perhaps, just keep track of your children when they are out!  The Sharing feature and facility to integrate Facebook and Twitter are welcome updates.

ios 6.1 jailbreak

Jailbreak

And, for those who are keen on a jailbreak for the updated platform, there seem to be options that require installation via a computer instead of an over-the-air download. Jailbreaking expands the device capabilities, letting users install software from other sources instead of relying on iTunes App Store alone.

Wrap up

In a nutshell, the update allows faster downloads, better iTunes Match and a great new way to buy movies for U.S. users. A few features work only with latest hardware, but the additions and tweaks are worthwhile. So, if you have a compatible device, I consider that the upgrade is a must-have. And, all those updates do not eat up your iPhone’s battery life.

iOS 6.1 Jailbreak Is Coming This Sunday, Lets Prepare For It

February 6, 2013 By Brandi McCants 1 Comment

The hackers have done it again. They have come out with a jailbreak program that can be used by iOS 6 users. Now it will be possible to access programs other than that on the App store. Even the apple apps that are difficult to access will be within reach.

This is one jailbreak that the hackers were guarding to release it at an appropriate time. Although in the offing, nobody had any idea when the hackers would strike. The hackers kept this under wraps so that they could release it and catch Apple unaware.
wordthumb.php

The hackers used EvasiOnJailbreak.com to release this utility. Within minutes, millions of eager users were trying to download it.
The program is suitable for iOS above 6 but works best with iOS 6. The program can be used by most Apple devices which include Ipads, Iphones and Ipods 4 and 5 .

Users of Mac’s OS X with Windows Vista, XP and 7 and Linux have access to this program. You do not need to go through installing the jailbreak each time you start the computer which makes it an untethered program. It allows you to retain original functions on your device.

It is possible now for Apple users to use other cellular network and get detached from Apple’s network.
As soon as the hackers released their jailbreak program, trouble started as many users were reaching out for it. Users suddenly found that the weather app on the iPhone was not responding and could not log onto Cydia, the unofficial iOS software store.

The hackers have come out with a similar program earlier with iOS 5 and 6. This time round, users have found the jailbreak a simpler and faster process to use.

If you want to restore your phone to the original, you can use the Device Firmware Update mode.
