Blackberry Trade-Up: Buys Your Iphone for $550

November 26, 2014 By Daniel Giordano Leave a Comment

Blackberry buys your iphone for $550

After a painfully long term restructuring, Blackberry is back in the game with a new high tech smartphone. But is it really? The latest marketing campaign sends mixed signals. One would be that Blackberry wants to bribe iPhone users into switching to its latest device, Blackberry Passport.

The Canadian company announced the start of Trade-Up. Give them your iPhone and you will receive a sum of money. If you decide to buy Passport, Blackberry will top the initial sum with an extra $150. The offer starts on Dec. 1 and lasts until February 13.

The offer depends on your current iPhone model, memory size, and the carrier. Starting with iPhone 4S, for which you could receive up to $90, the offer goes up to iPhone 6, for which Blackberry will pay you up to $400. Counting the extra $150, Blackberry buys your iphone for $550.

Passport is now priced at $499, so you could basically trade an iPhone for the Blackberry device. The offer stands only if you buy Passport from Amazon or Blackberry’s online shop. However, it seems unlikely that the average iPhone 6 user will give up hers or his long-awaited Apple smartphone.

But Blackberry Passport is a strangely attractive device. Hardware-wise, the smartphone announced in June and released in September, is quite competitive. Among its main features, we find a quad-core 2.26 Ghz Snapdragon 801 coupled with 3 GB of RAM and an Adreno 330. It’s not exactly the latest technology, but it is close enough.

Besides its decent main specs, Passport has two special characteristics. One is represented by its square screen. The 4.5 inches display sports a 1440 X 1440 resolution, probably the only smartphone with this configuration. Blackberry claims that you will read documents more comfortably on the new device.

A second interesting characteristic is the three-row old school physical keyboard placed at the bottom. While writing, a fourth row containing punctuation marks appears on the screen. Some people may find the feature appealing.

Because of its odd display dimensions, Passport is strikingly different from most other smartphones on the market. At 5.04 inches long, it far shorter than most current flagship smartphones, but its 3.56 inches width makes it the most square shaped smartphone on the market.

Analysts are split on the matter. Most believe that Blackberry is just trying to get attention, but the strategy may provide some results, especially if owners of older iPhones decide to answer the call.

iPhone 6 Pulls Out People’s Hair, New Scandal Says

October 7, 2014 By Daniel Giordano Leave a Comment

Ever since Apple released their latest toys, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus, many people have tried to put it down. Some say it’s too big, others say it doesn’t bring anything new and some say it does or doesn’t bend too much. You know what they say, you can’t please anyone and the naysayers will always complain. No matter how good a product is, they will always manage to find something to talk about. The latest iPhone 6 scandal involves hair. It sounds weird but it’s true. Many have complained that the new Apple phone pulls their hair out when it’s close to the hair.

iphone 6 hairgate

The naysayers might say that they’re pulling their own hair out of frustration that the new iPhone 6 is not their dream phone. This is different. Apparently, some say that the thin seam between the body of the phone and the display glass is pulling out long hairs and beard hairs, too. It sounds funny but if you think about, if this is not just a joke, it could bring serious damage to Apple’s reputation. Some complained that when trying to make calls with the iPhone 6, their hair gets caught and when they try to move the phone away from their face, long hairs are pulled out.

People on Twitter are already making fun of this saying that the new iPhone 6 not only has a NFC but it functions perfectly as a shaver, too. Others say that they’ve experienced the hair-pulling phone themselves but didn’t pay much attention to it. There are others who say that this didn’t happen to them, yet. Maybe this happens only to people with longer hair and beards?

A Twitter user says:

“Anyone else getting beard hairs pulled by the iPhone 6/Plus? It catches my scruff in the seam and yanks it during calls. #hurts #beardgate”

Have you been a victim of the hair-pulling iPhone 6 so far? If you have, please tell us what that’s all about because we’re really, really curious to see if this rumor is for real or people are just joking about it.

The iPhone 6 is Now Available in China

September 30, 2014 By Micheal Baptiste Leave a Comment

The new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are a massive success. Apple has broken all previous records, after selling more than 10 million iPhones in the opening weekend. What’s truly impressive is that it managed to reach this number without the help of China, as iPhone sales have been put on sale until the government green-lights the new Apple device. Good news! iPhone 6 is now available in China!

iPhone 6 is Now Available in China

Apple is getting ready to sell some more iPhones and break some more records, because the Chinese government has just green lighted the sale of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in China. It has been granted regulatory approval to sell its smartphones after addressing a multitude of security risks that were all concerned with personal data. Apple will not be giving away personal data of its Chinese customers to any other entity outside China.

State-owned media outlets were the first who expressed concern about the release of personal information, but now everything was settled between the Chinese government and Apple and the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are scheduled to go on sale on October 17, with preorders being available starting October 10.

iPhone 6 is Now Available in China

Even if the new Apple smartphones weren’t officially allowed in China, this didn’t stop the black market from doing what it does best. The smartphones were up for grabs for anyone who was willing to pay $1,000 more than what Apple stores are selling the devices for.

Apple has some serious competitors in China, such as Samsung and also the local smartphone maker, Xiaomi. The Galaxy Note 4, Samsung’s latest device, went on sale in China on Monday.

What are your thoughts on the fact that iPhone 6 is now available in China? Are you living in China and are excited to get your hands on a new iPhone? Share your comments with us in the section below.

Viber App is a Must-Have for iOS and Android

September 15, 2014 By Daniel Giordano Leave a Comment

Until now, the most popular video calling technology was Skype. We all have it, we’ve all used it at least once in our life. Skype, move over because there is a new star in town. The Viber app is not actually new but the new version, Viber Version 5.0 allows you to make video calling from you Android or iOS device. In the past, the Viber app started as an application that provided text messages and voice calls. Later, it added a video calling feature but only for desktops. With the updated version of Viber app you can make video calls from your Android or iPhone 6, both local and internationally, of course. It works on PC to PC and also from PC to mobile.

The new Viber Version 5.0 is compatible with Android smart devices 4.0 or above and the new iOS 6. You can use it to share video calls between your desktop and a mobile. You can also make a call to a landline but this will cost you.

The new Viber app uses a Voice Over IP technology which can deliver voice communication and also multimedia sessions over the IP networks. The Viber app was initially designed for smartphones where the users could make free calls and send messages.

To use the new Viber app on your PC you must add your personal telephone number in order to connect to the system.

Viber CEO said that:

“We’re delighted to bring video calling to mobile. Now you can make video calls from your phone as well as on the desktop, they can always talk in the way that’s most convenient for them, wherever they happen to be”, Marco.

Visa Says Apple Pay is a Step Forward for Online Payments

September 12, 2014 By Mary Duncan Leave a Comment

This week Apple has unveiled its latest products: the much-anticipated iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, the Apple Watch and a new payment system called Apple Pay. The new system works with near field communication (NFC) technology and it is in partnership with the most important credit card companies like Visa, MasterCard and American Express. The new Apple Pay will also be available for a number of retailers in the US.

The credit card giant Visa said that the new payment system from Apple is a “pivotal moment” for retailers who are looking for an intuitive shopping experience.

Apple Pay is only available in the US for now and has made partnerships with more than 220,000 retailers so far. Although the new payment system has been received with acclaim there are many retailers that are not yet compatible with the NFC technology, which means that one cannot use Apple Pay for payments in many stores. Hopefully, this will change in the near future and most of the retailers will implement the new Apple Pay system.

Jon White, Visa Europe representative said that Apple Pay will encourage many retailers to go with the NFC payment. He went on and praised Apple’s new innovative system saying that Apple Pay is a high quality software. He said that,

“Apple’s entry into the mobile payments ecosystem is a great booster for everyone. Clearly Apple entering into this space is a great incentive for retailers who haven’t got on board with contactless acceptance. Hopefully, that sends a message to everyone thinking about smart, intuitive commerce experiences… [and] starts to inspire, and get marketers thinking about what Apple’s implementation will look like.”

Sad News for Music Lovers: RIP iPod Classic

September 11, 2014 By Lori David Leave a Comment

After many years of enjoying 160GB of memory, which meant approximately 40,000 songs, Apple has finally decided to put to sleep the iPod Classic. The innovative “walkman” first appeared in 2001 and since then it has brought joy to myriads of music lovers. It’s a sad day indeed but we’re pretty certain that Apple will come up with something even more groundbreaking to replace the iPod Classic.

ipod classic discontinued

How did the iPod disappear from this world? Unlike the way it was launched, the disappearance wasn’t that fancy. Actually tech lovers were the only ones to notice that the iPod Classic webpage was quietly shut down. Why this secrecy, we would like to know. The only thing left on the webpage was a link to the iPod Touch. The decision to kill the iPod Classic was put into effect on Tuesday when Apple launched their new iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch.

RIP iPod Classic

The iPod Classic was the last device from Apple to use the click-wheel, which was first seen on the iPod Mini back in 2004. This simple feature reinvented the way people listened to music. The little wheel replaced a lot of buttons on a usual music player.

Tim Cook paid a subtle tribute to the iPod Classic at the latest Apple conference on Tuesday saying, “It turns out, with every revolutionary product that Apple has created, a breakthrough in user-interface was required,” he said. “With the Mac, we introduced the mouse. The click-wheel on the iPod. And with iPhone, multi-touch gave us the ability to interact with a beautiful canvas of photos or video or music.”

It’s a sad day for music lovers everywhere because of iPod Classic disappearing from the market. Fortunately, his other brothers are still out there bringing joy to our ears.

iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus Finally Unveiled, Specifications

September 10, 2014 By Micheal Baptiste Leave a Comment

The wait is over! Apple has revealed their new toys on Tuesday, the 10th of September. The new iPhone models are the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The first detail that strikes you when you first see these two babies live is the size. The 6 Plus is larger than the iPhone 6 but both new models are bigger than the existing iPhone models. We still haven’t figured it out if that’s a good or a bad thing. The iPhone 6 is super slim, 6.99 mm deep, which makes it the slimmest handset Apple ever created. The 6Plus is 2mm thicker.

iphone 6 specs

The new iPhone 6 comes with a 4.7 inches screen, while the 6 Plus has a 5.5 inches screen. Compared to the 4 inch screen of the previous iPhone 5S, the new ones are bigger. The new models have rounded sides, compared to the flat ones of the 5S. The screen resolution of the new iPhone is 1,334×750 pixels, Apple calling it Retina HD. The 6Plus will have a full HD resolution of 1,920×1,080 pixels. You remember all the rumors about the sapphire crystal screen. Unfortunately, they were just rumors and the new iPhone 6 comes with a ion-strengthened screen protection. The camera is also improved, with a sensor of 8MP, a new focusing system and a new slow-motion video at 240 frames per second. The iPhone 6 Plus comes with optical stabilization.

Both new iPhones will include a built-in barometer and they will both be available in the UK starting with September 19. The prices have not yet been confirmed but we will keep you updated with any news on this issue.

What do you think about the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus? Do you think they live up to the hype that has been built around them in the last couple of months? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.

iPhone 6 Revealed, First Impressions

September 10, 2014 By Nicholas Anderton Leave a Comment

The moment we’ve all been waiting for is finally here. This Tuesday was the big day for Apple’s new announcements regarding their new goodies. They unveiled iPhone 6 and a new smartwatch but in this article we want to talk a little about our first impressions on the iPhone 6.

iphone 6 revealed

One of the first things we’ve noticed about Apple’s latest star (although there have been plenty of rumors and speculations) is the size of this beauty. iPhone 6 measures 4.7 inches diagonally and its twin brother, iPhone 6 Plus is 5.5 inches long. Don’t worry, it’s nothing to worry about because if you prefer the old size, iPhone 5 S is still available. We loved the extra screen space that the iPhone 6 has because we can do a lot more things with it, especially on those long commutes: read more emails, you can view bigger pictures and also type more efficiently. Moreover, the new screen is brighter and at a higher resolution than the existing iPhone models. The iPhone 6 Plus looks like a big leap forward and people will likely appreciate this larger iPhone.

iPhone 6 Revealed, bigger than iPhone 5.

It looks like the thumbs will have a lot to do on the new iPhones. On the iPhone 5 and the 5 S a hand was enough in order to operate it. A thumb was enough to navigate the whole screen. It looks like with the new iPhone 6 you can only reach half of the screen with your thumb. With the iPhone 6 Plus you can only reach a third of the screen. The 6 Plus is a little smaller than the iPad Mini, which makes it harder to grip tightly. If you are a skinny jeans lover, it might not fit into your pockets, due to its size.

As soon as we have more info about the iPhone 6 we will get back at you. What do you think about the new iPhone 6? Have you had the chance to see one in person?

iPhone 6 Latest Rumors: Is It Waterproof?

September 9, 2014 By Daniel Giordano Leave a Comment

There are less than 14 hours until the moment all techies have been waiting for, the announcements, the official announcements that is, of Apple’s latest iPhone 6. We are literally biting our nails because there have been so many rumors, theories and opinions about this super phone that we don’t know what to believe anymore. And we’re pretty sure we’re not the only ones who agree on this.

iphone 6

The release date at least is settled: September 19. On this legendary date, both the 5.5 inch iPhone and the 4.7 inch one will go on sale. Mark that down in your personal calendar. As you know, Apple always releases its phones on Friday mornings so the iPhone 6 is no exception. One thing boggles us, though; will both iPhone models be in stores on this date? Some believe that only the 4.7 inch one will be for sale on the 19th of September. The 5.5 inch model will hit the stores later on.

The speculations regarding the features and the specifications of the iPhone 6 are all over the tech sites. Some of the most intriguing ones say the new iPhone will have a sapphire display. Others say that it will be both water and shatter resistant. We really look forward to hear and see more about this shatter proof feature as it will be something we’ll all benefit from. One thing we all phone lovers have in common is that we always seem to drop it and break the screen. Apple is working to resolve that with their latest iPhone 6.

iPhone 6 Latest Rumors: Waterproof and Shatter Proof

Will all these rumors and theories we don’t really know what to think anymore. One thing’s certain: iPhone 6 will not disappoint. We’re positive about that.

What are your thoughts on the upcoming iPhone 6? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
