Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Leica, happy birthday to you! The famous Leica camera has turned 100 and it’s celebrating by launching a totally new camera system. The new camera was inspired by a design partnership between Leica and Audi and the unibody Leica T model features an APS-C sensor.
The new Leica T camera starts out as an interchangeable 3.5 pound aluminum lens camera, a unibody that is milled by a machine and then finished by hand. Leica said that the manual finishing takes about 45 minutes per camera. After the whole process is complete, the 3.5 pound aluminum camera is reduced to a frame of 3.35 ounces. The remaining aluminum is melted down and reused for other T-series Leica cameras.
The new Leica T camera is below the S and M series but above Leica X and Lux models. The new Leica T series have new lens mount and will have an adapter sold separately that will be compatible with Leica M glass. The new Leica camera with T-mount lenses has a 1.5 X focal-length multiplier. Its slick design comes with a new control layout and cool touchscreen interface. You can rearrange and delete settings thanks to the drag and drop touchscreen on the My Camera Menu. The APS-C sensor features a 16MP Sony chip and the new Leica T camera has Wi-Fi connectivity a new app that can be used as a remote-control, remote-live view and allows you to wirelessly share photos.
Other new design elements on the Leica T camera are the strap connectors which you can click and lock to the sides of the camera’s body without needing to buckle or tie anything. The new strap system was a result of the collaboration with Audi. You can choose the black strap or try the different colored straps that come separately.
