Google Nexus 5 Release Date to be Soon after LG Optimus G2 with Similar Features?

By Leave a Comment

Nexus 4 is believed to be one of the best as well as the most acclaimed smartphone to have been released by the search giant Google. In spite of its affordable cost and great, stylish design, the device is coming off its age and finding it difficult to make a mark among the other biggies in the run. We have already seen Samsung and HTC refresh their smartphone lineup, while Apple is in the process of doing so. Nokia recently launched the Lumia 1020 while LG is all set to launch its flagship device, the G2 in just a few weeks. So when do we expect to come across the release date of new Nexus 5 device? Well the writing is perhaps on the wall if only we care to see it.

LG-G2

Carphone Warehouse doesn’t have the Nexus 4 on its lists anymore in their online store. The web page dedicated to the device doesn’t exist any longer. This could mean two things, firstly there might be some trouble on the retailer’s web page or secondly, Carphone Warehouse might have stopped selling the said device. As this phenomenon has been taking place for quite some time now, one can expect that the device won’t be coming back.

Another telltale sign could be the impending launch of the LG G2 itself. LG had manufactured the Nexus 4 and is one device that shares a lot of commonality with the LG Optimus G launched last year. That’s not all since both the smartphones were also launched at around the same time. Now while LG is in the process of coming up with the new gen LG G2 device (rumored release date of LG Optimus G2 on August 7), experts opine that the Nexus 5 couldn’t be far off either. More so since its LG again that is being associated with the manufacturing of the next Nexus smartphone.

Further, the next Nexus 5 could also be seen having a similar build as the G2. The LG G2 is built around the Snapdragon 800 chip and though this is the only aspect that has been confirmed, the other tech bits that are being associated with the new G2 include 2 GB to 3GB of RAM, a 5.2 inch full HD IPS display, 2,700 mAh battery along with a 13 mp primary camera with optical image stabilization.

One can only expect form the current turn of events that the Nexus 5 might be on its way soon. And if you wish to know what it would be like, the G2 can be the answer.

LG Optimus G2 Release Date won’t Happent, it’s LG G2

By Leave a Comment

LG has announced some changes in its naming scheme which will be applicable to all its future smartphone releases. The company revealed they will be using the ‘G’ branding to refer exclusively to high end lifestyle devices they come up with. This comes when we are just weeks away from the company launching its new flagship device, the LG G2. Something of this sort was already being rumored, and it now stands confirmed. The same device that was shown in the ads and videos was referred to as the LG Optimus G2 and so we all were expecting Optimus G2 release date soon.

According to Dr. Park, CEO of LG, the company is aiming to raise the standard of its devices so that those with a G branding should be seen as synonymous with the highest standards of quality, offering the best user experience.

lg-g2

The lower end LG devices that come with a 4.3 display will be named as Vu from now on. However LG stated they have no plans of changing the names of the phones it has launched earlier.

Experts opine the new G2 could be launched on August 7, which if true means we are less than three weeks from the unveiling. In the meantime, many of the specifications of the device has come to the fore. These include several features that could turn out to be a game changer in the segment. These include a voice recognition system which remains active at all times and is unlike other devices that needs to be specifically switched on. This system will enable the user to use voice command whenever they wish to. It also comes with a custom built camera that allows one to click photos easily and quickly. Leaked imaged have also pointed towards the use of digital versions situated at the lower portion instead of physical keys.

According to LG’s YouTube page, it might also come with some form of optical image stabilization option. Experts also believe LG will be employing the latest Snapdragon 800 chip to ensure top of the line performance which no doubt will better the Sasmung Galaxy S4 or the HTC One, the two hottest selling Android smartphone right now both of which is powered by the Snapdragon 600 processor.

LG Optimus G2 Release Date Rumored For August 7

By Leave a Comment

For die-hard LG fans that are out to buy a flagship smartphone device of the South Korean company, they have two choices at hand. One can pick up the LG Optimus Pro which comes with a spec sheet that is quite similar to the other biggies in the market (including the Snapdragon 600 chip as well) or can as well wait for the next big thing to come from LG, the Optimus G2 or simply the LG G2.

LG-Optimus-G2

The smartphone has earlier been confirmed for a release in the third quarter though no specific dates have been made available so far. Of course, there has been no dearth of rumors and leaks doing the rounds, and the latest of them states that there is a high probability of the device coming before the end of summer, this year. In the light of recent developments, it is most likely that LG will be launching G2 in New York on August 7, 2013. However, before anyone gets too excited, there has been no official confirmation regarding the actual release date of the G2 so far.

Again, according to the rumors, it is expected that the device will be hitting shelves a few weeks later on August 20. The device will for the time being, be available in certain markets only, like Korea, after which it shall be available in other parts. This however contradicts the theory which had earlier mentioned that the handset is to release by the end of July, in Korea, so as to compete with Snapdragon 800 powered Galaxy S4 on the LTEA network.

Based on the information that has been gathered, the G2 comes with a 5.2 inch HD display, Snapdragon 800 quad core processor rated at 2.3 GHz, a 2 GB RAM along with Android Jelly Bean version 4.2.2. It is also supported by a 13 MP rear facing camera flanked with volumes keys and the physical power button, which it must be said makes for the most odd design. Whether such a design philosophy will make for a convenient user experience is already the topic of many a debate. However, we got to wait till the device finally reaches the consumers. Meanwhile, the package is completed with a 2700 mAh battery as well.

LG Announces World’s Slimmest Full HD LCD Panel, Rumored to be Used in G2

By Leave a Comment

LG is showing off a new full HD capable 5.2 inch LCD panel which it claims to be the thinnest in the world. The panels measures a measly 2.2 mm thick while having a bezel of just 2.3 mm. This makes it both the slimmest panel while also having the narrowest bezel among all full HD capable LCD panels currently available for use on mobile devices. This, the company stated will allow them for use in making mobile devices such as smartphones having the maximum viewing area which again is critical given the increasing role that smartphones are playing for multimedia consumption and such.

LG

Also, given the new LCD panel measures 5.2 inches, analysts have already started predicting the upcoming LG G2 smartphones could well be seen equipped with such panels. The South Korean conglomerate has also stated the new LCD panels are based on the advanced One-Glass-Solution (OGS) technology which it claims will ensure much better touchscreen experience. As per this tech, the touchscreen layer is placed directly along the underside of the cover glass, thereby combining the two layers. This negates the need to have a separate layer of touchscreen while also allows more light to pass through. Further, LG has also stated the new technique makes for a simpler manufacturing process and can also turn out to be cheaper.

Coming to the technical specifications, LG has stated the new LCD panel is able to deliver a maximum brightness of 535 nits, which is more than any full HD panel is capable of right now. Also, its 1,080 X 1,920 pixels comprising of Red, Green, Blue (RGB) sub-pixels that light up the 5.5 inch display. LG is also claiming the new display will make for a better reading experience even in sun lit areas given the high contrast that the display offers. The display returned figures of 3.74:1 based on 10,000 lux with Ambient Contrast Ratio.

LG Developing Windows 8 Based Smartphone

By Leave a Comment

LG has stated they are working on a Windows 8 based smartphone. However, the South Korean company has refused to further divulge details on the issue. So preliminary is the issue right now that they haven’t even decided whether they would indeed go on to launch the device globally or not. Instead, LG has stated that they are evaluating the prospects of such a smartphone running the latest Windows Phone 8 operating system.

LG_Windows

LG though has confirmed it is Android that will remain its thrust area in the immediate foreseeable future and that their Windows Phone 8 venture will never be at the cost of their efforts towards the Google operating system. For LG, Android is the safest bet for them as a mobile platform though it also believes Windows Phone will also emerge much stronger than what it is now in the coming years. What can’t be denied is that its Android that is among the most used mobile platform the world over and has the highest market penetration any where in the world. Android also boasts of one of the largest and most diverse app stores, something that will take years for the Microsoft operating system to reach.

However, while Windows Phone may not have embarked on as steep a popularity curve as Android but has been improving its market share every quarter. Microsoft is backing the platform solidly and some of the best minds as well as copious amount of money is being put in to make a success out of it.

Also, while both Samsung and HTC may have come up with their respective take on a Windows Phone device, none of it has ever got enough recognition. Instead, it’s the Android based Galaxy S4 and the One that is more in news for Samsung and HTC respectively. Its Nokia alone among the big name manufacturers that is pursuing a Windows only policy and has being launching Lumia branded devices that has got decent levels of acceptance so far. But what seems a certainty is that Windows Phone platform has a bright future ahead.

Google Nexus 5 – Is LG manufacturing the Next Nexus 5?

By Leave a Comment

While earlier reports say that LG is not working on the Nexus 5, the most recent report from Korean site Daum.net claims that LG is currently testing a Nexus 5 prototype, and has already shown it to Google’s Larry Page.

According to reports, LG’s Kim Won, in an interview to Dutch All About Phones, had said that the company is not working on a new Nexus 5. Other reports say that the statement could have been wrongly interpreted or translated. The Daum.net report points to LG as the manufacturer of the new Nexus 5, but does not mention anything about the launch date, pricing, or the Android version it will run on.

Google-Nexus-5

LG had done a perfect job with Nexus 4, which runs on the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean vanilla version. As Google’s premier smartphone, Nexus 4 generated considerable revenue for Google and also brought LG to the forefront. Apart from its features, Google’s willingness to offer the device at a reasonable price tag contributed to its success.

Current rumors suggest only an upgrade to the existing Nexus 4, such as increasing internal memory and adding 4G LTE capability.  By far, customers have complained about the lack of 4G LTE support and microSD slot for expandable memory. LG recently announced a white version of the Nexus 4. If an upgraded Nexus 4 is arriving this year, Nexus 5 will probably hit the market next year. Nevertheless, it is hard to make predictions as neither Google nor LG have uttered anything about the new Nexus 5.

Google recently unveiled Nexus editions of two successful Android phones – Samsung S4 and HTC One. But, Nexus 5 implicates far better prospects, given the success of its predecessor, which sold about 3 million units since its launch a few months ago. Will the Nexus 5 feature the next Android iteration Key Lime Pie?

Google Nexus 7 2 Release Date Rumored May 15 To Come With Snapdragon 800 Chip

By 1 Comment

That Google is already into developing the next gen Nexus 7 device is already known with rumor mills claiming Google might launch the device at the I/O conference slated next week itself powered by the new Snapdragon 800 processor. This contradicts an earlier related rumor claiming the Nexus 7 2 will be built around a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro chip.

However, the Snapdragon 800 chip is the latest from Qualcomm that was launched this January at the CES event and is the most powerful chip to come from Qualcomm so far. The chip is believed to enter mass production from next month itself, which rings true with the expected timing of the second gen Nexus tablet’s production. This if true will also make the Nexus 7 2 to be the first tablet off the block to feature the new Snapdragon 800 chip.

google-nexus-7-tablet

However, what seems consistent with both rumors sources is that the new Nexus 7 will feature a 1920 x 1200 resolution display, which translates to an excellent 323 pixels per inch. This no doubt will lead to a better viewing experience than any small tablet currently available, including even the iPad Mini.

Furthermore, other salient features of the Snapdragon 800 chip include its ultra low battery requirements as well as a quick charging time, which is pegged at 3 hours for a full recharge instead of 7 hours. The chip also comes with support for 4G LTE and is compatible with game engines like Unity, Epic and Unigine. The Snapdragon 800 chip also has support for USB 3.0 ports.

With these in mind, what we can expect of the new Nexus 7 will be a tablet with a high resolution display, ultra smooth operations, long backup times and a quick recharge time.

Google is expected to launch the new Nexus 7 during its I/O conference which kicks off in May 15.

LG blames Google for Nexus 4 shortage

By Leave a Comment

It is a blame game between Google and the South Korean company LG.While Google holds LG responsible for the shortfall of Nexus 4 in the market. On the other hand,LG points its finger at Google for the same.

In the French market there is a shortage of Nexus 4.If sources can be believed,it was Google that gave an estimation of the demand for Nexus 4 in this country- a demand that turned out to be more.According to the website,400000 or less phones were sent there for sales.

Google claims that it had based its predictions on the sale of the previous model of Nexus.

n4

The same trend was seen in UK and Germany where the stores have run out of stock for Nexus 4.This is in spite of the fact that many more phones were sent to these countries to cover the predicted ten times more demand. It is still a mystery why there is shortfall in these countries.

A chance still lies for those wanting this phone as LG is trying to make up the shortfall.

This phone is meant to be a “reference” version of the Android software.Google was selling it at a price much lower than retail outlets. The rush for the phone led to the shortfall.Google blamed LG for its short supply.LG claims that it is still in the midst of shipping the phones which may take six weeks.

LG has seen bad days after Samsung,Sony and HTC went ahead with the Android phone. It has tried hard to revive its misfortunes by launching this phone in November 2012.Consumers felt let down after they had applied online for the phone which could not be delivered due to the shortage.

The Vu 2 Review

By Leave a Comment

The LG Optimus Vu 2 is LGs newest creation, released last year in South Korea, where its headquarters is based. It has a very wide touchscreen, and allows users to swipe and tap as though their phone was a tablet. These new “phablets” are taking the cellular industry by storm.

The dimensions of the device are 132.2x 85.6x 9.4. The added girth of the phone is hidden by its sleek design, and although it may be a but wider than other phones, it maintains a modern look and appeal. It weighs a stout 159 grams and comes in black, white or pink, with colored and customizable cases also available for purchase.

The Vu 2 comes equipped with a 5 inch HD-IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 768x 1024 pixels. The screen supports multitouch and is great for games and movies, although the wide girth of the device can get some getting used to for smaller phone gamers.
The Vu 2 also has an exceptional memory bank. 16 GB of data can be stored on the phone, with a micro SD slot also available that supports up to 32 GB cards. The Vu 2 has doubled its predecessors RAM, as it comes stock with 2 GB of it. All this storage is necessary for a phablets, as it is expected to be able to download data from a multitude of sources and still function as a portable device.

image

The camera of the Vu 2 is an eight MP camera with basic features such as an LED flash, autofocus and image stabilization. It is video capable, and shoots at 30 frames per second, not bad for a smaller device. The quality of the video and the photos taken with an Optimus Vu 2 is crystal clear when viewed on the devices display, or when transferred to another monitor via the A/V outputs.

The Optimus Vu 2 runs on the android program v4.0.4, also called ice cream sandwich. This system is not state of the art. In fact, phones this year are being released with v4.2. This is one place where LG could have done better. More advanced software systems were available when they were developing the device, but LG opted for this rudimentary software. This is one area that leaves consumers wanting when it comes to the Vu 2.

The CPU and GPU are both up to date, as the Vu 2 is fitted with a dual-core 1.5 GHz krait and an Adreno 225. The battery is a non removable lithium ion battery and has 400 hours of stand by power available, just over 8 hours when the phone is being used.
Some of the neat features that the Optimus Vu 2 offers are a true HD movie editing program. This program allows users to turn their home videos into projects. With a little patience and know how, a family trip to Disneyland can become an opportunity for a professional art project.

The Vu 2 also boasts standard voice controls. Do everything from make a memo to call a friend with only your voice. This feature makes the Vu 2 especially adept in the car, as no hands are needed to use it. If that weren’t enough, the Vu 2 also comes with a “one key” accessory. This waterproof accessory is meant to be used as a keychain that, when pushed, will make the Vu 2 it is linked to beep. This will alert the owner to its location in the event that it is misplaced. The Q remote is also a nice feature, which allows the Vu 2 to be used as a universal remote for televisions, DVD players, ect.

The LG Optimus Vu 2 was released in Korea for $864.00, a price that may come down in the coming months. There are reports form India that the phone is going for just over $600.00. Still, $864.00 may be a fair price to pay for such a useful and unique device. LGs smart innovation such as the Q remote and the one key accessory will undoubtedly be seen on future models.

LG predicts sales of 45 million smartphones in 2013

By Leave a Comment

Inspired by the impressive strides made by its budget Optimus smartphones, LG is expecting
to sell 45 million smartphones this year. It is a part of its target to sell 75 million handsets in
2013.

The Korean company’s plans come at a time when some reports say that it hasn’t been
meeting shipping deadlines for its Nexus 4 handset, a point that LG has denied.

lg

There are talks that some new top-tier Android phones – GK, G2 and Nexus 5, and Nexus
7.7 tablet – will be released soon. The company’s optimism can be attributed to its plans
of releasing several new Optimus devices and smartphones that will run on Microsoft’s
Windows Phone 8.

LG, a former rival of Samsung, has floundered recently, but its Nexus 4 and Optimus have
come to its aid, and also demonstrate that LG is capable of developing high-performance
mobile devices. Market sources say that LG sold 13 million and 14 million units in the
first and second quarters of 2012 respectively, and 15 million units from October through
December 2012. That seems to indicate that LG can achieve its target provided it maintains
or improves the growth rate.

LG’s plans are quite far from Samsung’s, which plans to sell over 300 million smartphones in
2013.

LG actually missed the 2009-2011 smartphone boom, by rejecting the opportunity to
produce the first Android smartphone, and choosing to rely on the Windows mobile
platform. However, the cheap Optimus L line, Optimus G and Google’s Nexus 4 have led the
company to increase the volume of smartphone sales.

Smartphones have indeed brought in some credibility to the company’s reputation, and
upgrading its product line to high-end Android and Windows Phone 8 could turn out to
be successful. Perhaps, 2013 is set to witness LG shin up and get bigger given the growing
popularity of the company’s budget offerings.
