The Best Touchscreen Laptop on the Market: Our Top 7 Picks

April 2, 2018 By Daniel Giordano Leave a Comment

Best touchscreen laptop: Photo of woman with laptop touching the screen.

What’s the best touchscreen laptop for you? It depends on a lot of things, including what you use your computer for. When buying a computer, you need to know the differences between models and what you’re getting for your money. And we’re here to help.

Chances are, you own a smartphone and have gotten used to interacting with your screen by touch. And yes, touchscreen laptops do have lots of great advantages. Firstly, they’re far more intuitive and easy to use. Secondly, the tech has gotten to the point where it’s reliable and affordable. With beautiful screen displays along with greater speed and responsiveness, why not? Also, they’ve finally become affordable.

Of course, some grumble about slightly higher prices, slightly lower battery life, and grubby fingerprints on your screen. But we’ve come a long way since the Lenovo 3 came out. For the most part, touchscreens now perform as well as standard computer games these days.

When looking to buy a new computer, you need to take a range of factors into account. These include size, weight, performance, speed, memory, operating system, and quality. All of these will a role in deciding what to buy when the time is right. After all, not all computers are created equal. In fact, there’s often a great deal of difference between the makes and models.

For example, if you work images or videos, you’ll need a higher end model with a large, crisp display. Meanwhile, a college student who takes their laptop everywhere needs something lightweight and durable.  As for avid gamers, they need a model with a fast processor, a high-quality graphics card, and lots of RAM.

We have decided to take an opportunity to review and rate a number of different touchscreen laptops. This should certainly help you find the best touchscreen laptop for you.  In order to help you find the right one, we’ve broken our list down into common usage categories.  These options include all-around, business, college, and also the higher-end creative and gaming ones. Furthermore, we have a unique rating system based on a number of different factors. We explain how this works in the section on how we choose our ratings.

How We Choose Our Ratings for the Best Touchscreen Laptop

When we are reviewing the different touchscreen laptops below you will see that we have condensed reviewers’ remarks and opinions, investigating how they have rated the individual models, and listed some of the product specifications of each individual computer.

In order to achieve giving you the most honest and unbiased ratings for the selected computers, all of our ratings are based on information provided by actual real customers and actual manufacturer specifications.

It’s important to note that all of these opinions are provided by real people who have no commercial interest in these products. As for us, although we do make commissions from our links, we only recommend top quality products.

We also want to note that even the best touchscreen laptop may get some bad reviews because of Windows 10. This is due to the fact that Windows 10 updates are frequent, time-consuming, and highly annoying. Furthermore, they make your computer slow down significantly as they take place. Luckily, Microsoft is working on making their Windows 10 updates faster. In addition, you can schedule your updates so they occur when you’re not using your computer.

The Best Touch Screen Laptop: A Buyers’ Guide

In addition to the screen size and processing speed, there are some other things to think about. For example, do you want a screen that comes off so you can also use it like a tablet? And how much memory (RAM) do you think you’ll need?

Convertible or Detachable?

Finally, we’d like to mention that touchscreen laptops come in two flavors: Convertible and detachable. Convertible models allow you to flip your keyboard at a 180-degree angle. This way it functions as a stand so you can use it in tablet mode. Detachable models also let you remove it from the keyboard so you can use it as a stand-alone tablet.

The Microsoft Surface Pro is an example of a best touchscreen laptop that’s detachable.

How Much RAM Do I Need?

When choosing the best touchscreen laptop for you, a major factor is the amount of memory (RAM). For most of us, 8GB ram is the sweet spot. This easily handles nearly all applications for home or work. It can even run resource-hogging software like Adobe Photoshop as long as you don’t have too many windows open. If you love gaming or work with high-end multimedia, large databases, etc., spend more and go for 16 GB RAM.

Product photo: 2018 Newest Flagship Dell Inspiron 13 7000 13.3" Full HD IPS Touchscreen Laptop. Best touchscreen laptop for multimedia.

The 2018 Dell Inspiron 13 7000 may lack the HP ZBook X2’s brawn. However, it holds its own. And it’s also an elegant little marvel of a machine that goes everywhere with ease. On your desk, it has the ports you need to hook it up to a monitor, keyboard, and mouse or pen tablet. Also, the  As a small bonus, it also comes with a stylus (although it’s for writing, not drawing).

This model lists for about $779 and has 8 MB of RAM. That’s enough to run multimedia programs like Adobe Photoshop and Premiere, but not necessarily at the same time.  However, there’s also a more beefed-up version with 16 GB of RAM that lists for around $1,199. This should meet nearly any multimedia user’s needs. As we’ve already noted, prices are subject to change.

However, this Inspiron does have some flaws.  As with the HP ZBook, its flexibility comes at a price. At 3.09 pounds it’s a bit heavier than some would like. Also, those ports make it slightly bulkier than other touchscreen laptops. Also, the battery life could be better. With video, the battery life falls short of the 8 hours, 20 minutes promised.

Some of the available features include:

  • Type: Convertible
  • Weight: 3.09 pounds
  • Size:“
  • Screen:  13.3″ (1920 x 1080 max. resolution)

  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Hard Drive Space: 256 GB SSD
  • Battery Life:  8 hours, 20 minutes
  • OS: Windows 10
  • Other features: Webcam, mic, stylus, USB 3.1 Type C, USB 3.1, HDMI, SD card slot, Blue Tooth

Pros: Beautiful display, sleek design, great Value.

Cons: Battery: A bit heavy.

Rating: 4.5-stars

In Summary

All in all, the Dell Inspiron delivers a lot of bang for the buck… And all in a sweetly designed little package with a modest price tag. You can get a perfectly good refurbished (slightly) older model for even less. This latest model only recently came out. However, reviewers are impressed with the design and versatility. We give it a solid 4.5 out of 5 stars.

This lean, mean, dream machine has all you need for playing the latest computer games. At $4,256, it’s very pricey, however, this top-of-the-line Razer Pro definitely delivers. This system is also the only one that’s THX Certified for the audio, so go ahead and put on your high-end headphones. However, you may not need them, because the built-in speakers are amazing.

The power and massive screen come at a price. The Razer Pro may look slim but it’s packing a lot of pounds. Also, chasing down all those dragons takes a major hit on your battery life. If you forget your cord, expect only about two hours of gameplay. Furthermore, the Razr Pro tends to overheat.

The Razr Pro delivers an incredible gaming experience, but its features do come at a price. Firstly, it’s heavy, and secondly, it tends to overheat and the battery doesn’t last long. Finally, there’s the cost. Luckily for us, prices for laptops and other electronics are never written in stone. The price for the top-of-the-line model has already dipped to a somewhat more affordable $3,799.99 on Best Buy. Furthermore, you can get certified refurbished models for just $3999 from Amazon. Finally, there’s the lower-end version with 16GB RAM listed for around $1699.

Microsoft Tries to Resist Competition With the New Surface Pro 3 Tablet

May 21, 2014 By David Crozier Leave a Comment

new surface pro 3 We talked in the past about Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella and his constant efforts to give the company some leverage over its competitors. In the mobile market share, Microsoft seems to have lost the battle against Apple and Samsung, but where there are good ideas, there is also hope.

At a conference held yesterday in New York, Microsoft unveiled the last installment in their Surface Pro series tablets, the Surface Pro 3 tablet, a device marketed as a fully reliable replacement for a laptop.

The thing about tablets is that they have a poor reputation when it comes to completing some tasks: writing documents, multi – media files editing, job – related activities and so on. For people working with numbers, charts, tables, words and everything else that implies fine mobility skills, attention and speed, it is inconceivable to work on something without a keyboard and a mouse.

The Surface Pro 3 tablet aims to debunk the myths related to tablets in general and stand against other famous and more competitive laptops, such as the MacBook Air. This new gadget also boasts with its new and improved features and the ability to compensate for both a tablet and a laptop without any compromise. Now some skeptics might wonder how can a tablet compensate for a laptop, but let’s listen to what experts have to say about it:

The Surface Pro 3 runs a full version of Windows 8, meaning that owners can run desktop Windows apps like the Microsoft Office suite, as well as apps made for tablets. Buyers can also purchase an attachable keyboard and mouse to transform the Surface into a more traditional laptop.

Unfortunately, even if the Surface Pro 3 wants to be more than just a tablet, it is still a tablet. In the words of tech and financial analysts,

we continue to believe Microsoft faces an uphill battle versus the likes of Samsung and Apple. Microsoft has been late to the game on the tablet front, and Surface’s impact has been underwhelming thus far.

But, in all fairness, the Surface Pro 3 is a fine piece of equipment. It is thinner and lighter than the previous Surface products. It has a wider screen – 12 inches – and sports a built – in kickstand which is flexible enough to allow you to move the screen in almost any angle. Now if you have money to spend, the Surface Pro 3 comes in 5 configurations which range from $799 to $1,949. If you want the extra keyboard cover, put aside an extra $130. The tablets will be available for purchase this summer, but you can order yours starting today.

Microsoft Surface RT Vs Microsoft Surface Pro – Which one is the Best Tablet For Windows 8?

March 4, 2013 By Micheal Baptiste 2 Comments

When Microsoft launched the Surface RT Tablet 4 months ago, it did so with the confidence of offering a viable new tablet solution, and in many ways thought it would revolutionise tablet use with its Windows 8 Lite experience. Windows RT, the mobile specific version of Windows 8 has failed to live up to the expectation, and a lack of app support has left the Surface RT floundering a little.

Yes, the device has sold well, but not in nearly the assertive numbers that Microsoft had hoped while Windows RT has failed to be accepted like the full Windows 8 eventually was. Luckily the Surface RT is not the only Surface product in the lineage as Microsoft also released the Surface Pro last month, a slate that is an entirely different east.

Surface RT Surface Pro

The Surface Pro goes beyond being a revolutionary tablet, and in fact it is probably best to look at this touch screen unit as a notebook or ultrabook. The Surface Pro is not just an upgraded Surface RT; it is a totally different product that offers perhaps the most complete mobile computing solution we have ever seen. The critics are falling over the Pro, whereas they were lukewarm at best towards the RT.

In every department the Surface Pro is better than the Surface RT. While the RT sports a very good 10.6 inch 1266 x 768 pixel screen, the Pro packs a blockbuster full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 panel. The 4GB of RAM in the Pro is twice as much than what the RT boasts, while the Intel i5 processor in the Pro is vastly superior to the Nvidia Tegra 3 chip in the RT.

Of course both tablets look the same, but the Pro comes with the snap on keyboard out of the box, whereas with the RT it is a buyable add-on. Also the Pro features the full Windows 8 OS, which means with that huge power and keyboard you really do have a world class tablet and world class laptop all in one.

It is still early days so predicting any sales success for the Surface Pro is tough, but it is certainly more attractive than the Surface RT.

Microsoft’s Surface Pro tablet has won rave reviews from tech critics while it is also selling swiftly in the face of consumers. However, as an owner of a Surface Pro you may want to wrap it in cotton wool because if anything should happen it will be a tough device to repair. Website iFixit has scored the Surface Pro a lowly 1 out of 10 for reparability, and in case you didn’t know, 1 is the lowest score.

Microsoft’s original Surface Tablet was met with a lukewarm reception, but the more advanced Surface Pro is faring much better. The tablet packs ultrabook specs and a keyboard, meaning it truly is a viable alternative to a laptop as well as being a tablet like entertainment experience. Although, some customers may be put off but that lowly iFixit reparability score.

That score of 1 out of 10 is the worst tablet score ever recorded on iFixit, and many potential problems would not be covered by the warranty. That of course has left some miffed by the fact they could pay $900 for a device that could be next to useless should it come across an unfortunate accident.

It is not all bad news for Surface Pro owners as iFixit scored the tablet highly for how easily the battery and the SSD are removed. However, elsewhere the Surface Pro came under heavy fire because it has a total of 97 screws to remove during a tear down, a whopping number when compared to other similar devices.

The good news is Microsoft is offering full cover on the Surface Pro for $99 which lasts for two years. At least you can have a great product and know it is protected, meaning you do not have to worry about that low reparability score.

Microsoft Surface Pro Consumers Gets Frustrated Due To Short Supply

February 11, 2013 By Daniel Giordano Leave a Comment

Microsoft Surface Pro ad has already debuted, but so are those complaints about supply too are following closely. The ad is directed with an evident business bent, that focuses on pen input. It nods to the USB connectivity and touch interface. The ad is directed by Jon M Chu. But will it help win over frustrated customers?

Microsoft’s Surface Pro went on trade on Saturday, but there were almost immediate shortages, lack of inventory and poor marketing. This is only evoking anger and frustration among consumers. 64GB and 128GB version of the tablet were launched officially at selected retail outlets in US and Canada over the weekend.

But it seems Microsoft was unsuccessful to anticipate accurately what its consumers wanted. It has made a futile attempt to spin the embarrassing news, giving it a positive shade of getting an amazing response. The stores are reeking of incompetence and there are minimum units with the stockists

The Pro was due in January and small numbers of units that were manufactured were spread across hundreds of outlets in North America. Frustrated customers soon left comments in blogs and other sites about everybody wanting the 128GB edition, showing little love for the 64GB version.

Microsoft’s Surface team is already working with retail partners who are out of stock currently. They want to refill supplies as fast as possible. While some customers are able to get their 128GB tabs, most other customers are going home empty-handed. It is easy to understand their frustration as they have been queueing outside Microsoft stores for hours.

Starting at $ 899, Surface Pro has the best of Microsoft to offer in one new device. Choose from hundreds of apps available in the Windows Store and BitLocker keeps your data encrypted and safe. You pay $999 for the 128GB version.

Microsoft Excites Surface Pro with Demo Units

February 4, 2013 By Daniel Giordano Leave a Comment

Microsoft is really trying to make sure that they sell out their new Surface Pro in the market. Hence, the company has decided that they will also various demo units to the retailers that will allow the consumers to actually try out the new Microsoft Surface Pro even before they actually buy it.

Microsoft believes that this will allow consumers to have better faith in the device that they are buying because they can get their hands on the demo units and make sure that they use it even before they have spent their money. However, the software giant has not provided information on which retailers will have the demo units where consumers can try out the new Surface Pro.

Some of the shoppers are really excited about the demo units that will be out in the market even before the actual product is out on February 9. Microsoft believes that this is their new marketing strategy that allows them to instill the confidence of the buyers that can get their hands on the demo units and then make their decisions on buying Surface Pro or not.

On some of the technology sites it is claimed that some of the top retail stores that already provide Microsoft devices like Staples, Best Buy and Microsoft Store will get the demo units where consumers can walk in and try out the new Microsoft Surface Pro but there is no confirmation on it from the actual company.

It is also confusing about the actual price of the device that is still not announced by the company. Some of the technology related sites are guessing the prices based on the previous market conditions but considering that Surface did not do well Microsoft will definitely think about various price factors that can lure more customers to the stores.
