Google Unveils Nexus 9 tablet and Nexus 6 Phone

October 16, 2014 By Micheal Baptiste Leave a Comment

Last month we discussed the rumors that the HTC Nexus 9 was going to be revealed in October and today we’re here to tell you that those rumors were true. Yesterday Google unveiled three new devices: the Nexus 9 tablet, the Nexus 6 Smartphone and the Android TV player and the newest version of Android, the Android 5.0 Lollipop.  We’re absolutely thrilled to take a look at two of these impressive devices: the Nexus 9 tablet and the Nexus 6 smartphone.

Nexus 9 Tablet

The Nexus 9 tablet is an amazing device produced by HTC in collaboration with Google. It has an 8.9-inch display and it comes with the latest Android Lollipop. It has an IPS LDC screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio. Inside lies a little beast! The 2.3GHz nVidia quad-core chip will make playing games an experience you’ll never forget. It has 2GB of RAM and 16/32GB of internal storage. Naturally, the speakers are as wonderful as all the HTC ones, as it features HTC BoomSound speakers that give you an amazing, distortion-free sound. You can preorder the Nexus 9 tablet starting with October 17 (that’s tomorrow!). The 16GB version will cost $399 and the 32GB version, $479. The 32GB Nexus 9 tablet with LTE is a whopping $599.

Nexus 9 Tablet

Nexus 6 Smartphone

The Nexus 6 smartphone has a 6-inch display and it’s made by Motorola in collaboration with Google, the first time Motorola got involved in the Nexus project. It did an amazing job, we believe. It has a 1440×2560 p Corning Gorilla Glass 3 display, with 3GB of RAM and a 13MP back camera. It’s water resistant and it weigh only 184 grams. The Nexus 6 smartphone also comes with the Android 5.0 Lollipop. The Nexus 6 smartphone will be available for preorder at the end of October and it is going to hit the market in November. The unlocked version will cost $649 (32GB) and $699 (64GB).

Do you think the Nexus 9 tablet and the Nexus 6 smartphone are too expensive? Are you looking forward to getting your hands on the new Android devices? Drop us a line in the comment section below and tell us about it.

Nexus 10 out of stock on Google Play, pointing at new model incoming

January 14, 2014 By Mary Duncan Leave a Comment

nexus-10 Google has had regular bursts of unavailable directory when it comes to the Nexus 10, but now the Google Play page says the larger stock Android tablet is completely out of stock, pointing at the next generation model coming sometime soon.

The U.S Google Play store is showing both the 16GB and 32GB Nexus 10 out of stock and has no time when it will be back in stock. We are sure this was not some big order sweeping all the available units, but instead Google deciding it was time to stop the sales.

We have been waiting for a Nexus 10 refresh for some time, back when the Nexus 5 and Android KitKat 4.4 was unveiled, Sundar Pichai said the update was coming soon, but that was about four months ago and we still have nothing on the new tablet.

There was rumor going around saying Samsung would announce the next generation Nexus 10 at CES last week, but that never happened either. Either Google is stalling or they have simply given up on the Nexus 10, which could also be a possibility considering it was not the best selling tablet.

The problem with the Nexus 10 was the real lack of things to do – if seven-inch Android apps looked bad, then ten-inch Android apps looked awful. At the time the Nexus 10 was released, Android had serious problems on the developer side, with hardly any good tablet applications.

Android has continue to grow and we are seeing more developers start to make tablet user interfaces, instead of blow-up smartphone applications. We are also seeing new optimisation tools and more services available for tablets on Android, making the Nexus 10 more of a exciting prospect.

We still do not know the manufacturer or the release date – it could be Samsung or ASUS making the Nexus 10 and we will not know until it is finally revealed. Mobile World Congress may be the stage where it is finally announced or Google may hold their own event.

Google preparing to release Nexus smartwatch alongside Android 4.4

October 4, 2013 By Daniel Giordano Leave a Comment

google-nexus-smartwatch

Google has not been the best at keeping their latest products a secret, with the Nexus 7 and Nexus 5 leaked countless times, with specs information, internals, photo leaks and even a few videos showing the smartphone, including an official one from Google.

They have had their moments, the Chromecast caught us off guard and the switch from Key Lime Pie to KitKat caught everyone by surprise. It appears the Google smartwatch, codenamed Gem, may fall into the Nexus 5 category if Google are not careful.

This is the first real leak we have heard since the rumor Google is preparing a set-top box, gaming console and smartwatch for an October release. Nothing new has been heard about the game console, but the smartwatch is still a go according to insider sources.

The smartwatch should be Nexus, meaning Google will add the latest version of Android and it will get updates almost instantaneously from the provider, we have no details currently on the manufacturer, it could be Google’s own hardware division.

As for the date, reports say Google will launch the smartwatch alongside the LG Nexus 5, Nexus 10 and Android 4.4 on October 31. We wonder if these are the only new products coming from Google, or will we see the new set-top box, an apparent successor to the Nexus Q.

Smartwatches are still in their youth as a market, Pebble did start the trend off with 100,000 backers and still manages to sell a few on the side with software updates. Now we have the Sony Smartwatch 2 and Galaxy Gear contending for a place as the number one smartwatch.

Google may be able to bring some functionality to a smartwatch, including advanced notifications and fitness applications. We are still waiting on Apple to bring the iWatch and the possibility of someone like Jawbone developing a FitBit with smartwatch functionality.

LG Nexus 5 may have been spotted in FCC filing images

September 12, 2013 By Mary Duncan Leave a Comment

lg-nexus-5The FCC is becoming the biggest resource for new smartphones coming to the US, with the open filings available for anyone to have a peak in and see. The LG Nexus 5 has had a few written details and now we are getting a good look at the phone through images.

Only a few of the photos are actually relevant and we get to see what looks to be the LG Nexus 5. At five-inches in size, the name matches the size, it also has the very thin bezels LG added onto the LG G2.

The back of the smartphone shows a larger sensor compared to the Nexus 4, we may see LG add a 10MP or 13MP rear shooter. We doubt the LG Nexus 5 will have groundbreaking camera hardware, Google has never been adamant on adding next-gen features.

LG will be adding a polycarbonate matte back to the device, this will not be the glass back like on the Nexus 4, thankfully. The polycarbonate looks like it has a rubbery texture, similar to the Kindle Fire or Nexus 7.

We are likely to see the Nexus 5 come with a 1080P screen and possibly Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 processor. This is similar to a lot of high-end smartphones on the market and Google will launch the phone with the Android KitKat 4.4.

Motorola’s Nexus plans do not seem to be taking any shape, while LG is getting leaked almost daily now. This means either the Moto Nexus leakers were wrong or Google is planning something else with Motorola.

Whatever the case, Google will probably launch the LG Nexus 5 sometime before the end of the year. KitKat 4.4 is set to make battery life extremely better and make compatibility easy with even the lowest-end devices running Android.

This move may be Google’s way of making sure every device is upgraded to the latest version, instead of sitting on old software. Google will also make some minor changes to the UI, but nothing too different, this is only a 0.1 update, similar to Jelly Bean 4.3.

Leaker retracts on statements about the LG D820, could be Nexus 5

September 11, 2013 By Mary Duncan Leave a Comment

lg-nexus-5Notable leaker evleaks has retracted his statement a few days ago, when he said the LG D820 was just an LG G2 variant. The leaker has been known to get a few things wrong in past leaks, but normally news from his Twitter account is solid.

The LG D820 does have similarities to the LG G2, especially when it comes to internals that match completely. The difference, which some other tech enthusiasts pointed out, was in the dimensions between the two smartphones.

With Evleaks retracting his statement, it seems the LG D820 may be the new Nexus 5. Google and LG have apparently struck up another partnership with the smartphone and now LG will offer a larger experience, similar to the LG G2.

Inside the LG D820 will be the all too familiar quad-core Snapdragon 800 CPU, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, 7-band LTE, dual-band WiFi and a pretty small 2,400mAh battery. The design is said to be similar to the LG G2, with an official Google video showing an unnamed device.

The FCC filing did say it was coming to the US with different LTE bands meeting the requirements for AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint. No word on Verizon Wireless, although we may see another variant come through the FCC soon.

Google will launch the phone on the Google Play store without a contract, as they have done in the past with Nexus devices. The smartphone should be the same price as the Nexus 4, even with the bump in specs and new design.

We may see some carrier editions come out, T-Mobile decided to release the carrier version of the Nexus 4, although we cannot see this being a popular move that brought a lot of traction. Perhaps if the LG Nexus 5 is more expensive, more carriers will adopt the phone on a subsidised contract.

New Nexus 7 2 Release Date: More Details Emerge about Google Next Tablet

July 1, 2013 By David Crozier Leave a Comment

It’s some time now that we have been expecting the next gen Nexus 7 device to be finally unleashed. While many had put their bet on the release date of the new Google Nexus 7 2 happening during the Google I/O event held a couple of weeks ago, experts are now predicting the device to be finally unveiled later this month itself. Sure it’s again a game of hit or miss that is being played out though some more details of the device have come to the fore. And the best thing with the latest round of leak – which we hope will be the last before we get to see the real thing – is that it pretty much confirms what we have known of the upcoming Google tablet so far.

nexus7

As revealed by an Asus customer service rep, the Nexus 7 2 will offer a 7 inch full HD display having a resolution of 1980 x 1200 pixels, which is quite close to the previous leaks that had pegged the tablet’s resolution at 1920 x 1080 pixels. Also, while previous rumors had claimed the device to feature a 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 processor, the service rep in the latest revelation has stated the new generation Nexus tablet will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chip at its core.

On the software side, the new Nexus 7 is expected to be the first device to come pre-loaded with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, the latest iteration of Android that is slated to launch anytime now. This apart, the Nexus 7 2 will also feature twin cameras, including a 2 mp unit at the front to allow for video chats and self portraits as well as a 5 mp unit integrated at the rear. What is almost a surety is that the Nexus 7 2 won’t be provided with a sd card slot, which means one will have to do with what the device comes fixed with.

Google Nexus 4 White, Android Jelly Bean 4.3 Release dated for June 10

May 20, 2013 By Micheal Baptiste Leave a Comment

Google I/O Conference was held on May 15. Alongside, a number of rumors regarding the unveiling of Google Nexus 7 2, announcement of Android Key Lime Pie v.5.0 and a lot more were simply shattered. Google hinted nothing over a white variant of Nexus 4 and Android 4.3. However, it is almost unfeasible for some rumors to cool down. Rumors on the white variant of Nexus 4 and Android v.4.3 are still swirling in the pool.

The white variant of Nexus 4 will obviously be a ditto of the black one, with a light upgrade in its OS. Rumors reveal that white Nexus 4 will be available at Google Play Store from June 10 onwards. A tech forum says that it was able to lay hands on the white Nexus 4 at I/O. Nexus 4 originally runs on Android v.4.2. It seems that Android 4.3 will just be a minor update with slight specifications.

google-nexus-4-white

Possibly, the developer AVI plane would be augmented to version 18, enabling sturdy support for Bluetooth Smart and likely OpenGL ES 3.0 as well. It is also highly probable that Android v.4.3 Jelly Bean will be rolled out to rest of the Nexus devices like Nexus 10 and 7. White variant of Nexus 4 would be available at a commencing price of $299.

Meanwhile, Nexus 4 endorses a 4.7 inches display with a screen resolution of 768*1280 p at a pixel density of 318 ppi. An 8 MP camera and 2 GB RAM are other notable specs of the Nexus 4. It is available in two variants of 8 and 16 GB. Nexus 4 operates on a Qualcomm APQ8064 Snapdragon, Quad Core Krait 1.5 GHz and Adreno 320. Recently, Nexus 4’s Android v.4.2 was upgraded to v.4.2.2. If the white variant of Nexus 4 runs on Android 4.3, most likely, the black model would be upgraded to the same.

Nexus 4 Is Selling Out in Hours at T-Mobile

November 24, 2012 By David Crozier Leave a Comment

T-Mobile Nexus 4 is sold out in a couple of hours.

When Google Nexus 4 ran out of stock after minutes of availability, the only hope of the consumers was to wait for T-Mobile to commence its online offering in their stores. However, when Google posted up a link to the website of T-Mobile quietly via Google Play store, online stocks of Nexus 4 at T-Mobile were gone.

Nexus 4 Is Selling Out in Hours at T-Mobile

Perhaps most users wanted an off-contract Nexus 4, but it seems that the intimidating thought of a two-year contract was not at all holding people back from purchasing a subsidized Google device. The exact number of units in online orders is not revealed, but if you are really desperate to have one, try your luck by checking the carrier store in your locality. You shall be fortunate if they have few stocks left.

Buying a unit of Nexus 4 at T-Mobile shall cost $199 for the 16 GB version that comes along with a two-year contract. With a $100 more, one can get the unit without a contract and an 8GB unlocked while a $150 more is the off-contract 16GB. However, the record shows that many Nexus 4 fans are willing to go for the two-year contract just to own the greatest and most recent Google phone.

The 4.7-inch Nexus 4 has 1280 by 768 IPS display and a 320ppi pixel density. Inside of it are 2GB RAM and a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU. It comes with a rear camera of 8MP and a front one with 1.3MP VGA. It runs Jelly Bean Android 4.2, has a wireless charging and NFC. No LTE though.
