There’s a new app in town! Nokia in partnership with the UK Royal National Institute of Blind People revealed the new Pocket Magnifier app that was specially designed for people with eyesight issues. Smartphone owners can use this app to turn their phone display into a magnifying glass. The new app can be downloaded from the Nokia Collection on the Nokia Lumia smartphones.
The Pocket Magnifier app will help users see things magnified at a 4x digital zoom. The new app comes with different features for pinching and zooming the screen in and out with two fingers and a slider control used for fine tuning what you’re looking at. With the Pocket Magnifier app users can refocus the image they want to see so they can better read what it says on the picture. Another great feature is the pause button that allows you to freeze the image for an easier reading or viewing.
The new Nokia app also makes it easier to see in poor light conditions with the help of the light bulb pictogram included in the menu that will activate a LED flash on the Nokia Lumia smartphone, if pressed.
Nokia also announced that they will release new updates on some of their existing apps like the Nokia Storyteller Beta and the Chat Beta. The Nokia Glance app will also be updated so that it will be compatible with Microsoft Windows Phone 8.1.
Nokia Pocket Magnifier App is free to download
The Pocket Magnifier app is 5MB in size and it can be downloaded for free from the Nokia Collection app store and the Windows Phone store.
The reviews of the Pocket Magnifier app have been positive so far and it seems that it really makes a difference for people with eye-sight problems. One user said “Wow! Can’t count how many times I’ve needed this while shopping!”
