Nokia set to announce six new devices at Abu Dhabi event on October 22

By Leave a Comment

nokia-abu-dhabi Nokia is preparing six new devices for their Abu Dhabi event on October 22, now officially announced after a week of waiting. Nokia has not said what the event will have in store, although we have some ideas on what we are going to see.

The first thing to note is the event setting, Abu Dhabi is fancy but it is not near Finland. Most Nokia events are either in Finland or London, with the occasional flashy launch in New York City, Abu Dhabi is a fancy spot and we wonder why Nokia has decided to go with the desert shores.

With Nokia’s recent sale of the Devices Division, we believe this is just the roadmap the company has already set in place. We are probably going to see the same sorts of devices for the next few months, until Microsoft finalises the deal and Nokia ships their 32,000 employees over to Redmond.

One of the six devices should be the new Lumia 1520, the larger phablet running Windows Phone 8. This is the next generation of Windows Phone, with a quad-core processor and 1080p display, thanks to the GDR3 update Microsoft is preparing to roll out.

Nokia may also be preparing to launch the new Windows RT tablet, codenamed Sirius. The early leaks have not been met with any positivity, with the price set to $499, more expensive than some Windows 8 hybrid computers.

As for the rest, there are rumors Nokia will be launching a cheaper version of the Lumia 920, possibly the 880 or something along those lines. The numbering system has become incredibly dull and Microsoft has said they will look to condense the naming.

We may also see Nokia bring some cheap Asha handsets to the market, despite the fact Microsoft probably wants rid of that operating system to make way for budget line Windows Phone 8 devices.

Nokia Sirius Windows RT tablet new render leaked

By Leave a Comment

nokia-sirius Rumors of a Nokia Windows RT tablet has been around for a while, with some dating back to the end of 2012. With the acquisition of Nokia’s Devices Division from Microsoft, now seems the perfect time to re-energize Windows RT.

The tablet, codenamed Nokia Sirius, is set to arrive on September 26 alongside the new Nokia Lumia 1520 Windows Phone phablet. Both will be unveiled at a Nokia event in NYC, similar to the one held for the Nokia Lumia 1020 reveal a few months back.

With a new leaked image render showing the Nokia Sirius, we must say the design is adventurous, with a sleek-red color and sharp edged design similar to the Windows Surface, it looks like a pretty decent competitor.

Inside the Nokia Sirius is Qualcomm’s quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, multiple storage options, ten hours of solid battery life, 6MP rear camera and a 1920 x 1080 resolution screen.

The odd thing about this rumor is the price, according to leakers, the Nokia Sirius will start at $499. This is more expensive than some of the cheapest Windows 8 hybrid computers and the same price as the iPad, not to mention a lot more expensive than some Android tablets.

Even with Nokia’s amazing hardware on the Windows RT tablet, the main problem is the software running on Nokia Sirius. Windows RT still does not have a lot of developer support and many find the OS odd, simply because it offers two experiences.

Competing against the iPad on price is hard, especially when the software is half-baked with nowhere near the amount of apps Apple has acquired with the iPad. Windows Surface got slammed for its price and it was $100 cheaper than the Nokia Sirius.

We are looking forward to the six-inch Windows Phone from Nokia at the event, but this tablet seems a bust if it is anything over $399 and certainly not worth $499, when a user could grab an iPad or cheap Windows 8 hybrid.
