Once upon a time, Barnes and Noble was a titan in the world of books. And then, Amazon happened to it, along with Apple and the global tendency to move away from the printed book to the electronic one.
The company rethought its strategies and spent years investing, developing and delivering not only awesome Nook readers, but a myriad of publications.
The book retailer had no other choice but align its policies to the trends and delivered their own e-readers and tablets which were pretty successful back in the day. Unfortunately, the competition was fierce and B&N started losing ground.
In the past few years, Barnes and Noble and the Nook witnessed a tremendous decrease in popularity and some rumors back in the day suggested that B&N was on the verge of giving up completely to the business. In December this year, things got even more confusing, as the company said they were in course of assessing the future of their tablets, while launching a non – tablet new reader in the same period, during holiday season.
The latest news concerning Barnes and Noble are encouraging for the fans. The company buckled up for an interesting ride, co – partnering with tech giant Samsung in order to deliver new Nook tablets to the world. In comparison with other tech collaborations and partnerships, this time both companies confirmed the facts and even expressed their enjoyment of working together.
Getting strong back – up from a tech behemoth is not a new thing for Barnes and Noble, as it had Microsoft investments so far. Unfortunately, it lost its edge and reported major decline in revenues in the past quarter. Moreover, the company will actually move out from its Palo Alto, California offices to smaller ones in Santa Clara to cut some costs.
From this point of view, Samsung’s salutary intervention looks more than welcomed. The new Nook tablets will be actually Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook tablets
with easy access to Barnes and Noble’s expansive digital collection of more than three million books, leading magazines and newspapers, as the two companies stated.
This may be a strike of genius from the part of both companies. On one hand, Samsung takes a step forward in its race against Apple and comes up with a new product, while Barnes and Noble tries to keep its market share in the face of a ruthless competition. According to the statements released by both companies, the final product will become available at Barnes & Noble’s 700 U.S. stores in August, but the price is still undisclosed.
