Overwatch To See Console-Only Changes To Torbjorn’s Turret

June 27, 2016 By David Crozier Leave a Comment

The Overwatch Team wants consoles to be fun and less competitive.

Torbjorn’s annoying auto-targeting turret is getting a damage nerf just for the Overwatch console players.

Jeff Kaplan, game director of Blizzard’s Overwatch, recently made a new announcement on Reddit meant for the console players of the first-person team shooter.

The Overwatch team has decided to lower the damage on Torbjorn’s turrets, only in the case of the console version of Overwatch.

PC gamers can still avidly complain about the unfair disadvantage of being auto-targeted by a turret (which takes little to no skill to just set on top of the payload). For consoles, however, being auto-targeted is seen as a much bigger deal. Even professional tournament controllers with perfectly tuned sensitivity and recoil cannot compare to the precision granted by a PC mouse.

Overwatch is not the first console game that seems to be treated as an entirely different entity versus its PC counterpart, however. Diablo III Ultimate Evil also has significant gameplay differences, to the point where many agree that it feels like a different game with the same end-goal.

This turret damage nerf, as well as all future console-only or PC-only changes, will be reinforcing the fact that Blizzard currently believes that consoles, or better said console shooters, are not e-sports ready.

PC and console gamers are not able to queue together because it is evident that even in optimal console setting, the PC platform does offer several default advantages in a first-person shooter.

Does this make Overwatch for consoles a bad game? No, it does not. It is still a very fun game which can also be played by competitive people. For PC gamers, Overwatch is a competitive game which can also prove to be very fun.

The McCree and Widowmaker changes will be coming to console soon as well. The later scheduling of the changes is only proving that Jeff Kaplan and his team value and respect their console player-base just as much as the PC player-base but that balance changes on console need to be more “aired out”.

The console medium is less competitive, so there is more room for fun, instead of just perfect meta-balance.

Also in regards to the meta, once the first big Overwatch e-sports events start coming, Torbjorn players can expect either effective counterplay from pro players who figured out how to effectively kill turrets or long term minor tweaking.

Bethesda E3 2016 Was Everything We Hoped For

June 13, 2016 By Nicholas Anderton Leave a Comment

The main presentation banner of the Bethesda E3 2016 showcase, with a Dragonborn and Fallout mascot.

It wasn’t the Bethesda E3 2016 showcase we deserved, but it was the one we needed.

One of the most anticipated showcases of the weekend was Sunday’s Bethesda E3 2016 showcase. Gamers had repeatedly been teased with news regarding, Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, and last but not least, Dishonored. After an entire year since its first official trailer release, a majority of voices cried out for more Dishonored. No pressure, Bethesda.

“Yes, Quake is back.”

Those were the first words said at the Bethesda E3 2016 showcase. Simple, elegant, effective. And then the trailer for Quake Champions was played.

Quake Champions was presented as competitive arena-style PC shooter. And Bethesda did not oversell the word “competitive”. Quake Champions boasts with running with unlocked framerates, a feature which should be a staple in all first or third person games. As it is coming exclusively for the PC, concerns in regards to porting to or from consoles do not exist.

Bethesda also announced that they plan on expanding their Quake e-sport support at a global level. Hopefully, Quakecon will still be around and will also be the event where the Quake Champions World Finals will be held. Competitive indeed.

The Elder Scrolls: Legends

Interested parties had previous opportunities to have a look at what The Elder Scrolls: Legends is all about. Bethesda E3 2016 played a brilliant trailer for the new strategy card game, half of which made several watchers reminisce of 300.

Bethesda still plans for The Elder Scrolls: Legend to be a free-to-play game. They’ve also teased about both single-player and multiplayer modes. If the single player is going to be anything like HearthStone’s Adventures but with The Elder Scrolls lore, then it can’t come quick enough. When Legends does arrive, it is scheduled to do so on PC, Android, and iOS.

Fallout 4

Announcements for Fallout 4 (and Fallout Shelter) followed. Bethesda will be giving the survivors of the apocalypse Contraptions, a lot of different fun devices such as Sorting Machines.

Nuka-Wolrd postcard showcased at Bethesda E3 2016

The Nuka-World mascot is creepier than the entire plot of Prey.

Players will also be getting their own Vault, because ever since it was released people just wanted to play Shelter in first person. Finally, everybody is going to Nuka-World, Fallout’s very own fun park!

Skyrim Special Edition

The Skyrim remaster boasts new graphics and effects. Skyrim Special Edition will be coming out exclusively on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Prey

Arkane Studios will be working on the new Prey title, Bethesda announced, along with the new trailer.

Gorgeous visuals and sound aside, the trailer does pique a lot of interest. The plot seems to be similar to “Groundhog Day”, but in space, and horrifying. What’s not to love?

Doom

Bethesda E3 2016 announced that for the week following E3, the first level of their new Doom game will be free to play. The gesture is nice and hints at a nostalgic time when demos, shareware, and 3½ “ floppy disk drives were a daily occurrence.

The Elder Scrolls Online

The Dark Brotherhood is coming! It’s going to be the next big expansion for The Elder Scrolls Online. So much backstabbing!

However, before that happens, the “One Tamriel” update is scheduled. The update will enable all players to explore any part of the world. Character level and power will scale accordingly to match the zone or group they’re part of. The developers also stated that no other MMO is doing anything similar, so that’s always a good motivator to check things out.

Bethesda VR

Attendees of the Bethesda E3 2016 showcase got to preview both Fallout 4 and Doom in VR. Personally, I can’t imagine what’s scarier in virtual reality, giant radioactive cockroaches or hellish ghouls. Bethesda also announced that in 2017, Fallout 4 will be available for the HTC Vive.

Dishonored 2

One year and one whole showcase after the first trailer, Bethesda showed us the gameplay trailer for Dishonored 2.

Emily, Corvo, and the Outsider all look amazing in this dystopian dieselpunk-esque sequel. The flow of the graphics is still in the visual style of Arkane Studios, but the contrast has been increased to something mildly reminiscent of Bioshock Infinite.

With the Bethesda E3 2016 showcase coming to its finality, the crowd hype was overwhelming, and we were all left wanting for more. Prey and Dishonored 2 look amazing. Quake and Doom brought back the nostalgia in a right way. Fallout and The Elder Scrolls, the Bethesda classics at this point, also stood their ground.

What’s your favorite, or least favorite, game of the Bethesda E3 2016 showcase? What were you hoping they would announce but didn’t? What took you by surprise? Let us know.

Sunrise Calendar Will Rise for the Last Time

October 29, 2015 By Brandi McCants Leave a Comment

"Sunrise Calendar Will Rise for the Last Time"

Sunrise will close indefinetly and all of its functions will be integrated into Outlook.

In an attempt to further develop and enrich the contents of Outlook application for both mobile and PC, Microsoft announced that he bought Sunrise Mobile Calendar and will shut down its features after it will be fully integrated into Outlook. Sunrise Calendar will rise for the last time, after that it will become a part of the all-new Outlook concept.

Although we all are aware of the perks of using a powerful tool like Microsoft’s Outlook, Sunrise application used to deliver even more useful services. Sunrise Mobile Calendar, included a large variety of features that you could use in order to connect to social applications. One such feature is the “Meet” integrated service which you can use in order to arrange and schedule meetings from third-party applications. You could also use Sunrise in order to access content from Facebook, Evernote and Wonderlist, and even to get the weather forecast in you location. It also came with other integrated functions that lets you access contents from TV shows.

Sunrise Calendar will rise for the last time, letting Outlook rise above all expectations. The service is still available to users, because Outlook is still undergoing major redesign in order to accommodate the new integrated services. Microsoft officials announced that once they finish sprucing up Outlook, Sunrise service will shut down for good.

Although that you can feel the wind of change, Outlook doesn’t surprise us with anything new. Apart from some minor changes in the user interface and some pictograms, the program seems to be delivering the same services as before. These changes may have been prompted by the Sunrise development team that changed sides when Microsoft went ahead and bought both Sunrise and Outlook in early February.

Welcoming Sunrise expertise in the process of developing a whole new platform, Microsoft wants to revolutionize the way you can use this agenda. Apart from sending and receiving mails, you can program all your meeting more easily, you can create and rearrange daily tasks and you can even share you agenda and meeting planner on any social network.

The plan of buying Sunrise and Outlook cost Microsoft several million dollars, but the results are hardly disappointing. According to the number, there are approximately 1.2 billion Outlook sessions each month and Microsoft plans to expand its services even further.

So, Sunrise will never rise, but, as of today, Outlook will have a brand new look.

PC Sales Dip Despite Holidays, Windows 8 Release

January 15, 2013 By Brandi McCants Leave a Comment

Many people will probably see the latest numbers of PC sales and shrug it off as just a bad economy. While people may be watching what they are spending, the numbers are still dampened by the tablets that continue to make way into the technology market. While not completely devouring computers, tablets have taken a bite out of their competition with PCs.

PC sales did see growth in one sector of the market. In the business side of computers, they remain to be popular.Businesses still find PCs to be much more effective in the business world.Still as tablets work on the business sector by improving their business features, we may also see a decline there as well.

pc

Overall, HP remains on top among all the brands in the world followed by Lenovo. For the United States market,HP continues to remain on top with Dell closely behind. With a 2.1% decline in shipments,PCs will soon fade to a halt. Will they diminish altogether, who knows? What we do know is people are
not replacing their PCs as they once were. When their computer ages out, they turn to buy a tablet for replacement. This is definitely the sore spot PCs are facing.Desktop computers saw this in the past when personal computers hit the marketplace. Now,it is the PCs turn to feel the pain.

Tablets are all the rage right now.Maybe it is a fad,but having the computing needs at your fingertips so easily while on the go makes it a great sale. Tablets continue to get a lot of attention with companies as they look to renew their devices and make changes to what users are wanting in a computer. Only the future will tell what the lifespan of the PC is.

PC Market Does Not Soar With Windows 8

January 12, 2013 By Mary Duncan Leave a Comment

It might not come as a shocking news for many, but the launch latest computer
operating system in this year by Microsoft – The Windows 8 – was not good
enough to compel buyers to buy too many PCs for their home. The truth is that the
world is shifting towards lighter and more affordable solutions, the smart phones
and tablets, to get their daily requirement fulfilled. On top of that, the economies
of major countries did not gain too much strength during the year 2012, making
people to refrain from spending unnecessary money on personal and business
computers.

pc

Windows 8 is the next installment in the computer operating system line by
Microsoft, following the extremely successful Windows 7. Windows 8 eight
brought dramatic changes as compared to the legacy OSes, the most important
being the kernel. Windows 8 introduced a new Modern UI, which is now the
primary “start screen” of the OS. This UI has been adopted from the Metro UI of
Windows Phone 7 and was developed to make the OS more touch friendly.

One major point which Microsoft overlooked was that most of the PC owners
do not have touch screens, making the Modern UI rather difficult to adopt with a
mouse and keyboard. Secondly, some minor changes in the original desktop, along
with making it the secondary UI, has repelled customers who are afraid of facing
drastic changes in the way their computer operates.

Another major issue is are overpriced ultrabooks, which does not give a solid
impression as to why to buy the products. Total PC shipments fell by 6.4% as
compared to 2011, giving a clear indication of where the consumer electronics
market is heading to. However, it will take some while before people truly realize
the potential and use of Windows 8 in the touch screen market.
