Insomniac Games is Working on New Spider-Man, Exclusive For PS4

June 14, 2016 By David Crozier Leave a Comment

The new Spider-Man title is to be developed by Insomniac Games and it will be a PlayStation 4 exclusive.

Marvel! Sony! Insomniac! By your powers combined, I am Spider-man!

Sony’s E3 2016 showcase proved to be full of wonder and amazement, even more so when Sony officially announced that they were working with Insomniac Games to bring a new PlayStation 4 exclusive Spider-man title.

The trailer was everything one currently expects from a Marvel title – dramatic, heroic music, brilliant and beautifully contrasted sceneries, and light-hearted down-to-earth narration.

The Spider-man trailer starts off by showing the gorgeously animated and populated New York, Spider-man’s regular playground. Everything from lighting to contrast, to saturation makes the visuals look almost real.

Considering that for trailers of previous titles, Insomniac Games used their in-game graphics engine with slight alterations in the past, perhaps this title will also have almost trailer-like graphics. Exclusivity to just one port means that a lot more effort will be put into the title being stable and streamlined.

Antagonists in the trailer have one common feature – a scary metallic mask covering their face.

Well, that at least goes for the trailer. It is yet unknown how many enemies will be present in the new Spider-man. However, Insomniac Games have stated on the record that Marvel and Sony have tasked them to create “a brand-new, authentic Spider-Man story.”

Story aside, the discussion about the trailer would not be complete without addressing the elephant in the room (or trailer) – the Suit.

The suit’s design tries its best to stay hardcore classic, keeping the exact shades of red and blue that Spider-man fans have known and loved since the early days of the animated series.

The eyes are also classic, with a larger part of white, allowing for the black contours to mimic facial expressions and emotions.

Both the costume’s webbing and the actual launched webs stay true to their origins. It was unable to tell if this Spider-man is using a mechanical device for his web slingers or if it’s part of his mutation.

Nevertheless, the spider symbols are new. A stark color of white, identical to the eyes. White stripes stemming from the inner part of the elbow reach the gloves. Additionally, the outer sole of the shoes appears to have some white, metallic, elements. Their purpose is yet undefined, but they could be meant to aid in either jumping or wall-walking.

Spider-man is the first ever title that Insomniac Games will be working on which will not be an in-house concept. While their dedication as Marvel fans cannot be questioned, it is yet to be decided by the fans if their Spider-man will make history. “No pressure, right?”

PS4 Price Cut

October 10, 2015 By Nicholas Anderton Leave a Comment

Now that we know that there is a PS4 price cut, we also want to know when.

PS4 Price Cut

If you were present at the Tokyo Game Show, you might be familiar with the fact that Sony officially announced a PS4 price cut in Japan. You know what this means, right? We westerners are probably going to get the same special treat as well. This is fantastic news for every console lover or anybody who wants to get a console, especially because the PlayStation 4 is dominating the console market right now.

But there is a big question on everybody’s lips. Now that we know that there is a PS4 price cut, we also want to know when. Because the faster we get it, the better. Imagine how a few dollars can change the entire experience! If the PS 4 would even be $50 cheaper, you could get one very good game with it or two decent games. It’s quite a deal.

And the good news is? That this seems to be the exact sum that is going to be cut from the initial price. Better get your wallets ready everyone. It’s time to show Steam that PS users are more dedicated that the PC ones! Well, that might not happen anytime soon, but there is nothing bad in being positive right?

Also, what would be very interesting to see is how Microsoft would deal with this price cut, since the PlayStation 4 would go down to the same price as the Xbox One. Competition is still in Sony’s favor after we have seen countless times that, despite having a cheaper console, Microsoft’s Xbox demand is way, way under PlayStations, even if they cost $50 more.

A lot of people are wondering when this announcement is going to be made and speculations have already risen. According to the console believers, we should expect the big news somewhere around Black Friday. Not only does Sony benefit from Black Friday anyway, but making this announcement before such a big event would definitely turn the massive console tide towards them and they are a company that can deal with the big wave.

Microsoft should take this move into account. If they don’t, they would be at a serious disadvantage. Some say that it would be a good idea to drop the Xbox One’s price for $50 as well, but this would bring Microsoft almost no benefit apart from attracting a few customers on the market who are not exactly the PlayStation type.

We just have to wait and see how things unfold, but from our point of view, Sony is playing quite hard.

PlayStation 4 Sells Like Hotcakes in the UK

September 9, 2014 By Mary Duncan Leave a Comment

Here at GadgetGestures there are plenty of PlayStation 4 fans. We believe it’s the best console they’ve come up with so far and we were really excited to find out that it’s also a hit in the United Kingdom. The PlayStation 4 game console is actually the second-fastest selling console in the UK. MCV trade publication has made public that the PS4 has sold in more than 1 million pieces after only 42 weeks of its release. This important piece of information could mean that Sony’s star console may become one of the most popular and best-selling consoles ever.

ps4

The previous PlayStation 2, which is the best-selling console of all time (150 million copies sold worldwide) reached 1 million copies after 50 weeks from its release, which makes the PS4 even more successful. By comparison, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft sold its first million copies after 60 weeks, so we say that the new PlayStation 4 has a very big chance to actually be the best-selling console ever. The Wii, however reached its first million sold copies after only 38 weeks. So the Wii is still the record holder when it comes to game devices. Another great news for Sony is the release of their mega PS4 game called Destiny, which works on PS3, Xbox One and Xbox 360.

We are aware that early sales do not really reflect the overall sales but it’s a very promising start. We all remember the problems Sony had with their PS3, which, although reaching its first million in 46 weeks, turned out to be problematic and eventually caused Sony to lose market share.

“I would really like to thank all of our retail partners who have backed us so far. The work they have put in and the execution through the launch was exceptional, and without which we would not have got off the ground. We continue to work very well together and our plans for this Christmas are coming together quite nicely”, said Fergal Gara, the managing director of PlayStation in the UK.

Sony PlayStation Now: backward compatibility without the bulk

January 8, 2014 By Brandi McCants Leave a Comment

sony-playstation-nowWhen Sony decided to make the PS3 backward compatible with previous generation games, it brought on about double the weight to make this possible. Not only did the price not attract users, but the size of the original PS3 was something to behold.

For the PlayStation 4, Sony had a different idea on how to have backward compatibility without the bulk and it all starts in 2012, when the Japanese company decided to acquire game streaming service Gaikai for $380 million.

Gaikai has been reformed into PlayStation Now, their new streaming service for PlayStation owners. The idea is to allow all games from their past generation library and have them streamed to the PlayStation 4, PS Vita and Sony smartphones.

It is interesting, especially since Sony will offer games from the PlayStation, PS2 and PS3 library on the service. This means old classics like Rayman and Spyro could be available through the service, unless Sony doesn’t want those titles clogging up the store.

Details are limited at the present time, but it looks like PlayStation Now will be available on a monthly subscription. We are not sure if Sony will offer it for free to PlayStation Plus users or bundle it for a cheaper amount.

Microsoft has yet to show their hand on the backward compatibility features, users can buy games from the store that were available pre-Xbox One launch, but there is no real Xbox or Xbox 360 catalogue users can jump into and start playing.

Since Microsoft is a software company, it may be a little easier for them to create a streaming service for games. If they cannot muster the technology or are simply too lazy, OnLive and other services are available to acquire and we know Microsoft loves the big acquisitions.

Microsoft sells one million Xbox One units in twenty-four hours

November 25, 2013 By David Crozier Leave a Comment

xbox-oneMicrosoft has almost cloned the announcement Sony made a week ago, revealing one million Xbox One sales in the first twenty-four hours. This is a pretty incredible announcement, especially considering the Xbox One coming a week later than the PS4.

This is a lot more impressive considering the Xbox One is only currently available in 13 markets and has missed out on Japan and other very video-game focused areas of the world that Sony has been able to tap, though both consoles are not available in Japan until 2014.

In addition to the late launch and small regional launch, the Xbox One also costs $100 extra as it comes with Kinect. We are not sure how much Microsoft rounded up the Xbox One unit sales, but on the same side Sony could have rounded up PS4 sales.

Microsoft has always had a stronger foot in the US market against Sony, who normally do better in Asia. This generation, both console manufacturers have left Asia out and Microsoft has put the Xbox One out into the European market earlier.

This may have been vital for early sales in Europe, especially with the move to have the Xbox One and a free copy of FIFA 14 shipped out to all Europeans. Microsoft has been criticised for being anti-consumer in the long run up to the launch of the two consoles, but it looks like the end results pitch both console manufacturers level in sales.

Both consoles are suffering from a lack of games at the launch, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are both suffering from a lack of solid exclusives and the ones available have had meagre reviews – leading many to wonder if buying a console in 2013 is worth the money.

This may have made a few consumers sour about the next generation, but with both getting one million sales in 24 hours and a few more million before Christmas, we can see plenty of developers wanting to get their biggest titles out on the consoles.

PS4 day one exclusives fail to inspire reviewers

November 14, 2013 By David Leave a Comment

ps4Sony has went all in on the games approach to the next generation, not sampling the next technology Microsoft is implementing into the Xbox One with the Kinect and TV integration, but instead focusing on getting newer titles on the most powerful console.

This sort of gaming centric console needs two things to succeed in the coming months, a strong lineup of top-games everyone wants to play and a handful of great exclusives you aren’t going to get anywhere else – PS4 may have a hard time grabbing the latter if early reviews are anything to go on.

A few early exclusives seem to miss the good feature stop, including KillZone: Shadow Fall and Knack, two of the PS4 most featured games. It appears both lack vision of the next generation capabilities and fail to do anything remarkable, making it a rather adequate experience at best.

This is not a good start for Sony, especially considering early looks at Knack and hype for the game made it seem like a whole new experience. It appears to be another let down, something innovative that had to be condensed in order to be finished in time for the launch.

We have yet to see some other new games Sony is preparing to launch, but they already have a grand lineup of indie games scheduled for launch, more than Microsoft will have with the Xbox One following their indie game fiasco.

In the coming months PS4 will pick up more titles and we are going to see all the best and biggest come to Sony’s new platform, but they will also be heading to the Xbox One. What Sony really needs to do is pick up on the pace on the other areas Microsoft is currently pushing resources into, including the Kinect and TV.

Sony teases 24 exclusive titles for the PS4 launch

October 25, 2013 By Lori David Leave a Comment

ps4The PS4 is drawing ever closer and despite some problems with shipping delays on Amazon and other retailers the company is still ready for the biggest launch in the past decade, dwarfing the previous console generation.

Even though the PS4 has crushed the Xbox One on current pre-orders, Sony still feels like they still need to brag about exclusives on the platform, the one place they may be trumped by Microsoft who have picked up a collection of video game studios.

There will be 24 exclusive titles on the PS4, some are from big household studios like KillZone: Shadow Fall, Driveclub, The Order 1886, Infamous: Second Son and Knack. There are some others in the mix and the launch lineup looks pretty decent.

Comparing it to the Xbox One, it does seem a little lacklustre, with Microsoft grabbing Crimson Dragon, Dead Rising 3, Fable Legends, Forza Motorsport 5, Killer Instinct, Ryze: Son of Rome, Quantum Break and Sunset Overdrive.

The exclusives may be one reason to buy a console, but the biggest games will be coming out on both machines and we have a huge list of titles for the late-2013 to early 2014 launch, including DayZ, Final Fantasy XV: A Realm Reborn, Battlefield 4, The Crew, The Elder Scrolls Online, Thief, Watch Dogs, Destiny and a whole load of other top games.

This is the season for games and we are sure a lot of studios are putting their finest hours into creating content for the new consoles. Ubisoft have been particularly frantic about the new console launches, developing around half a dozen games around the launch period, including four of the top games.

Sony and Microsoft will be launching their next generation consoles on November. The early days may be won by Sony, but we can see the Xbox One appealing to a lot of fans, especially if the company manages to grab more exclusives.

PS 4 Release Date – Sony to Launch PlayStation 4 on 13th November?

July 21, 2013 By Nicholas Anderton 27 Comments

PlayStation is one of the most awaited tech gadgets of the year. Even though its counterpart Xbox One seems to be a better device, PlayStation fans are waiting for the PS4 to come out in the stands. The speculations on the release date of PlayStation are going around like a wild fire. We are only few months away from the launch of PlayStation 4. Till now, Sony has not made any official announcement on PlayStation 4 release date.

sony-playstation-4-xl

The Xbox One which seems to be much promising device is expected to come out in the market first. If it happens, Xbox One can certainly win over PS4. The next generation Xbox, the Xbox One is no longer a gaming console but a complete family entertainer that allows you to watch cable TV programs on it. Hence, PS4 has to come out before Xbox One so that it gains control over the market.

PS4 release date on one website which is pretty confident about the launch, claims that the gaming console will be available for purchase on November 13th. The date has been declared by the website after two European retail outlets confirmed on the said date. Through this we can understand that the Sony gaming console will have an edge of around two weeks over Microsoft’s Xbox One. The Amazon.com states that the Xbox One will be out in the market on November 27.

Sony has recently the game titles that can be enjoyed on the PS4. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Fifa 14, Madden NFL 25, NBA 2K14, Watch Dogs, and few more. Apart from these, even other games like Daylight, Need for Speed: Rivals, The Crew, The Witness, Transistor and War Thunder are some of the titles that are expected to come to Sony PS4.

The Sony PlayStation 4 comes with powerful hardware specs. It is powered by an x86 CPU with 8 cores, 1.84 TFLOPS GPU, and memory of 8GB GDDR5. It comes with Blu-ray/DVD drive, USB 3.0, Ethernet and v2.1 Bluetooth. On the PS4 eye accessory, you will find two cameras and four microphones.

On the new PS4, you will be able to update the system and download games while you enjoy playing your favorite game. Your game play sessions can be streamed and you will be able to make small clips that you will be able to share with your friends over the PS network. Through PS Vita, you will be able to play games remotely. The DualShock 4 controller is what you get with the PS4. It comes with dedicated buttons like share, touchpad and lightbar.

So far the presales of the PS4 has been very impressive. The PS4’s price is going to be less than the price of PS3 when it was launched. Also, the PS4 price will be less than that of Xbox One. The PS4 is going to be released in US and then it will rolled out in European countries. So there is a possibility that PS4 will be available in North America during the last two weeks of October or very early in November. We will have to wait to hear the official news on the PS4 release date from Sony.

PS4 Release Date – Sony Playstation 4 will be Launched in November

July 11, 2013 By David Crozier 2 Comments

Sony seems to have confirmed its PS4 release date by posting an image of the gadget on Twitter, making it appear the next gen gaming console will release in early November. Also, what makes November appear great for the release of the console is that it will give sufficient time for Sony to get the console in the hands of the consumer as well as to finish off the first lot before replenishing the stock well before the arrival of the holidays. Also of course, a release in early November will allow Sony to match up with the Xbox One that is also rumored to launch in November.

PS4-release-date

Sony’s revelation of the release date of its gaming console has come in the most interesting manner, with an analogy drawn with a unique celestial event set to happen during November. Sony has come up with an image of an eclipse with the words When Worlds Collide in their Twitter account. The teaser also doesn’t follow any particular game, which makes one believe that Sony is starting off a marketing strategy for PS4.

Meanwhile, 3rd of November is the date of total solar eclipse in Europe, Asia, North America and others. According to the image, it is expected that 3rd of November is the release date for PS4 or even could mark the starting off of a campaign which might lead to the release of PS4. November 3rd, a Sunday, cannot be ruled out for as the release date for PS4, although Sony previously has launched PS3 in North America on a Friday. A Sunday release might even put Amazon behind on delivery and might also give a lead to the GameStop that has sold out of the PS4 pre ordered stock. However a previous leak has mentioned 13th November as the PS4 release date. The news came from some other retailers and not Sony.

Sony previously has also released PS3 in North America before Europe, both these dates might hold some truth. As the PS3 release happened months later, a closer date of release does make sense. Sony has yet to confirm the launching date of PS4, but it appears we are in the midst of more confusion as more images flows in.
