The latest addition to Samsung’s tablet range could be the Galaxy Note 8.0, which is likely
to compete with Apple’s iPad mini. A report from the SamMobile website says that the new
tablet is likely to be launched at the Mobile World Congress to be held in Barcelona in Feb
2013.

Expected in both Wi-Fi and cellular versions, the new tablet will run on Android 4.2 Jelly
Bean, Google’s latest mobile OS. But there is no information about the processor that will be
used. Chances are that Samsung’s new quad-core Exynos chips will be used.

The 8-inch tablet will feature a Super Clear LCD with remarkable resolution of 1280 x 800
pixels, slightly higher than Apple’s iPad mini. It will have a 5 MP rear camera and a 1.3 MP
front camera. It is also expected to come with 2 GB RAM and two storage capacities – 16 GB
or 32 GB. The slate will feature a MicroSD port.

The new addition to the Galaxy Note range is also comparable to the 7-inch Amazon Kindle
Fire HD and Nexus 7. So far, Samsung has released 5-inch tablets – Galaxy Note and Galaxy
Note II – and a 10.1-inch model.

As with all the Galaxy line products, the new tablet will come with the S-Pen stylus for digital
ink work. The digital pen is a valuable feature that sets Samsung apart from other brands.
The company has indeed developed some of the best mobile apps that are quite pen-
friendly.

Samsung is trying to make a mark by developing Android devices with innovative software
and hardware. Larger screens and higher resolutions on Android tablets is something
impressive. Innovation, coupled with impressive features such as multi-window app usage,
renders the much-needed competitive edge to compete with Apple’s mobile devices.
That said a Galaxy Note 8.0 may cause potential iPad mini buyers to give some thought to
Samsung’s tablets.
