Samsung has announced Friday that it has finished development of the Galaxy Xcover 2. The specs and features of this phone are geared towards people who spend a lot of time outdoors. It is a durable device that is resistant to the elements and has a very long battery life. It’s durable design means it won’t break if you drop it while hiking, but be careful not to loose it down a cliff. It’s sturdy, but its not invincible.

The Galaxy Xcover 2 is sand proof and dust proof, meaning it is virtually scratch proof. It is also water proof, for up to thirty minutes and down to three feet of water. While this doesn’t mean you can call your sister while scuba diving, it does mean you can take some pretty cool underwater pictures with the Xcover 2’s 5MP camera.

 

In addition to these structural integrities, Samsung’s Galaxy Xcover 2 also has a state of the art version if Google Maps with an enhanced GPS/GLONASS positioning system. GPS is the American used tracking system and GLONASS is the Russian version. Used together, these two systems produce very average results for a hiker wondering just how far they are from the Canadian border.

The flashlight on the Galaxy Xcover 2 is very powerful, allowing owners to light up any dark places they may encounter on their travels, and has a 1700 mAh batter with a life span of an incredible 570 hours.

Additionally, the Galaxy Xcover 2 has a cardio training program that will allow users to create and manage their own training programs. This means that the Xcover 2 is great for outdoor and fitness enthusiasts even when indoors. The version 4.0 Bluetooth is supposed to reach other Bluetooth devices at an astounding 164 feet as well, while other devices begin to loose signal at 15 feet.
No release date or price has been set by Samsung for the Galaxy Xcover 2 yet. We will have to wait for our chance to go hiking with it.
