Australian Airline Qantas Will Employ Samsung’s New Gear VR Headsets

January 29, 2015 By David Crozier Leave a Comment

Australian Airline Qantas Will Employ Samsung's New Gear VR Headsets A new collaboration between Samsung and Australian airline Qantas will offer travelers flying with Qantas the option to unwind in virtual reality. Qantas will employ Samsung’s new Gear VR headsets to assess how travelers like virtual reality as in-flight stimulation, which will enable passengers to watch films, make virtual tours, and even “experience an A380 landing from the tarmac”.Qantas is likewise collaborating with Jaunt, the virtual reality group that recorded a Paul McCartney show for VR, to make extra real life content.

This is the first run when an air transport provider has offered virtual reality during flights. The venture makes sense, though. Passengers prefer tuning out while flying and diving into virtual reality is a good way to make individuals overlook they’re flying in a crowded plane. Obviously, passengers are not going to look exceptionally cool with any sort of virtual reality headset on their head but the same could be said in regards to voyaging neck cushions, and individuals still wear those constantly.

While virtual reality devices like Oculus Rift need a gaming machine to work, the Gear VR is fueled by a Galaxy Note 4 cell phone, which implies travelers won’t need to tinker with any strings or connections.

Qantas is only giving a predetermined number of Gear VR headsets to travelers, and you’ll have to be flying with a first class ticket on “select flights” between Australia and Los Angeles. The VR devices will be introduced in March. For those looking to relax during their stops, Qantas is additionally making the VR headsets accessible to those in the Sydney or Melbourne International First Lounges.

Created in a joint effort with the Oculus VR group, the same organization Facebook purchased for $2 billion, the Gear VR looks a ton like a white Oculus Rift headset. Interestingly enough, there’s really no showcase inside the Gear VR itself. The headset depends on the display from the Note 4 to bring the experience to life, and the Note 4’s battery for ‘fuel’.

Samsung reported that the mobile can give users 2 hours of Gear VR time. However it’s imperative to know that the Gear VR is an alternate, more open type of virtual reality. It may not be the comprehensive VR encounter that the Oculus Rift is going for,  but Samsung’s utilization of the Oculus portable platform will extend VR’s  reach, regardless of the fact that that it is actually a distinctive equipment.
