The new suitcase can follow you around using a high-resolution imaging sensor.
Tailing suitcases will soon hit the market, guaranteeing that you won’t have to lift a finger in order to carry your stuff around the airport. The concept has launched by NUA Robotics, an Israeli robotics company, at this year’s CES.
Ever think about changing your ordinary travel suitcase? If so, then you’re probably on the lookout for models incorporating the latest technology in mobility. Most of them have the 360 wheel movement capability, but that won’t be of much help to you if your hands are full of stuff.
Imagine having to carry your heavy-duty luggage in one hand and using your other hand in order to answer your ringing smartphone. It is rather uncomfortable, isn’t it?
But, according to NUA Robotics, you won’t have to worry about your luggage any longer. The robotics company has devised a smart suitcase which is capable of following around its owner wherever he goes.
The tailing suitcases will soon hit the market, ensuring that you won’t have to strain yourself too much with that heavy luggage.
So, what’s this all about a smart luggage? Basically, the case looks like any other luggage: it’s compact, it has wheels and a handle. But underneath the hood is where the magic takes place.
The smart luggage is equipped with a high-resolution imaging sensor, which helps the case navigate through the environment. The smart pack uses that data collected from the sensor in order to navigate around certain obstacles while making sure it remains in your proximity.
NUA Robotics also equipped the smart case with several proximity sensors that ensure your smart case won’t bump into any obstacles encountered on the way. Moreover, in order to facilitate communication between the user and case, the manufacturer added another feature to the gizmo.
According to their statements, you can pair off the case with your phone, via a Bluetooth connection. The case will then send relevant information to your phone such as weight, location and, of course, battery level.
If your device is low on battery, then fret not! The luggage comes equipped with several power outlets, which are compatible with any phone or device charger.
Also, the device has several anti-theft systems, which prevents thieves from taking off with your valuables.
The tailing suitcases will soon hit the market, but it may be later than we anticipated. According to Alex Libman, NUA’s CEO and co-founder, the company is planning on delivering the product to the market sometime next year.
Libman did not make any statements as to the price of such a product or its autonomy.
