Many would agree that the best two smartphones in the world at this moment are the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the Sony Xperia Z2. They were both launched this month at the Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona and both seem to be quite similar in specs and appearance. We’re going to take a closer look at these two, Samsung Galaxy S5 vs the Sony Xperia Z2 and let you know who comes out a winner. We’ve done a review on the Samsung Galaxy S5, so take a look and come right back.
Samsung Galaxy S5 vs the Sony Xperia Z2: Design
When it comes to design, we must say that the Sony Xperia Z2 comes out a winner, even though, at 8.1 mm thick, it is 0.1mm thicker than the Samsung Galaxy S5, it looks amazing. Samsung’s mistake when it came to the body of its flagship smartphone was that it didn’t make it out of metal, but kept it plastic. This gives it a cheap feel and makes it less resistant to drops and scratches.
Both phones are waterproof, but Samsung recommends that you don’t submerge the S5, while Sony encourages you sink down to up to 1.5 meters and take pictures with it. Clearly Sony wins in this department.
Samsung Galaxy S5 vs the Sony Xperia Z2: Screen
Both smartphones have a 5.2’’ display, but the Samsung Galaxy S5 has a Super AMOLED Full HD screen, while the Sony Xperia Z2 has a Full HD Trilluminous IPS display. What does this mean? Decide for yourself, AMOLED screens are less faithful than IPS screens, but they have better contrast and manage to save more power while in Ultra Power Saving Mode.
Samsung Galaxy S5 vs Sony Xperia Z2: Camera
Sony Xperia Z2 has a 20.7MP main camera and a 2.2MP front-facing camera, while the Samsung Galaxy S5 has a 16MP main camera and a 2.0MP front-facing camera. If you were to judge solely on the pixels, the Sony Xperia is clearly a winner, but there’s more to taking a good picture than pixels. The Galaxy has a new Hybrid AF system that is found in DSLR cameras, and a Selective Focus mode, where you can shoot photos and then be able to change focus after you take them. The Sony Xperia Z2 has a Exmor RS camera with Sony G Lens and Sony Bionz and it can’t get better than that, to be honest. Both record 4k video that you can watch on Ultra HD television or laptop screens.
Samsung Galaxy S5 vs Sony Xperia Z2: Technical Specifications
The Samsung Galaxy S5 has a slightly faster processor speed and the Sony Xperia Z2 has a better battery and 3GB of RAM, while the S5 only has 2GB. When it comes to tech specs, the two smartphones are really similar and you can’t really feel the difference while holding the two.
