Google has just announced that it will launch a new app that will be available in Google Play Store. The new app is called Live Channels for Android TV and will allow the users to watch live TV shows on their Android TVs. The new app will let users watch movies, sports and other TV shows streamed from various channels.
The channels compatible with the new Live Channels for Android TV app come from built-in tuners and tuners that are based on IP. All the channels will be shown instantly on all Android TV devices.
The users who are trying to download the new Live Channels for Android TV app should know that it is not yet available for smartphones or tablets. Google did not say when this will happen, but some tech blogs predict that the new app will be available soon on all smart devices.
The new Live Channels for Android TV does not allow the user to tap into the network right away because it requires some special hardware in order to work. There is a description on Google Play Store that says the new app for Android TV supports streaming only from channel sources that are based on IP or have built-in tuners. If the user has any of these channel sources, the app will stream the content on the Android TV instantly.
Once installed properly, the new Live Channels for Android TV app will provide special features like “picture in picture”, closed picture captioning, customized channel setting and parental control. The new Live Channels for Android TV app runs only on devices that have Android Lollipop OS and the upcoming versions of it.
With the latest Live Channels for Android TV app Google is trying to expand the market for Android TV. Some tech experts believe that one of the main challenges of the new Google app for Android TV will be to find enough content to show and to develop the app’s ecosystem.
Although the new Live Channels for Android TV does not work on a Nexus Player at the moment, it still allows the users to watch all their favorite live programming.
