Titan: The Fastest Supercomputer in the World

October 31, 2012 By David Crozier Leave a Comment

After leaving the show for Germany, Japan and China, U.S. is now bracing up to take over the show once again with her gigantic supercomputer, Titan which will be the fastest running computer on earth. A reliable source has it that Titan has been upgraded and will be actively in operation on this coming Monday.

Titan will beat off the DOE’s Sequoia supercomputer with this latest improvement. At last, Sequoia will surrender the honor for Titan as the fastest supercomputer in the world. Of course, Sequoia has been the king of supercomputers in the world for some time now.

This sounds like enough breakthroughs for U.S. Sure! Titan has many great advantages to offer the country through their scientists. For instance, this is an enough opportunity for U.S. to add more tools to its security patterns. Titan will surely be of very good use especially now that U.S. is on the verge of hurricane disaster. The benefits don’t end there. Titan really has plethora of fortunes to offer the country. Kudos, U.S.!

Titan’s central processing unit is amazing. AMD is the brain behind it. Though formerly the supercomputer used to have 224,256 memories, but the latest upgrade makes it to climb to 299,008. Its graphics processing units which was made by Nvidia is 18, 688. The GPU and CPU work together, that is, the graphic processing unit accelerates the central processing unit. This is still amazing. Titan is said to have the exact number of computing cabinets and nodes as Jaguar with a third central processors. Hence, it is greater than Jaguar.

However, there are some challenges to face with regard to power consumption. Apparently, these challenges will slightly increase this time around compare to what Titan’s predecessor used to demand in terms of power. But the good news is that the management behind this scientific breakthrough is ready to carter for its demands and is also set to maximize it for enough profits.

According to a reliable source, they are not relenting. Instead, they are buckling up again to storm the world with a higher supercomputer which is believed will replace the present Titan by 2016 with the speed upgraded ten times when the time comes.
