Windows 10 Updates Becoming More Persistent

March 14, 2016 By Nicholas Anderton Leave a Comment

Windows 10 has not had a smooth release

Just like any other operating system launch, Windows 10 has not had a smooth release, without some ups and downs too. First there was the selective method of pushing the newest Microsoft operating system; then there were plenty of bugs that people were getting when trying to update. The confusing way serial keys worked, the infamous ‘Something happened’ error and last but not least, the sneaky ‘ninja’ updates to Windows 10 – where people realized the new OS had been installed on their machines without consent.

The last one of these problems had left a lot of users unhappy, naturally, but seemed that they had mostly stopped for a while; at least until this weekend. After several months of being a fairly quiet front, Friday marked the day when Microsoft suddenly started receiving an enormous amount of complaints all of a sudden coming from Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users who had their systems upgraded without consent.

But Microsoft’s inbox was not the only place where unhappy users related their stories of very poorly timed and unfortunate updates. Reddit was another website that boomed with users who had to go through the most regrettable updating experiences at the end of last week. Some even relate how – at the time of update – they were already using their computers, hadn’t clicked on any confirmation box when the computer simply started closing all of its programs and proceeding to reboot in order to install Windows 10, with zero prior notification of it or at least a method of declining it.

While it’s a huge discomfort when this happens to you at home, the more disastrous effects were felt by companies, doctor’s offices and other facilities that require their systems to function. While some were less unfortunate and were only stuck waiting around for around half an hour to be able to use their computers, others ended up being brutally told that they needed to enter a password that they had set years ago and had no recollection of or access to.

There is a huge debate ongoing at the very moment regarding this issue, with Microsoft defending itself by indirectly shifting the blame on the user for not paying attention to how those selected their update settings, some of the ‘victims’ have found some irregularities in the system that they believe is the true culprit. Several individuals who got hit by the unexpected Windows 10 Update hammer claim and support their allegations via screenshots and logs that Windows kept turning updates on despite them manually unchecking the Windows 10 option for example.

No current fix is currently known, other than downright turning every single system update on if you want to avoid a forced update to the latest Microsoft Operating system.

Windows 10 Adoption Rate In Decline despite Its Constant Improvement

March 2, 2016 By Daniel Giordano Leave a Comment

Windows 10 Adoption Rate

It is very well known that Microsoft’s approach to Windows 10 was wildly different from the very first moment the company sat down and started putting on paper what their next operating system was going to be like and that’s surely something that affected the way the Windows 10 adoption rate evolved up until now. The OS itself is different from its predecessor in the way it works and the way it looks, and is made to be a lot like what the users asked for.

Even its release and adoption policy was very different than the previous iterations of Windows too. Instead of putting a price tag on it and throwing it on the shelves – retail or otherwise – Microsoft wanted it users to try out and experience the achievement that was Windows 10. As a result, they promised to remove said price tag from it as long as users agree to upgrade from their previous operating systems within a year.

And that was fine. With an entire year ahead of you, there was no pressure to upgrade your operating system right away. Unless – similarly to what happened in several cases at least – Microsoft decided to take the liberty of installing the files needed for Windows 10 on your computer without even asking. Sure, you’d still need to give away the final OK, but the files were there, taking space.

An end of the year report said that by December 2015, the operating system had been successfully installed and adopted on more than 220 million computers. Considering this was less than half a year into its life and past all the difficulties that plenty of individuals encountered when attempting to upgrade, that is quite the number.

And yet, Microsoft was nowhere near its 1 billion host computers target. Things continued to change on Microsoft’s end: they announced they were ending support for previous Windows versions first, with only Windows 8.1 making it out alive and still on the list. That implied that while you could still use your operating system version of choice, you would no longer be receiving security signature updates.

And now, Microsoft is announcing a new feature that is here to act as an incentive for individuals to upgrade to Windows 10. The service in question is called Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection and represents a built-in tool that not only prevents attacks but is also capable of acting on the spot and remediate the breaches that it can find, when they exist.

And yet, reports show that the rate of adoption of the new Microsoft operating system is actually starting to decline. As a matter of fact, it has started declining in the last month of last year. Is this the largest extent that the offers Windows 10 has for us can take it to?

Microsoft Delays Windows 10 Update For Older Lumias

December 20, 2015 By Daniel Giordano Leave a Comment

"Microsoft Delays Windows 10 Update For Older Lumias "

The update is expected to roll in starting in January 2016.

Everyone is getting worked out on getting the new Windows 10 update. Whether it’s for you PC or for your phone, you’ll be sure to get a real kick out of your new OS. Unfortunately, not all of us are so lucky. Microsoft delays Windows 10 update for older Lumias, reason remaining yet unknown.

According to several top-ranking mobile device sites, the only phones from the Lumia family that are able to run the newest operating systems are Lumia 950XL and Lumia 950. But, we should not fret or get enraged, because we do have a piece of good news for you.

Sources inside Microsoft have revealed that the tech giant in planning on shipping the new update after the first half of January. But it would seem that only a few Lumia models will be eligible to receive the new update. That doesn’t look to good for Microsoft’s target regarding Windows 10 users.

Since it was launched, we can state for a fact that the new operating system has managed to turn a few heads. Compared to 8.1 and 8, Windows 10 could be easily be construed as a truly mind blowing event. So much power at your fingertips and yet so little resources.

Windows 10 could virtually run on any computer provided that it supports an x64 architecture. What’s, even more, amazing is that Microsoft managed to deliver the same viability and stability as it did with Windows 7 with cutting back on resource consumption.

In terms of mobile users, we can clearly state that Microsoft has a lot of catching up to do. Moreover, it would seem that the tech giant has some fierce competition ahead when we take into consideration the total number of Android users and Microsoft’s projection for the next 3 years.

According to several official spokespersons from Microsoft, the company wants to increase the total number of mobile devices with Windows 10 to one billion by the end of 2018. As stated, Microsoft would have to get it together in order to achieve its goal.

And the latest announcement coming directly from the horse’s mouth might offset their plans of taking over the mobile device market.

We are unsure as to the date when the new updates will roll in. All we can say is that they will be available in January and only a couple of older versions of Lumia will be able to get it.

Nokia Lumia 950 Starts Selling Tomorrow with AT&T

No need to hold your breath anymore. Nokia Lumia 950 starts selling tomorrow with AT&T, available for preorder. The official start date is set on November 20th.

No need to hold your breath anymore. Nokia Lumia 950 starts selling tomorrow with AT&T, available for preorder. The official start date is set on November 20th.

At this moment AT&T is the only U.S. carrier that announced Lumia 950. Verizon and Sprint are out of the deal at this point, and news on T-Mobile selling Lumia 950 or Lumia 950XL are nowhere to be found for the moment. The certain thing is that Nokia Lumia 950 starts selling tomorrow with AT&T.

The first smartphones complete with Windows 10 are here. Lumia 950 is up for pre-order tomorrow. However, the larger and slightly better Lumia 950XL hasn’t been announced yet. Perhaps it would be wise to order that one from Microsoft or wait until Microsoft decides to expand availability, if it happens.

A quick recap on Lumia 950’s features. For starters, it packs of course a Qualcomm hexa-core Snapdragon 808 chipset. The phone also sports 3GB of RAM, making it level with for instance Moto X Pure. Moreover, with the separate display dock it offers the possibility to elegantly and effortlessly turn your phone into an actual mini-computer. Windows 10 plays a nice trick here.

Lumia 950 features a 5.2-inch WQHD screen. In addition, the 20 MP of this phone’s camera is bound to make Lumia 950 topple Lumia 1020 from fans’ favorite lists. So far, it adds to a pretty good choice in the Lumia portfolio.

The price for Lumia 950 with AT&T is set at 600 dollars without a contract. The carrier offers the possibility that the lump sum is divided in several monthly options, each with its quirks. However, to make the deal more bearable, AT&T is throwing in a Surface 3 as well.

This is the first time in almost two years that Microsoft is releasing a flagship Windows phone. In 2013, AT&T also announced the Lumia 1520.

How Desired The New Windows 10 Is

October 11, 2015 By Lori David Leave a Comment

Microsoft made the declaration yesterday, showing how desired the new Windows 10 is.

How Desired The New Windows 10 Is

You might have seen the major hype that Windows 10’s release caused last summer, but have you ever wondered how far the new operating system went? It appears that it’s quite a blast, running on around 110 million devices all over the world. Microsoft made the declaration yesterday, showing how desired the new Windows 10 is. But it’s not all about the hype, it’s about Microsoft’s efforts too.

Ever since they released Windows 10, Microsoft mentioned that one of their major goals is to make it run on the majority, if not all, of the compatible devices in the world. PCs, tables, phones and other devices are encouraged to try the new operating system, making things a lot smoother, faster and keeping all your information safe across all platforms. A worthy vision, but also a dangerous one.

Microsoft is also pushing its operating system forward with the new devices that they are releasing. The Surface Pro Tablet, the Surface book and the Lumia smartphones are all running Windows 10, ensuring that it is widely spread as fast as possible. There is still a lot of ground to cover, but given the fact that the user number almost doubled within a month, things are looking pretty good for Microsoft. People are getting it and that is how desired then new Windows 10 is.

Windows 10’s major downside is that it stores your information permanently. It “gives feedback” to Microsoft about the apps you are using, sites you are accessing and whatever else you decide on your device. The worst part is that you cannot control this, since this detail is mentioned in the terms of use.  If you are using Windows 10, you already agreed to have all your information exported, which is kind of freaky if you think about it.

Of course, Microsoft promises discression and that they will never give your name or personal information to anyone else, but the truth is that you never know what can happen behind the behind the scenes. Microsoft can sell your information to anybody who is willing to pay for it. It creates “user profiles” that reflect their preferences. From that to giving your name there is only one more step.

So there is another angle from which we can look at this news. One hundred and ten million users do not really have privacy on their devices anymore. And it looks like more and more of us are going to try and sell our private life for extra comfort.

Microsoft Windows 10’s Arrival

August 1, 2015 By David Crozier Leave a Comment

Microsoft Windows 10’s Arrival

Microsoft Windows 10’s Arrival

The much-expected Windows 10 was launched on Wednesday night by Microsoft.

The most thrilling feature is that it will be available as a free upgrade for Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 in 190 countries.

The operating system is designed to work on desktops, laptops and smartphones, rivaling on a great scale with Apple and Google Inc. in the mobile domain.

Capital Markets analyst Daniel Ives said that Windows 10 is bound to open up new pathways for the Windows business.

The Windows 10 interface is to be enhanced with search and gaming capabilities, these features generating additional income to the Microsoft Corporation.

Fortunately for some, Windows 10 brings back the start button, whereas Windows 8 had discarded it by introducing its now familiar layout. Thus, this is a satisfactory feature for those unimpressed with Windows 8.

Windows 10 also comes with a new characteristic, Microsoft’s newest browser – ‘Edge.’

On July 29th PC’s and tablets running Windows 10 will undergo sale, whereas the operating system will be made available on other devices (such as smartphones) later this year.

The company is expecting to have 1 billion devices running Windows 10 in 2-3 years.

Windows 10 is important to Microsoft’s future, because it permits users to switch back to their previous operating system, while giving a signal to people to try the brand new style as well.

Even the beta version of Windows 10 seems like a reliable and solid operating system.

It’s worth mentioning that the new pack of Office apps for Windows 10 will be launched this summer.

As a 180 degrees turn, Microsoft 10 will be available for purchase via USB sticks, instead of the classic discs that have defined the company’s image for many years now.

Window 10’s digital assistant Cortana is bound to make everything easier for future users of this operating system.

You can take the time to tell her your interests, and thus, Cortana will be able to adjust your preferences accordingly – for specific news topics, alerts and even the types of restaurants you like.

Another aspect of Windows 10 is that multiple desktops have infiltrated the platform, while you can summon as many virtual desktops as your hardware can handle.

However, if you yearn for Windows 8’s start screen, that wouldn’t be an issue, as Cortana can guide you through the process of selecting Tablet Mode.

Last but not least, the mandatory restarts for updates to be fulfilled can indeed be scheduled.

More Updates About the New Windows 10 Tomorrow

January 20, 2015 By Nicholas Anderton Leave a Comment

windows 10A few months back, Windows 10 released to the public some details about the new software. This Wednesday, the company is holding a public event in order to present all Windows 10 specifications. The audience will receive more updates about the new Windows 10 tomorrow.

The software titan Microsoft Company has prepared an event which will be held in Redmond, Washington. At the company’s headquarters, Microsoft will provide more details about Windows 10 highlights and how it will work on laptops, phones, tablets, even gaming consoles such as Xbox One.

Last fall, Microsoft offered some information about Windows 10 and its user interface. Tomorrow will be a consumer-focused event so people will be getting a closer look to how the software is running with real computer or phones.

The primary source interface that Windows 10 will operate with is Cortana. It has been rumored that Cortana which is Microsoft’s assistant will be part of windows 10. Well, now the rumors will be official. Being part of the primary source interface, Cortana will also integrate in the browser a well as other applications.

On Wednesday, Microsoft will also prove why it is better to use a single application on phones, tablets, TV’s or computers. Universal applications seem to be the highlight of Microsoft. They will prepare a set of examples regarding powerful universal applications as Microsoft believes them to be the future in software.

However, not many details will be given about that single Store app. It will be further developed at a conference in April. Windows 10 benefits from that single Store feature as well. This feature encourages end users to purchase only one application to run across laptop, tablet, phone etc. It will also be a lot easier for developers to produce one application for one store.

Another futuristic characteristic providing Windows 10 is OneDrive. This drive allows applications to stay up-to-date at all times, no matter the platform. Microsoft is considering providing developers with store settings and syncing app data to run through OneDrive on phones, tablets, laptops.

Furthermore, the Continuum interface was only mentioned back in September, allowing its developers to further detail on the subject. The concept authorizes laptops to function with a keyboard or trackpad that will convert them into a touch-mode. The Continuum will allow laptops to include a pen-based input as well while benefiting from a finger-friendly mode.
