Telltale Games, the independent video games developer is reportedly going through some restructuring. Because of this, the company has had to let go of around 25 percent of its employees or 90 staff members. The changes were revealed through media reports.
Telltale Games Restructuring but Still Continuing Its Projects
Telltale Incorporated, better known as Telltale Games is an independent video game publisher and developer that was founded in 2004. The company is known for its creations that focus on episodic gaming and graphic adventure game series.
These are based on licensed properties from comics, movies, television, as well as other video games. Tales from the Borderland and the Walking Games are among their most famous games.
According to media reports, the developer and publisher has been laying off some of its workforces as it is reportedly restructuring. The developer indirectly confirmed the news as it announced that none of its ongoing and future projects should be affected by the reduction.
Before the wave of layoffs, the company numbered around 400 staff members. Now, some 25 percent of them have been fired, which immediately affected 90 people.
“The realities of the environment we face moving forward demand we evolve, as well, reorienting our organization with a focus on delivering fewer, better games with a smaller team,” Telltale Games’ CEO, Pete Hawley, was reported as stating.
He then continued by pointing out that the wave of layoffs has been a hard decision to take. One that also does not ‘reflect’ neither the quality, nor the dedication of the respective staff members, but just the changing trends.
The company stated that it is offering “full career assistance services” and its support to those that have been laid off.
Telltale Games also declared that the current restructuring should not intervene with any of its already announced future video game projects. The restructuring should also make the company more “competitive” as both a developer and a publisher.
