World of Warcraft will be launching its Legion expansion in mid-2016 and the Demon Hunter class is one of the most anticipated classes in the game’s history. Luckily enough, people who were granted access to the game’s alpha stage were allowed to stream or record their game footage and we could see some of the class’ unique abilities. We also had some minor character interactions which revealed the role of the most important, if not the most important, protagonists in the game: Illidan Stormrage.
To begin with, The Demon Hunters are exactly as we knew they were going to be: only available for the dark elf or blood elf classes, blind, with horns or customizable wings, masters of Fel magic and occasionally being given the ability to transform into a demon. Another interesting feature that we have never seen before in the game is the triple jump for this class, which is actually a double jump with a glide. After having jumped 2 times, the player can tap the space bar once again to glide with demon wings.
Despite being brought back by Gul’dan, it looks like Illidan Stormrage dedicates his life to Azeroth once more. The quest that alpha players are conduction involves a Demon Hunter looking for an artifact with the guidance of Illidan Stormrage. Illidan reveals from the beginning that the artifact is key “to defeating the Burning Legion”. Even after years of imprisonment and even falling to madness, the still seems to be enough “humanity” left in Illidan to save Azeroth from the currupting Legion.
While we do not yet know how Blizzard adapted the story in order for us to have Illidan back, we can expect to see some old faces once again. Blizzard’s theme starting with Warlords of Draenor is that history repeats itself, but not really. While Archimonde was defeated once more, the Burning Legion is still a threat to Azeroth and we will most likely see another Warcraft Reign of Chaos environment with characters like Malfurion Stormrage, Tyrande Whisperwind, Thrall and Jaina.
The Demon Hunter class is one of the most anticipated classes in the game and it offers players a new play style with a lot of mobility, a lot of damage and not to mention a cool look and interesting feeling of being neither on the good, nor the bad side, but still fighting for the good side. There have been rumors that Legion will be launched either in mid-2016 or even Fall 2016, but we honestly hope for a faster launch.
