Experts point out to the prospects of Apple for the next year, now that 2016 is going towards its end. With its Mac lineup from 2016, the company indicates that is bound to produce and sell more iPhone and iPads. The new features distinct from the ones of the 2016 MacBook Pro, like a keyboard with about 0.55mm of travel, memory card and USB slots and MagSafe charger represent everything that the iPad lacks.
What is more, the new updates which were brought to the same device, like a TouchBar, a display equipped with a wider color range and light, thinner, all-metal chassis, are characteristics which the iPad already has. All the efforts which were made by Apple this year with its new Macs were meant to discourage old buyers from using their laptops or PCs and familiarizing more with the new technology.
The result is that MacOS is rapidly turning into a legacy software, being a reconsideration on its way transforming into abandonware. A report filed on December 21 points out the same ideas. The company explicitly shows that it prioritized the iPhone, re-evaluating its software engineering department and it has decided to dissolve the operating system team responsible for Mac.
Now Apple has a single design team, most of the employees being iOS first, empowering more those who are working on the development of iPad and iPhone. This rearrangement of their priorities appears to be more noticeable especially on the changes made by the company during the last years. Final Cut Pro X represents a simplification of the video-editing software used by Apple which managed to steer away from many pros.
What is more, the professional photo editor app was also replaced by a more simplified and universal photo editor. Siri managed to make its way from iOS to MacOS, being followed by Touch ID and also by a new range of controls introduced in the Touch Bar. Apple’s Continuity, which represents the big user-facing changeover to MacOS, was specifically designed to make Macs even better when it comes to collaborating and communicating with iOS devices.
It might be debatable that Apple is merging its two operating systems into a single one, but the decision will be made considering the company’s will to develop iOS into a better one, also carrying MacOS along.
