Hearthstone fans are in for some bad news today, or tomorrow, as one of the best, most dominant, extraordinary cards that the game has ever seen will be smashed to smithereens. You probably heard of it, or even used it a couple of times, but get prepared for the Warsong Commander’s demise. We know, it is a tragedy, so we want to take a moment and remember the fallen cards.
The Warsing Commander was one of the best cards in Hearthstone, specifically because it would synergize well with two very famous cards. This would basically give the player who holds the Warsong Commander and the Grim Patron endless defense and offense and rendering the enemy player useless against its might. In case you haven’t figured it out yet, the deck we are talking about is the Patron Warrior.
In case you are a newcomer and unfamiliar with Hearthstone, this is how it works: the Warsong Commander has a specific requirement and, if you meet it, your next card can attack immediately. In general, you have to wait one round after you summoned a card for it to work. The Grim Patron is a card that, when damaged, it summons another copy of itself. Now imagine that you have limitless copies and limitless offense. What can your opponent do?
There were a few ways to deal with it: some cards could wipe out the entire board or, in some good cases, all the Patron Warrior’s board, which could give the opponent an advantage, but it would come at a great cost, since options like these cost a lot of resources. The other option would have been to silence the Grim Patron when he was summoned. Silencing a card means that its unique feature could not be used anymore.
But these were exceptional situations that barely worked because you need a specific class to erase everything, or you need to be lucky enough for your delete to win card to drop in your hand. So people saw it fit to build Patron Warrior decks all over and it became a big thing. Needless to say, this does not exactly bring balance and fun to the game, so Blizzard had to do something about it.
The Warsong Commander’s demise comes by nerf and it will no longer have the same unique ability. Instead, it will just give 1 extra damage to cards that attack immediately. Rest in peace Warsong Commander, you will not be forgotten.
