How to Watch Netflix on TV – Streaming Devices and Smart TVs

By Leave a Comment

how to watch netflix on tv or on a mac

The streaming revolution is here with us, and if you haven’t yet joined the bandwagon, you are missing out on the fantastic content available online today. This article is all about how to watch Netflix on tv.

With Watch Instantly, Netflix’s video-on-demand streaming service, you will have instant access to a whole raft of the most buzzed about and on-demand movies, TV shows and series, documentaries, and so much more, without the problem of commercials that interrupt your normal television-viewing experience.

The best part is that you can watch everything on your big screen TV at home using different internet-connected devices. So, what routes can you take with regards to this?

How to Watch Netflix on TV: 5 Easy Ways

1. Laptop-HDMI Cable-TV Combo

This is one of the easiest ways to watch your favorite Netflix content on TV. To take this route, you need a laptop that has an HDMI output port, an HDMI cable, and your TV should have HDMI input.

Keep in mind that not all HDMI cables are designed the same, so make sure you have one that’s compatible with both your laptop and TV.

To watch TV shows and movies, stream on Netflix from your laptop. Thereafter, use the HDMI cable to establish a connection between your laptop and TV. Make sure your input mode on TV is set to HDMI.

If your TV has more than one HDMI input ports, make sure you set the right HDMI input mode on your TV. For example, if your TV has HDMI 1 and HDMI 2, and you have connected the HDMI cable to HDMI 2, you should select HDMI 2 as your input mode on TV.

Aside from allowing you to watch Netflix on a larger screen, the laptop-HDMI-TV setup can provide better picture quality. All you need to do is to use a high-quality cable.

2. Video Game Console

Virtually all newer models of gaming consoles come with a video streaming feature of some sort. With the right HDMI cable, you can connect your computer to your TV, and stream to Netflix.

At the moment, Netflix supports the following video games:

  • PlayStation 3
  • PlayStation 4
  • Xbox 360
  • Xbox One
  • Nintendo Wii
  • Nintendo Wii U

If you take this route on how to watch Netflix on tv, you’re definitely going to enjoy moving all the fun from your small desktop monitor to the big screen in your living room.

3. Smart TV

Is your TV smart? If it is, you won’t need any other device to tune in to your favorite TV episodes and must-watch movies.

Smart TVs work pretty much the same way as smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices that use an operating system, only that they are not as portable.

Like smartphones and tablets, Smart TVs can be connected to the internet and they use apps to function.

To know how to watch Netflix on TV, first, connect the TV to your home internet connection. Keep in mind that streaming on Netflix requires high-speed internet, so make sure you have enough bandwidth for uninterrupted viewing.

Once your TV is connected to the internet, open your TV apps and choose the Netflix app. If you don’t have this app, you can download and install it.

The rest is easy – simply log into your Netflix account and start streaming! This is how to watch Netflix on tv using Smart TV.

4. Chromecast

Like all other devices that use an operating system, Smart TVs can slow down and experience lagging. This can suck the fun out of time spent watching TV shows and movies on Netflix. Thankfully, there’s a way to avoid this – Google’s Chromecast.

The Chromecast is a small, handy dongle for streaming videos from smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices to your HDTV. It doesn’t require a lot of setups – you simply plug the gadget into your TV’s HDMI port, and control the streaming experience from your mobile device.

The biggest downside of Chromecast on how to watch Netflix on tv is that you’ll need a powerful wireless home network to stream video from Netflix.

If you have a newer HDTV model, you should check the user manual before purchasing Chromecast. Some TV’s already have the technology incorporated.

5. Miracast

Do you think the laptop-HDMI cable-TV or video game console options are a bit messy? Do you lack a high-speed home network? If yes, you’re definitely going to love the Miracast.

As the standard for wireless display and video streaming, Miracast is an ideal alternative to internet connections and HDMI cables.

It essentially allows you to mirror whatever you’re seeing on the display of one gadget to your TV screen, without the need for an internet connection or an HDMI cable.

To know how to watch Netflix on TV with Miracast, you need to have a TV, dongle, set-up box or TV stick that’s supported.

Apple Negotiating 4K Movie Pricing with Hollywood Studios

By Leave a Comment

Apple logo on a glass building
Apple Inc is reportedly negotiating 4K movies with Hollywood studios ahead of the official debut of its new 4K Apple TV in September. Even though the iPhone maker wants to offer the movies at a lower price than the competition, movie producers don’t share the enthusiasm.

Apple wants to sell 4k movies for $20 via iTunes, while Hollywood would rather sell them for $25 to $30. Cheaper 4k films could encourage customers to buy the new Apple TVs, which are hemorrhaging customers to cheaper alternatives like the Roku.

Movie executives don’t want to tell the tech giant how to price its iPads, but they don’t want to budge prices either. They know that the iPhone maker is losing ground rapidly to Amazon, so it is desperately seeking a successful negotiation. Hollywood, on the other hand, should realize that the movies’ pricing is exaggerated.

Consumers perceive 4k movies as an alternative to the 3D movies at the theaters, so producers see it as an opportunity to charge more for an enhanced product. Plus, 4k movies are too large for streaming or buffering, so downloading them is more convenient.

Americans Consuming More and More Content

Now that more and more people can play the movie format on their television sets, 4k movies can become an extra revenue stream. Unfortunately, Hollywood is about to blow this chance.

The movie rental business has sharply declined in recent years because of subscription services such as Netflix or Hulu. In the meantime, the West is consuming more and more content. According to a recent survey, the average American consumed 10.2 hours per day of media last year. By 2019, that figure is expected to rise by 21 minutes.

Moreover, in 2016, 736 new movies hit the U.S. theaters, which is twice as many than 16 years ago. People tend less to re-watch their favorite shows or place value or an individual piece of content. However, Hollywood is poised to take advantage of the consumers who really want to own their movies or shows to make up for the consumer mentality of the rest of the public.

By Leave a Comment

samsung smart tvs

Earlier this week, Samsung releases some details about its newest smart TVs.

Earlier this week, Samsung releases some details about its newest smart TVs. These will now include the QLED line of products and also The Frame.

Samsung released a statement about its newest smart TVs during a Global Launch Event taking place in Paris. It also offered additional details through a press release. This was posted on the official company page. In the release, Samsung also presented a series of other new devices.

The Frame Will Transform Smart TVs Into Art

Samsung’s The Frame was introduced as being “a new lifestyle TV”. Or even “a new way to look at TV”. The company first revealed its existence during CES 2017. However, it did not offer too many details. Now, the company offered the first information and product description.

The Frame will be based on innovative technology. This will allow it to enter “Art Mode” after it is closed. Through this feature, this smart TV will transition into a work of art instead of fading to black. The Frame TV will reportedly look like a picture frame when closed. One which users can change anytime they want.

They will be able to select their own, custom-designed digital artworks. The TV will be coming with over 100 art pieces divided into 10 different categories. These will include anything from landscapes to architecture. The Frame will also come with customizable accessories, for example, interchangeable bezels. It will also offer an optional Studio Stand.

As it presented its Art features, Samsung has yet to reveal its price, “smart features”, or available apps. However, it announced that The Frame will be released this Spring.

Samsung Announced The Availability Of Its QLED Smart TVs

The QLED line was presented as “ushering in a new era for television. These smart TVs were reportedly designed to address three key consumer demands. This led to the appearance of the “Qs”. These are the Q Style, Q Picture, and Q Smart. They are part of Samsung’s premium line of smart TVs. The QLED line will feature devices no smaller than 55 inches.

“With QLED TV, Samsung’s advances in Quantum dot technology provide our best picture quality ever-all while enhancing the way you live”.

This is according to Dave Das. He is the SVP Consumer Electronics Marketing for Samsung Electronics America.

Through their names, Samsung also distinguishes each product’s best feature. As such, Q Picture should offer the best available picture quality. The Q Style will come with new design elements. This should ensure a simpler, cleaner installation. Q Smart will be offering a smart and remote recommendation engine in a smart TV interface.

Additional details about the QLED line and The Frame can be accessed on the official Samsung press release. The company did reveal the QLED availability. These smart TVs will be released as soon as this week. In the summer, Samsung will also reveal their larger sized versions. The 2017 QLED TV lineup starting price will begin at $2,799.

Nvidia Will Launch an Android TV and an AI assistant

An Android TV

Nvidia announced new devices at CES 2017 such as an Android TV and an AI assistant.

At CES 2017, Nvidia is bound to announce the launch of many new devices such an AI assistant and an Android TV. The tech giant will also talk about its Volta car supercomputer. The CEO of the company, Jen-Hsun Huang, argued that the future of technology stands in artificial intelligence. He was glad to declare that this future which might have seemed distant is now the reality.

On December 4th, Huang announced his company new products in Las Vegas during CES show. He also wanted to point out that Nvidia stopped being just a computer graphics chipmaker. This company is bound to help people live in a smart world dominated by artificial intelligence and supercomputers, but also homes and cars which listen to your commands.

Among all the products mentioned by him, Huang also talked about the option to stream games to Facebook Live to an AI microphone designed to allow you to control the Google Assistant implemented into your new Nvidia Shield Android TV. This is a really revolutionary invention. He also stated these represent the most prosperous times when it comes to the development of computer industry.

He is incredibly grateful for the invention of artificial intelligence which changed our lives and made possible the technology to which we were previously only dreaming of. Nvidia became famous through its graphics chips computers. Nevertheless, over the past years, this tech company based in Santa Clara, California has developed to cover several markets and industries, like artificial intelligence and automotive.

The successful results obtained in these new industries ranked Nvidia as the best-performing stock last year considering the S&P 500. Back in 2013 at CES, Nvidia thrilled their fans with their first Shield gaming product. The gadget represented the first step of Nvidia into offering an actual device to its customers. Their performance reached its peak at a time when companies like Sony were working hard to compete with Apple.

Since back then, Nvidia launched gaming tablets, but also an Android TV streaming box. On January 4th, Huang presented the new products which work with Google Assistant. The updated version of their Shield Android TV was estimated to cost about $199. A new controller and a remote are included in this price.

An LG UltraFine Display Pairs Up with Apple’s MacBook

By Leave a Comment

LG logo

Users are thrilled by the collaboration between LG UltraFine Display and MacBook Pro.

The LG UltraFine Display has a great design, having a high-resolution screen, but also a plug-and-play connectivity suitable for your USB-C outfitted MacBook. There are exceptions, too. Unfortunately, the new display from LG it diminishes the charm of the MacBook Pro Touch Bar, and it does not use Thunderbolt 3. Those who own a screen like the one launched by LG then they already know how simple it can be to set it up.

You have to plug-in the power adapter first directly into the wall and then into the slot of the screen. Then, you need to use the USB-C cable to connect the MacBook to the right port located on the back of your display. The display is not equipped with buttons. Everything will automatically function. If you need to access the field settings, you will just need to use the MacOS to adjust the display.

The display is also equipped with stereo speakers, but no camera. Apple’s new device, the MacBook with USB-C offer the possibility to transmit through a cable audio, display, data and power. Thus, users no longer need to plug their MacBooks into the wall because the power is provided through the display using a cable.

This perfect collaboration between the new MacBook Pro with Touch Bar and the LG UltraFine Display just makes everything much easier for users. In a grant designed to allow the LG monitor to work with Apple’s MacBook, the LG UltraFine Display can transmit due to the USB-C protocol, not by using Thunderbolt 3.

This implies that if you connect your LG display to the latest MacBook, you will not be able to tap into the full likelihood of the Thunderbolt 3 USB-C port on your device. The 12-inch MacBook is outfitted with a single USB-C port for both data and charging. Unfortunately, the USB-C port cannot use Thunderbolt 3.

Thunderbolt 3 has its ups and downs too. Even if it allows you to perform transfers at a much higher speed, it is restrictive when it comes to the new MacBook Pro. The capabilities of the LG display are somehow limited because it transfers data and videos over USB-C and not Thunderbolt 3.

DVR Beta Update Created by Sling TV

By Leave a Comment

A little boy watching TV

Sling TV will soon launch their new update, namely the DVR Beta Cloud.

Sling TV, the internet television service will soon launch the new DVR Beta Cloud. When launching, it will select its Roku users starting with December. However, Sling TV has promised its fans the launch of other supported devices in next months. This innovative update will permit users to tape approximately a hundred hours of your favorite TV series, talk-shows or cartoons for your kids.

What is more, the DVR service is also able to register several shows at the same time. Isn’t that amazing? Roger Lynch, who is the chief executive of Sling TV, has argued that back in 2014 they succeeded in becoming the first live provider, which was categorized as over-the-top. The most significant aspect regarding their evolution is that they continued to develop, making available the best experience for their users.

Everybody was pleased to test and then use this revolutionary television service bound to suit to all members of your family. The new DVR Beta Cloud will be available only with Roku devices, in the beginning. These devices need to be subscribed to the single-stream service of Sling TV, namely Sling Orange. However, customers can only choose the multi-stream service known as Sling Blue.

Every user will be able to tape any TV shows, a full season of your favorite series, maybe some sequences from your favorite movie, or even sports games that you don’t want to miss or you want to remember. All of these will be possible by using the DVR controls to fast-forward, rewind or pause. Unfortunately, DVR will not function in this way for every channel. What is more, users still expect Sling TV to specify which channel is not supported by the functionality of the DVR Cloud.

This new feature, DVR Beta Cloud was created especially for the appropriate use of the customers, being equipped with many built-in updates meant to facilitate your experience. The DVR updates will be included in “My TV” Sling screen, thus allowing users to access the new DVR Cloud very easy. When they reach a maxed out storage, then Sling TV will immediately provide space for new recordings, automatically deleting old ones.

Those who already subscribed to Sling TV and also own a Roku and desire to be among the first persons to test the new DVR feature may ask for an invitation from Sling TV to take part in the beta service.

AT&T Inc. Introduces Streaming TV: Direct TV

By Leave a Comment

AT&T

AT&T Inc. brings to the public a new TV experience through streaming TV: DirecTV.

A new concept which will soon be developed by AT&T Inc., starting with this year. It is called streaming TV and the channel will be DirecTV.  As Bloomberg issued, this new TV platform is intended to be of primary use. AT&T’s CEO, Randall Stephenson argued that DirecTV is a project which will be developed until the end of this year. He claims that this will be an extraordinary product, which will not imply truck roll and will not be bound to using set-top boxes. When this channel is launched, it will work on two synchronic streams. Both streams will have a similar pricing of $40 up to $55 on monthly bases for the PlayStation service.

Media reveals other statements made by the CEO of AT&T Inc. He claims that this is planned to be an MVPD merchandise and its platform will count over 100 premium TV channels, which will have a different cost plan. He and his team have been working on this project from scratches. Last year was strictly dedicated to the development of the TV platform of DirecTV. The question that arises is how the clients will manage to subscribe to this service.

Randall Stephenson explains everything in a few simple steps. The customers need to download the useful app on their smart TV, tablet, or smartphone. Next, they will have to subscribe digitally, by selecting their platform’s content. In the end, they will be charged through an online billing service.  Stephenson argues that this could be registered as a good experience for their customers, being very low cost and using only online arrangements.

The AT&T Inc. have taken care to re-raise and use all of their costs for this new concept to be a pleasurable experience for their customers. Firstly, they obtained content rights, and the fact that they represent the most common TV provider in the US, they received the advantage of paying a privileged cost arrangement. To be able to bring DirecTV to the public, AT&T Inc. struggled to make some agreements with those who offered them content so that both parties could win.

AT&T Inc. needs to keep themselves appreciated by the consumers, so they closed a deal with the content providers in order for them not to promote a poor unfinished product, but rather a product that will keep them at the top on the market. What is more, this new product, DirecTV is incorporated in their wireless service.

Would you upgrade your TV platform by using DirecTV so that you and your family could test streaming TV?

Littlstar Brings Immersive 360 Degrees Videos to Apple TV

Apple TV

Littlstar brings immersive 360 degrees videos to Apple TV, giving that Siri Remote an even better use: scrolling around to move through the new settings.

Littlstar brings immersive 360 degrees videos to Apple TV, giving that Siri Remote an even better use: scrolling around to move through the new settings.

The Siri remote touchpad becomes a gateway into a new immersive reality. The free Littlstar app available for download in the app store has a generous offering of 360 degrees videos for everyone to enjoy. For instance, a helicopter tour of Iceland could prove an interesting immersing experience for the entire family.

The majority of the 360 degrees videos might look familiar. If you’re one to search for videos on Showtime, Discovery, National Geographic, PBS, Disney, Red Bull channels, Mountain Dew and such others, they may seem old. Nonetheless, think of the new perspective.

An extreme winter sports video is certainly experienced differently as a 360 degrees video. An immersive experience of an adrenaline rush snowboard high altitude jumps enjoyed from the comfort of your living room. Sounds pretty cool, right? Well, with the free Littlstar app and the Siri remote, Apple TV becomes the source for such fun.

As Littlstar brings immersive 360 degrees videos to Apple TV, the blog post announcing the big news and posted by chief product officer and founder Tony Mugavero reads:

“We wanted to give audiences the ability to consume this content from their living rooms and in a social environment”.

That is, just in time for holiday getarounds with friends and family. It’s a win for Apple TV and a win for Littlstar offering the free Littlstar app. It’s also a win for the emerging virtual reality scene. These 360 degrees videos could well be coupled with virtual reality headsets like Samsung’s Gear VR or Google’s Cardboard VR headset. It’s for this reason that Littlstar is making these videos available for mobile apps and desktop as well.

Plug in a virtual reality headset and be transported in a different reality for a while. Nonetheless, Apple TV is also a fit medium for viewing the 360 degrees videos. Other streaming boxes could encounter serious problems in rendering such content. Place your bets on Apple TV, Siri remote and the free Littlstar app and try the 360 degrees videos for yourself.

The Latest Apple TV

By Leave a Comment

The latest Apple TV is set to come out in two sizes and the earlier version will be at your disposal as well.

The Latest Apple TV

You can pre-order the Apple TV starting with this Monday and it is quite important that you know what your options are and what you are setting off to buy, if you are interested. The latest Apple TV is set to come out in two sizes and the earlier version will be at your disposal as well. So this is for the first time in Apple TV history when you have diversity and buy the thing that you want and not that which you are indirectly forced to buy.

The new Apple TVs are actually impressive. While the majority of buyers would have thought it a mistake to consider it super special in any way, but it looks like it is worth the buy. The new models have been granted access to Apple TV apps, a lot of favorites like Netflix or HBO Now, but there are extra goodies packed inside as well. The games are the number one phenomenon, especially if we consider the good-looking graphics and the fact that they can use a third-party controller. PlayStation much?

Now let’s talk about the new remote, which is truly a state of the art gadget. Let’s see: you’ve got a touchpad, a Siri button and you can pretty much tell Siri what you want her to do and she will do it for you. Note that Siri’s “extreme” commands can be a little too extreme. If you want a serious or a funny show to watch, she might not exactly find what you are looking for. She is a fan of Rotten Tomatoes, though, so it cannot go completely wrong now, could it? Could it?

Now if you are already considering buying an Apple TV, there are basically three choices that you can make: you can go for the old $70 Apple TV, the new 32 GB $150 model or the 64 GB $200 model. There are all good purchases and they can all fit your needs accordingly. It is just a matter of how much money you want to give or what services you are looking for.

The old TV is just that: a TV. You do have access to a decent amount of apps, HBO Now, Netflix, Showtime and Hulu included, but you won’t be able to play games and you won’t have the Siri button. Oh, and the quality of streaming is just the same. The latest Apple TV comes in with a whole new set of features, new apps and a lot more space, so if this is what makes you tickm you can definitely give it a try.

Twitch TV Abandons Flash for HTML5

By Leave a Comment

"Twitch TV Abandons Flash for HTML5"

Twitch has started testing other media players.

Twitch is joining the trend of abandoning Adobe Flash in favor of HTML5. The highly popular video streaming platform has announced that it has started making the transition towards adopting a more stable and secure video player.

The service has already implemented the first steps. Many videos on the website now make uses of controls designed for Java and HTML5. The videos themselves are still being run by the Flash media player but it seems this will not be the case for long.

These new controls have been mostly introduced to main channel pages. They will afterwards become gradually available to the entire user base. The transition is nowhere near finalized, but Twitch has clearly announced on its blog that the release of a full HTML5-based video player is something we should be expecting in the near future.

The change should come as no surprise. Though Flash remains one of the most well-known media players out there it has started to show its age. Adobe is regularly supporting its program with updates but apparently that is not enough.

The player can no longer boast the reliability it once had. Furthermore, Flash is notorious for its many security problems. It has been a favored target for hackers across the years, allowing them to plant malicious software on those who use it. Though these security issues are often dealt with quickly by Adobe, every new update of the software seems to create another vulnerability.

Twitch is certainly not the only large company that decided to abandon the player. Google’s Youube has started making the transition to HTML5 since 2010, with the video sharing platform finally phasing Flash out entirely last year.

Mozzilla, the parent company of the Firefox browser, has launched heavy criticism towards Adobe for not being able to prevent critical vulnerabilities in the recent versions of Flash. Mozzilla then went on to block all of these vulnerable versions on Firefox in order to protect its users from malware infections.

Despite promises from Adobe that these problems will be dealt unit, most large browsers seem to be fed up with Flash and are currently testing other options. It is understandable why many are urging Twitch to make the transition to HTML5 as soon as possible.

With so many sites moving away from Flash, it remains to be seen if Adobe will be able to make a comeback and restore the Internet’s trust in its product.
