Twitter finally accepts the “media company” label after several years of denying it. Twitter is currently focusing on engaging in traditional media company behaviors such as airing premium live video, broadcasting breaking news and hiring editors. At the moment, the careers page contains three open positions for the role of editor and a single open position for the role of associate producer for online video.
Those are eager to occupy one of the three available positions for editor bound to work on the new video product known as Periscope, they need to be experienced. If you want to fill in the producer position than the perfect candidate will be the one who knows how to guide a show on the air. Nowadays, every other media company ignores its label. But this is not the case of Twitter which has just embraced it.
The company is making efforts on a daily basis to figure out what is worth posting, what stands as news and what does not. After many years in which it lived with a title like social network app being available in Apple’s App Store, now it managed to find a new home, a new place being listed in the “News” category of the store.
Nevertheless, the company does not want to be used as a tool for programming developed by others. Twitter appears to be a business which is responsible for procuring, programming and promoting media. After introducing some experiments like Twitter Music back in 2 012, Twitter launched Moments in 2015. Moments represents a tab designed to underline the news of the day in some stored collections of related tweets.
Since the introduction of Moments, the team which worked on this feature has worked on making good decisions like any other media company does. The company learned how to use graphic content, but also to decide upon whether to use every viewpoint despite the risk of fake equivalency. Whenever the team from Moments made a mistake, they were responsible for their misjudgment, even removing some news after recognizing it may not be a suitable one.
The premium live video struggles that included an agreement to stream NFL games as well as programming designed only for Twitter, they were in the spotlight of this advancement.
